Chapter 119: Yuan Yuan, I’m In So Much Pain!
Jiang Yuan looked at the triumphant macaque Mili and praised, “Excellent.”
“Hehe.” Macaque Mili was very happy to be praised.
Jiang Yuan tentatively asked, “Since you’re so excellent, you must know where Annie is, right?”
“That stupid monkey?” Mili snorted, “That stupid monkey is probably dying.”
“Dying?” Jiang Yuan frowned slightly and asked worriedly, “Why do you say that?”
Mili pointed her finger at Huang Zecheng, “He isn’t feeding Annie. He said Annie is seeking death, so let’s starve it to death.”
A hint of anger appeared on Jiang Yuan’s face. She turned and walked in front of Huang Zecheng, asking sternly, “Where is Annie?”
Huang Zecheng’s heart skipped a beat. He asked with a face full of confusion, “What do you mean, isn’t Annie over there?”
He pointed at Mili beside Jiang Yuan.
Jiang Yuan’s expression turned serious, “This is not Annie.”
“Hey, you!” Huang Zecheng was very flustered but pretended to be calm, saying, “How is this not Annie? This is Annie! If not Annie, then who else could it be?”
Cai Wenliang listened, completely baffled, “What is going on?”
Jiang Yuan sneered, “This is Mili!”
Huang Zecheng’s pupils shrank, his heart filled with shock.
How did she know this was Mili?
He nervously swallowed, “No, this isn’t Mili.”
Jiang Yuan took a deep breath but was still very angry, “The police are right here. You’d better tell the truth!”
“I, I am telling the truth.” Huang Zecheng felt extremely guilty. “Mili is playing outside. I raised them, how could I not recognize them?”
Jiang Yuan felt like hitting someone.
She clenched her fist, turned to Cai Wenliang, and said solemnly, “Director Cai, I am very sure this macaque is not Annie, but Mili.”
Cai Wenliang frowned and looked at Huang Zecheng, asking sternly, “What exactly is going on?”
“I don’t know either.” Huang Zecheng shook his head.
Jiang Yuan saw that he refused to admit it, so she turned to ask Mili again, “Beautiful Mili, do you know where Annie is? Can you take me to find her?”
“Cannot, I don’t have time.” Mili replied righteously.
Jiang Yuan: “…”
She thought for a moment and said softly, “I can take beautiful photos of you and give you delicious food.”
“Really?” Mili was somewhat tempted. After considering, she nodded, “Alright, follow me.”
Jiang Yuan gave Huang Zecheng a cold glance and followed Mili.
Si Heng also followed.
Cai Wenliang watched their backs, feeling a bit uneasy.
He glared at Huang Zecheng and angrily said, “What are you doing?”
“I didn’t…” Huang Zecheng retorted.
Jiang Yuan followed Mili out of the isolation room and walked along the corridor, stopping at the door of a small room at the end.
“That stupid monkey Annie is locked in here.” Mili turned to look at her.
“Thank you.” Jiang Yuan thanked her, her expression solemn as she opened the bolt and latch.
The door was pushed open, revealing a dark storage room with a damp, musty smell.
Jiang Yuan turned on her mobile phone’s flashlight and shone it inside.
She looked around and finally found the fluffy little creature in a corner.
Perhaps hearing the sound of the door opening, the little creature flinched in fear and hid behind some clutter.
Jiang Yuan looked at its reaction, her frown deepening, and her mood turned heavy.
She softly called out, “Annie, it’s me.”
Annie, hiding behind the clutter and trembling, heard this voice. The eyes filled with fear in the darkness gradually began to gleam.
This voice seemed to be…
“Annie, don’t be afraid.” Jiang Yuan spoke softly again.
Annie cautiously poked its head out.
Seeing the person standing at the door clearly, it said with immense surprise, “Yuan Yuan!”
Annie slowly walked to the door.
Jiang Yuan felt that its way of walking seemed a bit strange, “What’s wrong? Does your foot hurt?”
Annie slowly walked into the light.
Jiang Yuan saw its current state clearly, and her eyes instantly reddened.
Macaques are naturally small, and Annie was even thinner than when Jiang Yuan had last seen her. Its fluffy body was covered in various wounds, some of which were torn open.
“Annie… does it hurt a lot?” she asked with a trembling voice.
Annie had been in this small storage room for almost a week.
At first, when it was beaten, it felt a lot of pain. As time passed, it gradually felt numb.
It thought it would never see the sunlight again and would have to stay in this dark room until it died.
It had originally stopped feeling pain, but when Jiang Yuan asked like this, Annie suddenly felt immense pain.
It nodded, its two brown eyes filling with tears, “It hurts! Yuan Yuan, it hurts so much!”
“I’ll take you to see a doctor.” Jiang Yuan leaned down and held Annie in her arms. Turning, she saw Cai Wenliang and said with a cold face, “Director Cai, you had better provide a reasonable explanation.”
After speaking, she held Annie and walked quickly towards the veterinary room.
Cai Wenliang looked at Annie, covered in wounds, and was also shocked, “This…”
He turned and stared at Huang Zecheng, his tone full of anger, “Xiao Huang, what exactly are you doing?”
Huang Zecheng stammered, unable to speak.
Jiang Yuan entered the veterinary room holding Annie, but no one was there.
Cai Wenliang caught up, anxiously saying, “Consultant Jiang, although there is a veterinary room here, the veterinarians are all borrowed from the zoo.”
Jiang Yuan’s eyebrows were filled with urgency. She turned to Si Heng and said, “Take Annie to the Wildlife Protection Base.”
“Okay.” Si Heng nodded. On the way to the parking lot, he called Meng Xiaokai to contact the protection base and arrange for a doctor.
Cai Wenliang ran to keep up with them.
Jiang Yuan sat in the back seat of the car. Cai Wenliang pulled at the car door and said anxiously, “Consultant Jiang, don’t worry, I will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly.”
Jiang Yuan held Annie, her face cold, “It’s best if you can figure it out. I don’t mind letting netizens all over the country supervise how the Wu Lin Mountain Forest Zoo takes care of macaques.”
“There’s no need for that.” Cai Wenliang’s forehead was covered in cold sweat. “I will investigate it thoroughly.”
“Alright.” Jiang Yuan reached out and slammed the car door shut.
Cai Wenliang’s nose was almost caught by the car door. He was startled and took two steps back.
The car started, kicking up exhaust fumes that hit him.
Cai Wenliang’s face looked unpleasant. He turned and went to find Huang Zecheng.
“You explain things clearly to me. Why did you lock the macaque in the storage room, and why are there so many wounds on it!”
“Also, what’s the deal with Annie’s child!”
In the car.
Annie looked at the car driving out of the familiar place. She turned and looked expectantly at Jiang Yuan, “Yuan Yuan, did you come here to find Youyou?”
Jiang Yuan dared not look into her eyes and averted her gaze, “Sorry… not yet.”
Annie’s eyes instantly filled with disappointment.
She lowered her little head.
Looking at her like this, Jiang Yuan felt even more distressed.
She didn’t know how to comfort her.
She didn’t want to give her hope and then let her down.
Silence fell in the carriage.
After a long while, Annie, perhaps comforting herself or Jiang Yuan, said in a low voice, “It’s okay, everything will be okay.”
