Chapter 303: A Room Full Of Cat Corpses
“You see, I even confirmed with him if he was single,” Gu Yiyi cried, her eye makeup smudged. “I didn’t expect it to be like this…”
Si Heng glanced at her screen and returned to his seat.
Xiao Xu printed out the record of the interrogation and handed it to Gu Yiyi. “The entire process of this inquiry was audio and video recorded… Please review the contents of the record and sign it after confirming it is correct.”
Gu Yiyi wiped away her tears, trying hard to remain calm. She carefully read through the record and nodded, saying, “I confirm that everything I said is the truth, not a single word is false.”
Xiao Xu reminded her, “Then please sign.”
“Okay.” Gu Yiyi quickly signed her name.
As she was leaving the interrogation room, she suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
She hesitated for a few seconds and then called out, “Hello…”
Jiang Yuan paused slightly and turned her head. “Hello, Yiyi.”
“It really is you.” Gu Yiyi said in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
Jiang Yuan smiled faintly. “It’s quite a coincidence.”
Gu Yiyi thought of the message she had sent yesterday and frowned. “That ‘wise choice’ you mentioned last night… Do you know something?”
“Yes.” Jiang Yuan nodded.
Gu Yiyi bit her lip, wanting to say more, but then saw the female police officer who had just taken her statement suddenly walk over to Jiang Yuan.
“The boss is going to interrogate He Linwen, are you going?” Xiao Xu asked.
“Yes.” Jiang Yuan looked at Gu Yiyi and said softly, “Hurry back.”
Gu Yiyi stared blankly at her retreating figure.
Interrogation room.
He Linwen looked weary. Seeing someone enter, he asked, “When can I leave?”
“You can’t leave,” Si Heng said as he sat down, his tone indifferent. “Clearly explain your motive for murder and the process of the killing.”
“I didn’t kill anyone!” He Linwen gritted his teeth. “How many times do I have to say it? I didn’t kill anyone!”
Si Heng’s gaze indifferently examined him. “You were the one pestering her after the breakup, so why are you lying?”
He Linwen’s eyes flickered upon hearing this, but he insisted, “I’m not lying.”
“Weren’t you the one kneeling in front of Fang Mengyun begging her not to break up, even kowtowing to her?” Si Heng asked sarcastically.
A look of astonishment flashed in He Linwen’s eyes.
How could this be…
I clearly dismantled the surveillance in the living room and destroyed Fang Mengyun’s phone. How do they know about these things?
“Why did you suddenly agree to the breakup when Fang Mengyun said she was going to tell both parents about it?”
“Did you start planning to murder Fang Mengyun at this point?”
Si Heng posed two questions consecutively.
He Linwen clenched his fists, his expression gloomy.
A moment later, he roared furiously, “I didn’t kill anyone! If you have the guts, show me the evidence!”
He Linwen was confident that these people wouldn’t be able to find any evidence.
“It seems you haven’t thought it through yet,” Si Heng said, then got up and left the interrogation room.
The group entered the conference room.
Meng Xiaokai frowned irritably. “He Linwen is really tough to crack.”
“I remember Qiaoqiao mentioning that He Linwen was worried about He Shuna not being able to accept his breakup with Fang Mengyun, and he asked Fang Mengyun to keep it a secret. Should we ask He Shuna to come over?” He Lewei suggested.
Xiao Xu immediately echoed, “I think that’s a good idea.”
Si Heng looked at He Lewei and said lightly, “Contact He Shuna.”
“Understood.” He Lewei immediately agreed and got up to leave the conference room.
Si Heng’s gaze swept across the room and he saw Jiang Yuan with her lips pursed, looking preoccupied.
“Jiang Yuan, what’s wrong?” he asked gently.
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan turned her head to meet the man’s slightly concerned gaze and slowly said, “I was thinking about how Kang Jiaoli mentioned last night that He Linwen adopted stray cats and even set up a room in his house specifically for them.”
Si Heng: “You want to communicate with the stray cats?”
“Yes.” Jiang Yuan nodded. “Maybe they saw He Linwen committing the crime?”
“Okay.” Si Heng’s eyes looked serious. “I’ll apply for it.”
He Lewei returned to the conference room and frowned. “He Shuna said she’s not feeling well and can’t come to the police station.”
“Then we’ll go to her house to find her,” Xiao Xu said.
He Lewei: “I told her that, and she said she couldn’t.”
“Did you tell her her son is suspected of murder?” Meng Xiaokai asked.
He Lewei: “I did, but she didn’t react much. She just said her son couldn’t possibly have killed anyone and that we had made a mistake, then hung up. I called again later, but she wouldn’t answer.”
“Then try calling from a different phone number.” Meng Xiaokai took out his mobile phone. “What’s her number?”
After the call was dialed, no one answered.
Xiao Xu pouted. “She’s not answering anyone’s calls now. What kind of person is she, not even worried that her son might be a murderer?”
At 2 PM, Si Heng’s search warrant application was approved, and the group set off for He Linwen’s home.
He lived in an urban village, renting a three-bedroom, one-living room apartment.
Meng Xiaokai contacted the landlord to open the door, but discovered that He Linwen had changed the door lock, so they contacted a locksmith.
The door finally opened, and an indescribable smell assaulted their nostrils.
“What’s that smell? It’s so unpleasant,” Xiao Xu said, quickly taking out masks and distributing them to everyone.
“There’s a rotten, fishy smell,” Meng Xiaokai said, his brow furrowed.
Jiang Yuan looked around the living room but didn’t see any stray cats.
Of the three rooms, two doors were open: one was a bedroom, and the other was a computer room.
He Lewei stopped in front of the closed door and said solemnly, “The foul smell seems to be coming from this room.”
He grabbed the door handle and pressed it down. “It’s locked.”
“I’ll call the locksmith back,” Meng Xiaokai said, making a phone call.
The locksmith quickly returned with his tool bag.
The lock on the room door was easier to open than the main entrance. The locksmith fixed it in a few moves.
He opened the door, and the rotten, sour smell hit them, almost making him throw up his dinner from the night before.
“Ugh—” the locksmith gagged.
Si Heng walked forward, turned on the light in the room, his gaze suddenly darkened, and he immediately looked at Jiang Yuan and Xiao Xu, who were approaching, and warned, “You two, don’t look yet.”
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Yuan stopped in her tracks, not daring to move forward.
The locksmith was crying from gagging. After a glance, he let out a horrific scream. “What is this? A room full of dead cats… No wonder it stinks so much!”
He Lewei’s expression was grave. “He didn’t adopt stray cats because he had compassion.”
“Dead cats?” Jiang Yuan hesitated for a few seconds before still walking over. “Are there no live kittens?”
“Uncertain.” He Lewei asked hesitantly as she approached, “Are you sure you want to see?”
Jiang Yuan nodded solemnly.
“Be prepared,” He Lewei said, then moved slightly to the side.
Even though Jiang Yuan had mentally prepared herself, she was still so horrified by the scene that her scalp tingled.
Her face changed drastically, she quickly turned her head away, her hands hanging by her sides clenched tightly.
Was He Linwen a devil? He was truly too cruel, to have tortured so many kittens to death!
