Chapter 118: You’re Not Annie
Cai Wenliang is fifty-three years old this year, and he is quite dissatisfied with the attitude of these two young people.
He frowned and said solemnly, “Captain Si, this is Forest Park, and whether macaques can be seen by outsiders is up to me.”
“Okay.” Si Heng didn’t say much to him and said to Jiang Yuan, “Let’s go.”
Although Jiang Yuan was very worried about Annie’s condition, she still followed Si Heng and left Cai Wenliang’s office.
She walked beside the man and lowered her voice to ask, “What about Annie?”
“Don’t worry,” Si Heng turned his head to look at her pure white face full of unease and comforted her, “He will have to invite us over later.”
“Ah?” Jiang Yuan raised her eyes slightly in confusion.
Si Heng turned the phone screen to show her.
Jiang Yuan saw that the phone was making a call to Wei Yufeng.
“Mayor?”
“Yes.”
The call was connected, and Si Heng explained the situation.
Jiang Yuan listened from the side, feeling a little surprised.
Si Heng was so familiar with Wei Yufeng?
Perhaps sensing her thoughts, after hanging up the phone, Si Heng explained, “He is my cousin.”
Jiang Yuan suddenly understood.
So they were relatives.
The two walked leisurely for a while, and a voice called from behind, “Captain Si, Consultant Jiang, please stay!”
Cai Wenliang ran, sweating profusely, his slightly wrinkled face creased into a smile, “We can discuss Annie’s matter. Please sit down and have some tea first. I’ll have someone arrange it.”
Jiang Yuan and Si Heng stopped. The latter said calmly, “Then we’ll trouble Director Cai.”
Cai Wenliang looked at his nonchalant demeanor and took a handkerchief from his pocket to wipe his sweat, “It’s nothing, it’s what I should do.”
He didn’t expect this person’s background to be so strong.
The two returned to Cai Wenliang’s office. The disposable paper cups on the coffee table were filled with burning hot tea, emitting wisps of white smoke.
Cai Wenliang was holding his phone and making a call.
It was probably because the other party used Annie’s discomfort as an excuse to refuse Jiang Yuan and Si Heng seeing it. Cai Wenliang suppressed his anger and said, “Where is Annie uncomfortable? Consultant Jiang is here, let her take a look.”
The other end of the phone was still making excuses, and Cai Wenliang’s temper flared. He scolded, “If I tell you to arrange it, then arrange it! What nonsense! Arrange it immediately!”
He hung up the phone, raised his hand to adjust the glasses frame that had slid down to his nose, and smiled at the two, “It’s arranged.”
“Okay,” Jiang Yuan nodded and took two sips of tea from the paper cup.
Five minutes later, Cai Wenliang made another phone call, “Is it arranged?”
The tension in his face eased slightly. He put down his phone and said, “Captain Si, Consultant Jiang, it’s arranged. Please follow me.”
The monkey keeper said that Annie was unwell and was resting in the isolation room at the rescue center.
Jiang Yuan and Si Heng came to the rescue center and saw the lonely back of a macaque in the isolation room.
It sat on the floor, looking up at the window.
Monkey keeper Huang Zecheng sighed, “Annie has been very disobedient recently, refusing to eat, and has become sick from hunger.”
“Annie,” Jiang Yuan called out softly at the entrance.
The macaque in the isolation room showed no reaction.
Jiang Yuan frowned, a sense of worry rising in her heart.
She was very worried about Annie.
It must have been thinking about Youyou all the time.
Jiang Yuan turned her head and asked, “Has Annie been like this since she came back?”
“Yes,” Huang Zecheng nodded, looking worried, “I’m very worried about Annie’s condition, so I brought it to the isolation room and stayed with it whenever I had time.”
“Annie, I’m Jiang Yuan, I’ve come to see you,” Jiang Yuan called out again, “Are you thinking about Youyou?”
Upon hearing the name “Youyou,” Huang Zecheng’s gaze flickered slightly, and he asked in confusion, “Who is Youyou?”
“You don’t know Youyou?” Jiang Yuan met Huang Zecheng’s confused expression, her gaze slightly condensed, “Youyou is Annie’s baby. As a monkey keeper, how could you not know about this?”
Cai Wenliang was also shocked and exclaimed, “Annie has a child?”
Jiang Yuan frowned, turned her head to meet Si Heng’s gaze.
Si Heng’s voice was cold, “Annie gave birth to a macaque baby, and Forest Park doesn’t even know about it?”
Huang Zecheng looked as if he had seen a ghost, “Officers, what kind of joke are you playing? I see Annie every day, and I haven’t found it having a child at all.”
Cai Wenliang was also confused, “Captain Si, Consultant Jiang, are you mistaken?”
“It’s impossible to be mistaken,” Jiang Yuan’s voice was clear and cold, her tone conveying certainty, “Annie’s child is called Youyou, and it was stolen by someone some time ago, which is why Annie came down the mountain to kidnap a human child.”
The police had been secretly investigating this matter. The person in charge of Forest Park didn’t even know about the existence of the macaque baby Youyou?
This was simply absurd.
Jiang Yuan’s expression was ice-cold, and she said to Huang Zecheng, “Open the door to the isolation room. I need to communicate with Annie face to face.”
“That won’t do,” Huang Zecheng immediately shook his head, “It’s too dangerous. Annie’s temperament has changed drastically recently, and she doesn’t know you. She might harm you. We can’t bear that responsibility.”
Jiang Yuan repeated indifferently, “Open the door.”
Huang Zecheng looked at Cai Wenliang and said with difficulty, “Director Cai, please try to persuade this lady. Although the macaque looks small, don’t underestimate its attack power.”
Cai Wenliang frowned, thinking about something in his heart.
“Open the door. I will take responsibility if anything happens,” Si Heng’s thin lips moved, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Since he said that, Cai Wenliang naturally wouldn’t be tactless.
“Xiao Huang, listen to Captain Si and open the door,” he ordered.
Huang Zecheng had no choice but to open the door to the isolation room.
He watched Jiang Yuan push the door open and walk in, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
“Annie, I’m Jiang Yuan,” Jiang Yuan said softly, standing behind the macaque, “Are you thinking about Youyou?”
The macaque, which had been looking out the window, turned its head.
It stared at Jiang Yuan, its round eyes full of hostility, baring its sharp teeth.
The first time Jiang Yuan saw Annie, its eyes were full of wariness, but even though its child was stolen by humans, it had never shown such strong hostility.
Her intuition told Jiang Yuan that this was not Annie.
She frowned and said, “You are not Annie, who are you?”
The macaque, which was about to attack Jiang Yuan, heard this and the ferocity on its face instantly turned into curiosity, “Holy crap, how did you know?”
Jiang Yuan glanced back at Huang Zecheng, then said to the macaque, “Annie and I are friends, of course I know.”
“Yo, that stupid monkey actually has a human friend?” the macaque’s tone was contemptuous.
Jiang Yuan’s eyes narrowed slightly, and she asked softly, “My name is Jiang Yuan, what’s your name?”
“My name is Mili, how about it, isn’t my name very nice?” The macaque Mili was very narcissistic, “Much nicer than Annie’s name!”
“Yes,” Jiang Yuan went along with her, “Your name is very elegant.”
“Of course,” the macaque Mili was extremely proud, “My name is the best-sounding among all the monkeys.”
Goodnight~
