Chapter 33: Reporting For School
The heavy rain showed no signs of stopping.
Several cars were parked at the residential community entrance at this time, among which one black car was as wide and large as the nanny van.
Under Huang Qingyi’s lead, Li Ye approached the nanny van, and then the car door was pulled open.
While signaling Li Ye to get in, Huang Qingyi looked at him with a very astonished expression.
It even carried a bit of fear.
Wu Yongnian’s cause of death was a shot to the head, two shots to the legs had left him unable to flee, but there were also several gashes on his left ribs that looked like they had been scraped out by iron hooks.
This senior brother of his was a genuine Seven Dragon Gate, with swordplay and realm both a level above his, yet now he had died in a way that felt ridiculous.
Above Six Dragon Gate, as long as one had martial arts to rely on, dodging a bullet was no problem, but there were absolutely no signs of fighting around, and he had died too cleanly.
This was all done by the person in front of them who, just over a month ago, had still been an ordinary student.
Li Ye took off his raincoat, smiled at Huang Qingyi, handed him the raincoat, and entered the nanny van.
The back of the car was like a small compartment, with a table in the middle. As soon as Li Ye sat down after entering, Pan Zhengyang, who was sitting in the center position, handed him a cigarette.
Li Ye took it and naturally lit it, exhaling a puff of smoke.
Pan Zhengyang stared at him and smiled, saying, “What does it feel like?”
“What feeling could there be toward an enemy? At first it was a bit nauseating, but later I got used to it,” Li Ye said.
“Not bad, no dizziness or nausea or other delicate ailments.”
Pan Zhengyang nodded and said, “This matter really has nothing to do with the Ren Family. That one in their family… who was it? Old Sun.”
“Ren Xu, he completed the procedures and went abroad last week.”
The person in the front driver’s seat turned his head and said, “Wu Yongnian probably acted on his own.”
“Section Chief.”
Li Ye saw that the person in the driver’s seat was Sun Shun, called out to him, then frowned again, “Director Pan, this is the second time.”
“Yeah, the second time.”
Pan Zhengyang clicked his tongue, “But they’re shrewd, they don’t leave any handles in their actions, so it’s impossible for them to do something stupid. That old fart from the Ren Family wouldn’t do something so brainless, and you’re just a student not worth him going to such lengths.”
The main reason came last.
Even if Li Ye joined the Disinfection Bureau as a part-timer, he was just an information officer, still a student, and had just entered Dragon Gate not long ago. The Ren Family, who were so cunning that Pan Zhengyang still hadn’t caught any clues to this day, how could they target a student who had nothing.
Sun Shun also said, “Wu Yongnian had just been fired by us, he might have held a grudge. Your magic treasure intelligence was provided by him, which led to Ren Xu going abroad later.”
Li Ye had heard about Ren Xu being punished from Sun Shun before, heard he was whipped into a spinning top. He thought the matter was over, but unexpectedly he had directly gone abroad.
Li Ye said in surprise, “Isn’t that being too cautious?”
“It’s precisely this caution that makes me certain they definitely have something fishy going on!”
Pan Zhengyang exhaled a heavy puff of smoke, “Noble Families, capital, powerhouses… anyway, anyone with some influence in this world acts all high and mighty. No matter how big the trouble they cause, they think they can settle it. If they can beat you, they bully you even harder; if they can’t, they hold banquets, give gifts, and apologize.”
“But none of that counts for anything, because the truly arrogant ones were mostly killed off thirty years ago. This Ren Family has no need to be so cautious over this small matter, damn it, they’re being excessively cautious!”
He waved his hand while cursing, saying, “Alright, I’ve handled the matter cleanly for you. School starts soon, don’t overthink it.”
Li Ye nodded, bid farewell to the two, opened the car door, and got out.
Regardless of whether this matter was related to the Ren Family or not, this was the only way for now.
He was just at Three Dragon Gates and couldn’t do anything about it. The Ren Family’s matters weren’t something he could get involved in right now.
Watching Li Ye leave, Sun Shun then said, “Bureau Chief, Li Ye strikes a bit ruthlessly.”
Pan Zhengyang took a drag of his cigarette and said, “Ruthless is right. They wanted his life, and he’s not allowed to fight back? No such reason.”
“What about Wu Yongnian’s family?”
“Ordinary people?”
“They were before, now they do some small business.”
“Handle it as death in the line of duty, give them some money as a gesture. After all, it has nothing to do with his family. Consider it our Disinfection Bureau not handling things well.”
