Chapter 56: Liang Chaosu Seeks A Son
Liang Chaosu took a deep breath, suppressing the explosive impulses that were boiling within him. He put her down, touched her cheek, and left without looking back.
Listening to the sound of his footsteps recede, Lian Cheng slumped down as if being drained of strength, breathing heavily.
On the other side, the Liang family.
Liang Chaosu, carrying a chill of suppressed gloom, strode into the living room.
As soon as Father Liang saw him, he got up and went upstairs, saying, “To the study.”
It wasn’t time for breakfast yet, and Mother Liang hadn’t woken up. Only a few servants were cleaning in the corridor. Liang Chaosu didn’t go upstairs immediately, but turned to the kitchen, where Aunt Wang was holding a morning meeting for two new cooks.
She said, “—The Eldest Young Lady has gone abroad, and Miss Lian Cheng is no longer— no longer part of the Liang family. Today’s breakfast only needs to be prepared for Mister, Madam, and the Eldest Young Master.”
Facing the cooks at the door, she suddenly bowed and greeted, “Eldest Young Master.”
She then gestured to Aunt Wang.
Liang Chaosu nodded indifferently, his tone softening slightly towards Aunt Wang, “I won’t be living at home recently. I can’t get used to outside food. Please take care of my needs for a while.”
As the employer, Aunt Wang didn’t dare to refuse directly and hesitated tactfully, “But Madam…”
“I’ll speak to her.”
After the man left, the two new cooks, as if by agreement, let out a sigh of relief. “As expected of Sister Wang. Young Zhang said before that the Eldest Young Master was never cordial with anyone, only you and the butler were different.”
Aunt Wang’s smile was stiff. The butler was the butler, but how was she, who managed the kitchen, any different?
The Liang family truly treated her differently. The person she had watched grow up since childhood had been ruthlessly driven away.
………………
A floor lamp was on in the study, and Father Liang stood in front of the bookshelf, holding a book.
After Liang Chaosu entered, he remained silent and sat on the single sofa near the bookshelf.
“What happened at the hunting grounds?” Father Liang asked without looking up, turning a page. “Feifei told me that you are not only the behind-the-scenes boss but also famous at the hunting grounds. Everyone knows you have accurate shooting skills, are strong, and keep a group of mercenaries to simulate battlefield confrontations with you.”
Liang Chaosu leaned back in his chair. “The work pressure is high, it’s a way to release emotions.”
Father Liang slammed the book shut and put it back on the shelf. “That excuse might satisfy your mother, but don’t try to fob me off with it.”
“Father, do you want me to give a detailed report on my personal stress management?”
Father Liang sat opposite him, scrutinizing him intently. “After I returned, your mother cried. Her son, whom she raised herself, has unconsciously built a wall, resisting her closeness, guarding against her concern, leaving only a facade of false respect.”
“A son avoids his mother as he grows.” Liang Chaosu remained calm. “I’m almost thirty. Do you expect me to cling to my mother’s embrace and act like a child?”
Father Liang narrowed his eyes.
Outside, everyone envied him for having a worthy successor, a son who would lead the Liang family to its peak. Internally, however, it was a family out of control. The eaglets in the nest had fully grown wings and could no longer be contained.
He took a step back. “Your mother was hurt by your forceful attitude regarding Lian Cheng’s marriage. Even for the sake of the Liang family, you should pay more attention in the future.”
Liang Chaosu crossed his legs, resting his hand on his thigh. “Lian Cheng is no longer a member of the Liang family. Mother doesn’t need to worry about her marriage anymore.”
“I do not agree with this matter.” Father Liang became forceful again. “After raising her for over twenty years, you suddenly drive her away under the pretense of strongly supporting the Gu family. How will outsiders view the Liang family? What will they speculate?”
Liang Chaosu half-closed his eyes. “It’s not about outsiders. Mother is already overthinking. I’m driving her away for her peace of mind.”
“Then what about the hundred million you invested in Bo Yizhang?”
