Chapter 25: You Can Understand Cat Speech?
Jiang Yuan looked back and saw a man in his fifties or sixties, wearing a black jacket and a dark blue fisherman’s hat on his head.
The cow cat exclaimed, “I’ve been digging here for the past two days, and this human always drives me away!”
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan’s gaze flickered slightly.
She retracted her gaze, leaned down, held the cow cat in her arms, and left in silence.
The man kept staring at Jiang Yuan’s back view until he couldn’t see her anymore before turning around.
He looked at the spot where the cow cat had been digging, and his gaze fell upon the half-exposed finger, his expression suddenly changed, and a look of terror appeared.
Jiang Yuan, holding the cow cat, walked to a crowded area in the park, and the system’s voice just sounded.
【System 009: Triggered new mission: Help Xixi. Mission reward: Elephant Dictionary. Mission failure: Ten thousand needles piercing the heart. 】
Jiang Yuan lowered her eyes, looked at the kitten in her arms, and asked softly, “What’s your name?”
The cow cat obediently replied, “My name is Xixi.”
“Did you see who buried your owner in the soil?”
“I did, but I don’t know who he was.”
“Wasn’t it that person just now?”
“No.”
Jiang Yuan frowned, “Then what happened before he buried your owner in the soil?”
Xixi blinked its cat eyes and thought hard, “That day, my owner took me out and met that person. My owner told him that he would buy a big house to live in after receiving the bonus.”
“Bonus?” Jiang Yuan asked, confused, “What bonus?”
Xixi: “My owner bought a piece of paper outside and said he won, and could receive a lot of bonus money.”
Jiang Yuan: “Lottery ticket?”
Xixi: “That’s right, that’s right! My owner and they were talking about lottery tickets!”
Jiang Yuan could already guess the general situation.
Xixi’s owner won the lottery, and someone, seeing the money, became greedy and killed him.
Seeing that she didn’t speak, Xixi carefully said, “Missy, that human should be gone already. Shall we go dig again? I’m afraid my owner will be bored staying in the soil.”
“You don’t know, my owner is very afraid of being bored. He always asks me to play with him.”
“I haven’t played with him for several days, he must be very bored!”
Jiang Yuan was stunned for a few seconds, raised her hand, and rubbed its head, “Silly Xixi.”
Xixi tilted its little head in confusion, “Why do you call me silly?”
“I’ll tell you after I report to the police.” Jiang Yuan took out her phone and made a call.
She held Xixi and sat on the gazebo, unsure how to tell it such a cruel truth.
Her owner would never be bored again.
Seeing that Jiang Yuan wasn’t in a hurry at all, Xixi felt a little angry.
It jumped down from her arms, its round cat eyes staring at her, “Missy, you don’t want to help save my owner, do you?”
“No.” Jiang Yuan explained gently, “The two of us can’t save your owner.”
Xixi was bewildered, “Why? Isn’t it enough to just dig my owner out of the soil?”
Jiang Yuan sighed, “Xixi, even if we dig your owner out, he won’t be able to accompany you anymore.”
The small cat face was full of confusion, “Why?”
Jiang Yuan looked up at the sky, her tone heavy, “He has already gone to heaven.”
“Heaven…” Xixi murmured, and its emotions suddenly became low, “My owner is dead, right?”
Jiang Yuan remained silent.
The phone’s ringtone suddenly sounded.
She answered the phone; it was the police calling.
They had already arrived at the entrance of Blue Bay Park.
Jiang Yuan looked at Xixi. It lowered its head, its ears plastered back, quiet and looking lonely and sad.
“The police are here, they will rescue your owner from the soil.”
After Jiang Yuan finished speaking, Xixi didn’t react.
She let out a breath, got up, and walked towards the park entrance.
Jiang Yuan saw a familiar figure among the responding officers.
“Miss Jiang?” Si Heng was somewhat surprised, then he thought for a moment and asked with a focused gaze, “Was it you who reported it?”
Jiang Yuan nodded, “Yes.”
The third case.
Si Heng thought to himself.
Jiang Yuan led the responding officers. As they walked, she discovered Xixi.
“You must be lying to me!” Xixi said aggrievedly, “My owner definitely wouldn’t die!”
With others around, it was inconvenient for Jiang Yuan to talk to Xixi. She just stopped walking, held it in her arms, and stroked its back to comfort it.
“Is this your cat?” Si Heng asked.
Jiang Yuan shook her head, “I just met it. It was this cat that led me to discover the corpse.”
Si Heng raised an eyebrow imperceptibly.
The arrival of the police attracted the attention and following of many people, including the man who had driven away the cow cat.
In the easternmost corner of the park, Si Heng’s group found the small section of human finger exposed from the soil as soon as they arrived.
His expression was solemn, and he ordered his subordinates to record the scene and begin digging.
“This exposed finger was dug out by the cat,” Jiang Yuan said softly, standing beside Si Heng.
Si Heng’s gaze fell on Xixi.
How would a cat know there was a person buried in the soil?
And how did it lead Jiang Yuan to find it?
“Boss!” a police officer came to Si Heng, “The corpse has been dug out.”
**
Jiang Yuan, holding Xixi, went with Si Heng and his group to the police station to give a record.
As they were leaving, Si Heng called out to her at the police station entrance.
“Miss Jiang.”
Jiang Yuan stopped, turned back, and looked at the man with upright demeanor, “Captain Si, is there anything else?”
“Is it a coincidence?” Si Heng strode towards her, his expression complicated.
Jiang Yuan met his gaze and said lightly, “What do you want to say?”
Si Heng glanced at the cow cat in her arms, “Besides understanding dogs, can you also understand cats?”
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and she suddenly didn’t know how to answer.
He had actually guessed it?
No.
When she picked up Zhan Zhan and Momo that day, she encountered Si Heng buying fruit. Could it be that he also saw her eating coconut chicken afterward?
Jiang Yuan pressed her lips together and asked, “Were you at Hail City that day too?”
Si Heng explained, “Someone posted a video online, and I happened to see it.”
Jiang Yuan: “…”
Why didn’t I see it myself?
“Miss Jiang, you still haven’t answered my question.” Si Heng said gently, “I’m not trying to pry into your privacy, but this is very important to us.”
Jiang Yuan hesitated for a moment internally, then slowly nodded.
Si Heng looked at her, his dark eyes twinkling like brilliant stars in the night sky.
The next day, Jiang Yuan was invited to the police station again.
This time, she wasn’t going to the interrogation room, but to the internal office of the Criminal Investigation Team.
“Miss Jiang.” Si Heng placed a steaming cup of coffee beside Jiang Yuan, “The weather is a bit cold, have some hot coffee to warm yourself up.”
Jiang Yuan: “…”
She glanced at the steaming coffee, then her gaze returned to the man, “Captain Si, please just say what you have to say.”
A faint smile curved the corner of Si Heng’s lips, and he stopped beating around the bush.
“The investigation results from yesterday are out. The deceased’s name is Zou Yueming, 32 years old, parents deceased, unmarried, with only one cat. It should be the cat you were holding yesterday.”