Pan Zhengyang said, “That would be the utmost benevolence and righteousness. Damn it, if I’d known, I wouldn’t have shown mercy. What exorcism? Dying under some demonic creature would have been fine too. If it were really death in the line of duty, there’d be some dignity. What is this now?”
Sun Shun chuckled and said, “Li Ye was someone you discovered. This shows your guidance was effective.”
Pan Zhengyang chuckled twice, leaned back, closed his eyes, and said no more.
After a while, the several cars at the residential community entrance drove away. As for the corpse, bullet casings, and other things that should have been inside the community, they had completely vanished, as if they had never happened.
Li Ye’s life calmed down. After all, accidents didn’t happen every day, and school was about to start, so he rested at home and didn’t wander around.
These days, all he could access was news on TV and his mobile phone about big demons appearing somewhere, or top powerhouses exterminating demonic creatures, or his father constantly cursing about capital at work.
It was as if there was no Disinfection Bureau, no Noble Families, and life went on as usual.
Of course, the salary was still collected for free.
In two months, he had received over thirty thousand.
He took ten thousand of this money and gave it to his parents, saying it was salary from part-time work, which left his parents astonished for a while.
What part-time job pays five thousand a month?
Then they praised Li Ye for being promising and felt that their insistence back then on making Li Ye do martial arts training was right.
Without breaking through Dragon Gate, how could anyone look at him differently.
Until August 25, Li Ye went to school to report to the homeroom teacher.
Liberal Arts Track students didn’t need to do this, Martial Arts Track students didn’t either, only they preparatory students had to report early to handle procedures for transferring to liberal arts or staying in preparatory.
Of course, they students who had broken through Dragon Gate also had to transfer to Martial Arts Track early.
At the No. 14 Middle School entrance, as soon as Li Ye arrived, he heard two voices speaking in unison.
“Brother Ye!”
Deng Hao and Jia Dong were already waiting there.
After two months apart, Deng Hao had become even more burly, his every gesture filled with a sense of strength.
Jia Dong’s body had also become much more solid, his knuckles covered with a thick layer of calluses.
Li Ye smiled faintly, “You’ve broken through?”
The two trembled all over, stimulating their Qi and Blood, the leaping frequency exactly once.
One Dragon Gate.
Then they looked at Li Ye expectantly. Although Li Ye had said early on that he had broken through, seeing was believing, and only seeing it made them feel at ease.
Li Ye also stimulated his Qi and Blood, the leaping frequency of three times making the two widen their eyes.
“No way!”
Deng Hao exclaimed in shock, “How is it Three Dragon Gates?!”
They had seen it, but it was a bit shocking.
“Ate some good stuff.”
Li Ye said, “Let’s go, don’t keep the strict demon head waiting. Transfer to Martial Arts Track early.”
“What did you eat? Even eating people isn’t this fast!”
Deng Hao shouted, “Too exaggerated. How did you reach Three Dragon Gates? I could accept Two Dragon Gate, but Three Dragon Gates… what does a year in preparatory count for?”
Consider his system not credited yet.
“Alright, report first, find a place to eat at noon and chat.”
Li Ye laughed and walked ahead into the school gate.
“Brother Ye, martial arts training is too tough.”
Along the way, Deng Hao started complaining, “Up before dawn, training until late at night. Besides eating, it’s all martial arts training. I don’t even have time to jerk off.”
Jia Dong rolled his eyes, “One drop of essence is worth ten drops of blood. Leaking primal yang means you trained for nothing. You still jerk off except not daring to get hard in the morning! Tired aside, the money spent is like water. After one summer vacation, my family is almost selling the house. Luckily broke through Dragon Gate.”
“How much did you spend?” Li Ye asked curiously.
“Two million. Deng Hao spent more.”
“I spent three million.”
Deng Hao said, “Brother Ye, you must have spent even more to reach Three Dragon Gates, right?”
Li Ye estimated for a moment and nodded:
“About the same. Mainly, there’s a relative who used to do martial arts training, very experienced, taught me a lot. Plus good ingredient supply, so broke through quickly.”
The ingredients Pan Zhengyang bought daily added up to over three million.
Poor for liberal arts, rich for martial arts—it’s not just empty words.
“What relative is so awesome? Still teaching? Can we?” Deng Hao asked.
“Can’t teach anymore, left last month to wander the world.”
Li Ye shook his head and, without waiting for the two to ask more, headed toward the office by the preparatory class.
