Chapter 7: It Hurts, Daddy Hurts
Xie Chong looked at him coldly.
He had taken things from the bandits by his own ability, did he still have to return them?
That was absolutely impossible!
“Cough, of course, I’m not asking the General to send me for nothing. As soon as I arrive at An Sui Prefecture, I’ll have my father send ten thousand taels of silver as a thank you fee!”
Xie Chong: “Deal!”
He agreed without any delay, and even had the military advisor draw up an IOU.
The young master honestly signed his name.
Holding the IOU, Xie Chong finally left with satisfaction.
The young master finally breathed a sigh of relief. Following this group made him feel very safe; at least he wouldn’t be robbed by bandits anymore.
When Qin Wanwan woke up, the army was ready to set off, and she was back on her father’s horse.
She yawned and leaned into her daddy’s embrace, lost in thought.
The newly activated cub’s head was blank, and she looked dull and not very smart.
By the time she was fully awake, they had already traveled a considerable distance.
“Daddy, I want to wash my face and brush my teeth.”
She still liked to be clean.
Xie Chong picked her up: “I’ll have someone take you.”
Qin Wanwan hugged his arm and refused to let go.
“No, Daddy, wash Wanwan’s face.”
Xie Chong: “How many times have I told you I’m not your daddy.”
He hadn’t even held a woman’s hand, how could he have such a big child.
Qin Wanwan’s ability to pester was unbearable for ordinary people. She acted spoiled, staring at him with her teary, fried egg-like eyes. Her beautiful little face looked so wronged that one could give her their life!
Qin Wanwan was a little drama queen. After Xie Chong agreed, she immediately changed her expression.
From crying to giggling took only one second.
The marching team happened to pass by a river, and Xie Chong took the child away from the team.
Finding a place where the water wasn’t deep, Xie Chong handed her a willow branch to brush her teeth.
Conditions were like this now.
Qin Wanwan bit the willow branch, her beautiful little face wrinkled.
Keke landed on her shoulder and said sympathetically, “It’s too tough, cub, following your daddy is too tough.”
After being exposed last night, Keke no longer hid anything.
Xie Chong glanced at it: “Since it’s so tough, take her and leave.”
Keke stopped talking.
“I’m not leaving.”
Qin Wanwan’s tender voice was soft and slow.
“Wherever Daddy goes, Wanwan goes.”
Xie Chong said nothing, only wrung out the wet handkerchief and then applied it to her face to wash it.
“Mmm…”
Qin Wanwan struggled: “It hurts, Daddy, it hurts.”
Xie Chong paused and lightened his grip.
“It hurts.”
Xie Chong: ………
This was how he usually washed his face; there was nothing wrong with it.
When the handkerchief was removed, Qin Wanwan’s fair and tender skin was rubbed red.
Her hair in front was all messy and sticking up.
She squatted on the ground and washed her nose, her eyes teary.
This time it was from pain.
Keke: “Do you even know how to wash a face? Do you know how to wash a face? The cub is a child, a child, do you understand? You have so much strength, are you grooming a pig? Do you have any semblance of a father… Ah!”
Xie Chong expressionlessly threw the talkative parrot out.
Qin Wanwan patted her little face with her small hands, her big eyes watery and looking at him with a hint of condemnation.
Xie Chong felt a little guilty.
“Cough… This is how I wash my face.”
Nothing wrong with it.
Qin Wanwan puffed out her cheeks, looking very much like a plump little goldfish.
“Daddy, you need to be gentler, and wash it again for me.”
The cub was teaching her daddy how to parent on the spot.
Xie Chong had great strength. He was a rough fellow, and usually just roughly rubbed his face when washing. When brushing his teeth, he could chew an entire willow branch, spitting it out after a few chomps.
He had no experience whatsoever in washing a child’s face.
Under Qin Wanwan’s guidance, Xie Chong finally washed the little one’s face with appropriate force.
But her hair was messy.
Qin Wanwan had bangs, and her once neat bangs covered her forehead, fluffy and soft, looking very obedient.
But now, her bangs were flying everywhere.
Xie Chong didn’t bring a comb, so he didn’t comb her hair. He picked up the little one with one hand and sat her in his arm as he walked back.
After returning to the team, he directly handed the task of combing her hair to Shen Shu.
He had combed it quite well yesterday.
Most men of this era knew how to comb hair, but it was usually a high ponytail.
Only the young masters from wealthy families would have servants comb their hair. They, the poor, would comb it themselves, of course.
But they only knew that one style.
Shen Shu had a sister at home, and he learned how to comb a girl’s hair while taking care of her. Combing Qin Wanwan’s hair was also no problem.
When the sun was strong, everyone was a bit tired from walking. Like yesterday, they found a shady spot to rest and have lunch.
Qin Wanwan hugged Keke and no longer followed her daddy. Instead, she ran to the kitchen staff uncle.
The kitchen staff all liked this soft little milk bun. Who could refuse a pretty child calling them uncle in a milky voice?
“Here, this baozi is ready. Wanwan, you eat it first. It’s a bit hot, so blow on it.”
By now, the entire marching troop basically knew about Qin Wanwan’s existence.
Their general was truly lucky to have found such a beautiful daughter for free.
“Thank you, uncle.”
Holding a baozi almost as big as her face with her two clean, chubby hands, Qin Wanwan went to find her daddy.
She couldn’t finish this big baozi.
Daddy was easy to find, and with Keke’s help, she quickly determined the direction and ran over happily.
At this moment, Xie Chong was dealing with the women he had rescued from the bandits earlier.
Several women still wanted to commit suicide after waking up.
After being rescued, they covered their faces and cried.
When Qin Wanwan arrived, those women were crying intensely.
“Why are you stopping me? I have no home anymore, my chastity is gone, I can’t go back home, what’s the point of me being alive.”
They had homes, but the fate of girls abducted by bandits upon their return was obvious even without thinking.
They had homes, but could not return.
The eyes of several girls held only numbness and despair, with no trace of joy at being rescued.
Qin Wanwan quietly came to her daddy’s side, holding the slightly nibbled baozi. Her big eyes looked at the crying people with bewilderment.
What’s wrong? Why are they crying so fiercely?
The little one hesitated for two seconds, then broke off a piece of the baozi and offered it with her small hand to the woman closest to her.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry. If you eat until you’re full, you won’t cry anymore.”
The little girl’s tender voice was pure and clean, and she comforted them in a milky voice.
The woman looked up at her.
“Here, eat this, it’s very delicious.”
Qin Wanwan held it up to her mouth.
The woman’s eyes were blank and she didn’t move.
Qin Wanwan: “Big sister, please eat it quickly, and you won’t feel uncomfortable after eating.”
Although she didn’t know why they were uncomfortable.
The woman smiled sadly and finally ate the baozi placed at her lips.
Qin Wanwan took the remaining baozi and went to feed the others.
She diligently shuttled between them, her soft, soothing voice occasionally heard.
This indeed made the group of women cry less sadly.
