Chapter 63: A Restless Dinner
Chapter Sixty-Three: An Uneasy Dinner
Qing Tian waited on the stairs. She felt quite embarrassed when she saw Ji Xiangyu walking out and followed him towards the living room.
Grandfather Ji looked at the talented man and beautiful woman and said with a joyful smile, “Qing Tian, come, come, sit by Grandpa!”
The better Grandfather Ji treated Qing Tian, the more displeased Ji Weiwei felt towards Qing Tian.
Qing Tian happened to be seated with Ji Xiangyu on her left and Ji Weiwei on her right.
The family’s dining table wasn’t tens of meters long; it was a simple family dining table. It wasn’t crude but instead felt even more warm and inviting.
During the meal, Grandfather Ji kindly asked Qing Tian, “What do Qing Tian’s parents do?”
Qing Tian was drinking soup and almost choked. After she managed to swallow the soup with difficulty, she said awkwardly, “My mother passed away when I was very young. My father is in prison for committing a crime! My grandparents also passed away many years ago, and I’m currently staying with my uncle.”
As she said this, her heart ached fiercely. Grandfather Ji didn’t realize that his question had touched upon Qing Tian’s painful memories.
He then comforted her, “Our Qing Tian is truly strong. But it’s alright now. From now on, Grandfather Ji will be your grandfather!”
Qing Tian was stunned and looked at Grandfather Ji with tears welling up in her eyes.
Ji Weiwei sarcastically said, “She’s just a wild child nobody wants!”
Ji Xiangyu said fiercely, “Weiwei, don’t be rude!”
Ji Weiwei stuck out her tongue and remained silent.
Ji Xiangyu then considerately picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork rib and offered it to Qing Tian, saying gently, “Eat some, don’t be shy!”
Qing Tian’s eyes widened as she looked at Ji Xiangyu, blushing and nodding. She had never had a boy offer her food before.
And now, this man was the one she deeply loved. She felt almost overwhelmed with happiness.
Ji Weiwei, on the side, had an unpleasant expression. Qing Tian had become the focus of the meal, and Ji Weiwei was very unhappy. Why should a poor girl come to her house and act so presumptuously?
Ji Weiwei deliberately created difficulties, saying, “Not talking while eating is basic etiquette! You ill-mannered wild girl…”
Qing Tian immediately stopped talking and quietly lowered her head to eat.
Grandfather Ji, on the contrary, eased the situation by saying, “I don’t know about etiquette, but I know Qing Tian is a kind, intelligent, and beautiful girl!”
After speaking, he glared at Ji Weiwei, warning her not to speak carelessly.
Then, everyone continued to eat. Just as Qing Tian picked up her soup spoon to bring the soup to her lips, Ji Weiwei kicked Qing Tian hard under the table. Caught off guard, Qing Tian spilled the soup, which landed directly on her clothes.
Qing Tian was startled by Ji Weiwei’s small action. How could she be so excessive?
Given that she was at the Ji Family Home without an invitation, she couldn’t openly express her emotions.
Ji Weiwei pretended to be concerned and asked, “Are you alright?”
Qing Tian looked at Ji Weiwei’s feigned concern and felt a wave of nausea. She then apologized and said, “Excuse me, I need to step away for a moment!”
After Qing Tian spoke, she followed a servant to the restroom. Ji Weiwei also followed, saying, “I’ll accompany you…”
Qing Tian was momentarily taken aback but didn’t refuse and walked on.
As soon as they entered the restroom, Ji Weiwei dismissed the servant, saying, “Xiao Wu, you can go down now. I’ll be fine here!”
The servant nodded respectfully and walked away with a look of doubt.
Ji Weiwei closed the restroom door, and Qing Tian asked coldly, “What do you want?”
Ji Weiwei crossed her arms and said dismissively, “That’s a question I should be asking you! What is your purpose in repeatedly approaching our family?”
Qing Tian’s expression remained cold as she said, “I was only invited here by Grandfather. Do you think I’m here to approach Ji Xiangyu? Why would I go to such lengths!”
Ji Weiwei walked closer to Qing Tian condescendingly and laughed, “Grandfather, haha… How ridiculous. You believe everything Grandfather says? Don’t take it too seriously. Don’t think that just because Grandfather says nice things to you, you’ve truly become a sparrow flying onto a phoenix’s perch.”
Qing Tian had already anticipated Ji Weiwei’s harsh words. “I don’t want to say anything more to you. It’s not like you think!”
Ji Weiwei’s tone intensified, “Stop pretending. Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you’ve won Grandfather’s favor? Qing Tian, don’t blame me for not warning you. If you come to our house again, I will make you look utterly ridiculous in public!”
Qing Tian remained silent, only looking at Ji Weiwei with cold eyes.
Ji Weiwei threw out one last sentence, “Don’t think everyone takes you seriously. Go take a good look in the mirror! Hmph…”
After speaking, Ji Weiwei slammed the door and left.
Qing Tian looked speechlessly at her reflection in the mirror, her mood tinged with a hint of sadness due to Ji Weiwei’s words.
When she rejoined the table, Ji Xiangyu asked with concern, “Qing Tian, are you alright?”
Qing Tian smiled faintly and nodded.
Grandfather Ji then spoke, “Nanny, please find some clothes for Qing Tian to change into. The soup stained her clothes, so let’s get them washed!”
This was also said to Qing Tian. Grandfather Ji’s thoughtfulness warmed Qing Tian’s heart, sweeping away the earlier gloom.
Ji Weiwei, while eating, had a sly smile spreading across her lips: Qing Tian’s show is about to begin!
