Chapter 57: Sea Snake
That sea snake is extremely venomous; a single bite can be fatal.
For safety, Yun Chendong brought Yun Jiao along.
“Big brother, sea urchins, so many.”
Yun Chendong didn’t stand on ceremony and picked up the sea urchins. There were indeed quite a few, over twenty.
Yun Jiao had good eyesight and could always see things Yun Chendong missed, and she could see very far.
“There are scallops over there.”
She pointed to a spot with her little finger, and Yun Chendong would look there.
They never came back empty-handed!
Yun Chendong couldn’t help but look at his younger sister a few more times. With such eyesight, if she joined the army, she’d be a sniper.
“Moon shells.”
“Shrimp.”
“A fish, dead.”
She carried the dead fish over to the sea eagle and dropped it: “An extra meal for you.”
Sea Eagle: I can’t eat any more.
But with food right in front of it, maybe it could still manage if it squeezed?
After hesitating for two seconds, it pecked twice and then completely tossed the dead fish aside, preening its feathers and refusing to eat.
This thing wasn’t as delicious as fresh food.
Yun Jiao mumbled: “Wasting food.”
Then she continued her treasure hunt.
There were many things around the kelp. When the tide receded, these things were probably held back by the kelp and couldn’t go out to sea with it.
Many fish and shrimp had died, and some were a bit smelly, not a very pleasant scent.
But to find things, Yun Linhai and the others could endure it.
It was much richer than tide pooling at Bailong Village’s beach.
They picked up quite a few cat’s eye snails, crabs, and octopuses.
The sea eagle, having tidied its feathers, flapped and glided to Yun Jiao’s side, standing not far away and tilting its head to watch their movements.
It was a curious baby sea eagle.
And also a silly baby.
It imitated Yun Chendong and the others by using its claws to lift a piece of kelp.
Looking at the wriggling thing underneath, the sea eagle let out a cry, then pecked downwards with its beak, immediately making a hole in the creature’s head.
Yun Jiao looked over, her soft voice tinged with excitement.
“Wow, a sea snake!”
Yun Chendong also looked over: !!!
Fortunately, they hadn’t gone that way!
They had just narrowly missed each other.
“Is it dead?”
The sea snake’s head had a large hole pecked in it. Although it wasn’t dead and was still writhing, its danger level wasn’t as high.
Yun Chendong picked up the sea snake with the fire tongs, and for greater safety, he directly used scissors to cut off its head.
The sea snake’s body was placed in the bucket.
Yun Jiao happily asked: “Big brother, are we taking this back as a snack?”
When she was in the sea before, she used to eat sea snakes as snacks.
Yun Chendong: …
Who eats sea snakes as snacks.
Yun Chendong shook his head: “No, although sea snakes are venomous, they are very nourishing and used for medicinal wine. It can expel wind and dampness, promote blood circulation, and relieve pain, and can also alleviate rheumatism. People like us who live by the sea often have some symptoms of rheumatism and gout. The medicinal wine made from this sea snake is good for the body.”
Yun Jiao understood.
“Then let’s catch a few more.”
She knew about rheumatism; Grandma and Grandpa often had sore legs because of it.
She grabbed the sea eagle’s wing and walked forward.
“Let’s go, we’ll keep looking for sea snakes.”
Sea Eagle: ???
Yun Chendong quickly hugged her: “Don’t take risks, this thing is extremely venomous, don’t get bitten!”
Yun Jiao said with supreme confidence: “I’m not afraid.”
You’re not afraid, but I am!
Yun Chendong watched this brave little glutinous rice ball more closely, afraid she would really go looking for sea snakes.
But sometimes, even if you don’t want to find something, it just appears.
Yun Chendong lifted a piece of kelp, and there were actually three sea snakes underneath.
He quickly hugged Yun Jiao and retreated.
These uninjured sea snakes were agile, he didn’t dare to try and catch them.
Yun Jiao was being held, unable to go and catch the snakes, so she could only shout to the sea eagle not far away: “Big bird, come quickly, peck them!”
“Hurry, hurry, they’re going to escape.”
The sea eagle cried out and rushed over. The two little ones were making a fuss, and Yun Chendong just watched helplessly as the sea eagle obediently went to peck at the three sea snakes.
He opened his mouth as if to speak but stopped. He wanted to say something but couldn’t.
“It, it can actually understand words?”
Yun Chendong’s voice was very low, and Yun Jiao didn’t hear him.
Seeing the three sea snakes being pecked and brought over, Yun Jiao stroked the sea eagle’s head.
“Good job, an extra meal for you!”
Yun Chendong came back to his senses. Although his mood was complicated, he nimbly threw all three snakes into the bucket.
Seeing that time was almost up, they went back to dig out the mussel meat.
The three adults had worked hard to dig out quite a lot.
Yun Jiao played with the sea eagle on the side.
She would find a small fish or shrimp and throw it into the sea eagle’s mouth.
It also followed Yun Jiao, opening its beak wide to catch it.
“Our Jiaojiao has a bit of something extraordinary about her.”
She was already extraordinary when she came to the Yun family, not to mention her great luck. She could even communicate with sea turtles and orcas, and now she could even command sea eagles.
But as her family, all they could do was protect her.
Having seen many strange things happen to Yun Jiao, they had now learned to remain calm.
Yun Linhe: “I took a look around. Besides this kelp patch, there’s nothing else on this island.”
“Let’s dig out some more mussel meat and then go fishing. This island isn’t big, and having this much harvest is already a blessing from Mazu.”
“I’m hungry.”
Yun Jiao fed the sea eagle and got hungry herself.
She immediately ran back.
The sea eagle trotted happily behind her, like a large ground chicken.
The sea eagle was a bird of prey in the sky but a silly bird on the ground, its walking posture particularly comical.
“Can this be eaten raw?”
She squatted in front of the mussel meat and asked earnestly.
Seeing her like this, Yun Linhai and the others knew what the little girl was planning.
“Eat what? Food tastes best when cooked, and this needs to be washed first.”
Yun Jiao said “oh” with disappointment.
“Shall I open a sea urchin for you?”
Yun Jiao nodded like a pecking chick and obediently leaned against her big brother.
Big brother is really nice.
Yun Chendong had slightly rough skin and a sturdy appearance. When he was silent, he looked very serious but gave a sense of reliability.
Yun Jiao liked being held by her big brother because he held her very steadily.
When Fifth Brother held her, she felt like she could fall at any moment.
Yun Chendong’s hands were nimble, and he quickly opened a sea urchin for her.
Yun Linhe stood up and stretched: “This is enough. Let’s go get something to eat too.”
They still had dried rations, which were on the boat.
They naturally had to go back.
After gathering and tidying everything up and preparing to leave, the sea eagle spread its wings and flew away.
Yun Jiao finished her sea urchin and looked up, but didn’t pay it any mind.
Yun Linhai and the others were worried that Yun Jiao would be sad if the sea eagle flew away, but they had clearly worried for nothing.
“Does Jiaojiao still want to catch sea centipedes?”
Yun Jiao nodded: “Yes!”
There were many sea centipedes before that had run away because she was too timid.
With large bags and small bags, they couldn’t carry everything in one trip.
Yun Jiao was taken to catch sea centipedes herself, while Yun Chendong heated up the food, and the two heads of the family repeatedly carried all the items to the boat.