The knife was finally revealed, and Liang Chaosu’s expression soured.
“And you hired Mayo’s neurology team for Bo Yizhang.” Father Liang escalated, sealing his conclusion. “All to cure Lian Cheng’s infertility.”
After a long pause, no one in the study spoke.
Their eyes met. As Father Liang’s expression grew increasingly grave, Liang Chaosu suddenly smiled.
When the smile faded, he said, “Father is right. I do urgently wish to cure her. And regarding her marriage, I do not wish for anyone to interfere.”
Outside the door, Mother Liang covered her mouth, her other hand clutching the doorknob, her body almost frozen.
Inside the room, Father Liang asked, “Then is your mother overthinking?”
“What does Father think?” Liang Chaosu countered. “Does Father believe I would engage in incest with Lian Cheng, commit immoral acts, and then seek treatment for her infertility, intending to have my child?”
Father Liang was stunned.
In truth, Father Liang had believed Mother Liang’s tearful account to a certain extent.
But after his son’s counter-question, he suddenly sobered up. No matter how absurd or dissolute Liang Chaosu was, he wouldn’t be confused about his offspring and bloodline.
He wouldn’t do something that brought only harm and no benefit.
“Your mother is worried because she cares. I will comfort her. As for Lian Cheng, she cannot disappear at this juncture. I will send people to find her. Since none of you like her, once she’s found, I’ll arrange for her to marry far away. There’s no need to ruin family harmony for her.”
After Father Liang finished speaking, he went out first, put his arm around Mother Liang, and led her downstairs, comforting her in a low voice.
Breakfast was already laid on the dining table. Liang Chaosu sat down a step behind.
Mother Liang noticed that he hadn’t touched the corn sandwich on his plate, only drinking a cup of coffee and a few slices of cured meat. “Chaosu, why aren’t you eating the main course?”
Liang Chaosu replied, “I don’t like corn.”
Mother Liang was astonished. “When did your tastes change?”
“Yesterday.”
The suddenness, coupled with the specific time, made Mother Liang find it strange.
However, Father Liang had just told her she was overthinking due to worry, so she didn’t want to be overly sensitive. She instructed Aunt Wang to clear away Liang Chaosu’s Western breakfast and replace it with the Chinese breakfast they were having.
………………
Xiao Da felt like he was doomed.
If he didn’t let Lian Cheng go out, he would have to buy her intimate personal items, like sanitary pads, which were highly dangerous and untouchable.
If he let Lian Cheng go out, he would be violating the master’s orders. If anything went wrong on the way, he would suffer greatly, if not worse.
“Why don’t you order a delivery service on your phone?”
Lian Cheng looked troubled.
Xiao Da’s gaze fell on the clothes she was still wearing. “Aren’t you going to change?”
“I have.”
Xiao Da was surprised. “Then don’t you need to change your clothes?”
Lian Cheng was also surprised. “I’m not supposed to touch things here, am I?”
Xiao Da had been by Liang Chaosu’s side for four years. From his concise and never-repeated orders, he had perfectly understood their meaning. Naturally, he was a master of reading comprehension and a person who never made communication errors.
“This apartment was given to you by Mr. Liang.” Xiao Da regretted his previous vagueness. “Your clothes and daily necessities have already been prepared in the master bedroom.”
Lian Cheng felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
Seeing her expression, Xiao Da changed his words and presented concrete evidence. “The property deed is in the study of the master bedroom. If you don’t believe me, you can go and see for yourself.”
Lian Cheng dreamily closed the door and checked the property deed, then toured the master bedroom.
The curtains, bedding, and carpet were all designed to resemble the apartment they had lived together in up north for four years, without affecting the overall visual design.
When she came out again, she stood by the corner of the living room carpet, looking at the auspicious intertwined floral patterns and the lilies of the valley on the balcony. She, who had envisioned herself conquering Liang Chaosu, had somehow ended up as the prize.
Lian Cheng was chilled to the bone.
What exactly did Liang Chaosu want?
