Chapter 17: Making A Will Before Death
Inside the small restaurant.
Nan Yuanman held her round, bulging little stomach, sitting contentedly on the chair.
Meng Qinian looked at her round little belly in alarm, unable to resist reaching out to touch it: “Why did you eat so much? Does it hurt?”
It looked bloated like a balloon, and he was afraid her belly might burst open the next second.
Nan Yuanman felt a bit ticklish from his touch, couldn’t help twisting her little body and giggling a few times, replying in a childish voice: “It doesn’t hurt.”
“No, come on, I’ll take you to buy some stomach-settling tablets.” Meng Qinian clicked his tongue, leaned down, and picked Nan Yuanman up from the chair.
Nan Yuanman looked chubby-faced, but Meng Qinian realized she was very light after picking her up.
He bounced her up and down in his arms: “Don’t they feed you at home? Why are you so light? You don’t weigh a thing.”
His little niece felt heavy like a weight when picked up, but Nan Yuanman’s weight didn’t look like that of a five-year-old child at all.
When Meng Qinian picked her up, Nan Yuanman was a bit slow to react, but after coming to her senses, she uncomfortably hugged his neck, her body tense.
Meng Qinian’s eyes rolled back from her grip: “Loosen, loosen up a bit, you’re choking me to death.”
Nan Yuanman embarrassedly loosened her hands a little, gazing at him about to speak, but let out a surprised “Eh” when she saw his current facial physiognomy.
Meng Qinian strode out holding her, hearing her soft “Eh,” he asked: “What’s wrong?”
“Big brother, your old man is going to die.” She cupped his face with both hands, carefully examining Meng Qinian’s facial physiognomy. Black malevolent Qi was gradually enveloping his parents palace; the originally plump and full area representing the father was slowly turning dark.
This indicated that Meng Qinian’s father had encountered life danger, and he was very likely to lose his father.
Meng Qinian’s face changed abruptly: “What did you say?!”
That old thing was dying?
Wasn’t he perfectly fine at home right now, lovey-dovey with his stepmother? How could he possibly die?
“Your dad is dying, aren’t you happy?” Nan Yuanman tilted her head to look at him. Hadn’t he just asked when her own dad would die?
Why was he not happy at all now that he knew his own dad was dying?
“Happy! Of course I’m happy, I just…” Meng Qinian’s voice rose slightly, as if covering something up, but inside he couldn’t avoid feeling anxious and worried, gritting his teeth and cursing damn it under his breath.
“Where is that old thing now? Yuanman, I… I’ll pay, you, you save him, okay?”
Full and satisfied, Nan Yuanman was very agreeable, patting her little chest: “Sure.”
She plucked a hair from Meng Qinian, chanted incantations for divination, and pointed east: “He’s over there, about a kilometer away from you.”
Meng Qinian didn’t even have time to respond properly before rushing out holding Nan Yuanman.
–
After leaving the Meng family home, Meng Lei first went to Taigu management to get the surveillance footage, and finally saw footage of Meng Qinian walking out the gate.
He cursed under his breath as he drove out of the villa district, searching everywhere for Meng Qinian’s figure while on the phone.
As his car drove out of the villa district and merged into the main road entrance, waiting at the traffic light, the surrounding light suddenly became extremely dim.
A mass of white mist rose before Meng Lei’s eyes, with visibility so low in the mist that he couldn’t see the road ahead at all.
“What’s going on? Why did fog suddenly rise? Why did it get so dark outside? Are the streetlights out?” Meng Lei frowned tightly, sitting in the driver’s seat and looking left and right outside.
He then realized that not only were the streetlights gone outside, but the pedestrians who had been coming and going had also disappeared at some point.
The entire street was empty, as if he were the only person left between heaven and earth.
Meng Lei’s subconscious sensed something was off, and just as he was about to lock the car doors, his hand inexplicably opened the door instead.
After the car door opened, a slender figure he had longed for appeared at the doorway.
He was slightly stunned, looked up at the figure, and said blankly: “A-Ya…”
At the same time, at the intersection.
The sedan driver following behind Meng Lei impatiently honked the horn, but no matter how many times he honked, the big brother ahead didn’t move.
He irritably rolled down the window and yelled at the Maybach ahead: “Hey! Big brother up front, what the hell are you doing! The green light is almost over! Get moving! I’m in a hurry to pick up my child!”
The cars behind the driver also started honking continuously, filling the intersection with beeping horns.
But the people in the Maybach seemed deaf, with no movement at all.
“Hey! Screw your mother!” The sedan driver irritably slapped the steering wheel, rolled up his sleeves preparing to get out and confront him.
But the Maybach’s door suddenly opened ahead, and Meng Lei’s tall figure stepped out of the car.
The sedan driver’s sleeve-rolling paused, looking at Meng Lei’s imposing build, suddenly feeling intimidated. No way? He hadn’t even gone over yet, and this big brother was coming to confront him?
He didn’t dare get out, shouting from the car window at Meng Lei: “Hey hey hey! Big brother, you blocked the road first! I—ow, holy shit! Where are you going?!”
Before he finished speaking, he saw Meng Lei walking straight onto the road curving to the side.
Just then, a large truck was turning the corner.
Meng Lei suddenly walked over, and the truck driver had no time to brake, crashing straight toward him.
Shrieks from pedestrians and drivers rose one after another on the road; timid bystanders covered their eyes, unable to watch the impending tragedy.
At the critical moment, a black object fell from the sky, smashing heavily into Meng Lei’s abdomen.
The tremendous force sent Meng Lei’s body flying backward, crashing heavily into the open-door Maybach.
“Thud!!”
A piercing screech of brakes sounded as the large truck barely stopped.
Inside the car, Meng Lei suddenly heard a shrill scream by his ear; the slender figure and white mist before his eyes dispersed rapidly, and noisy clamor flooded into his ears.
He lay sprawled on the passenger seat, a square red small coffin on his abdomen, completely dazed.
What… just happened?
The surrounding pedestrians and drivers were also stunned.
“Holy crap, what the heck flew by just now?”
“Is that guy still alive?”
The sedan driver behind the Maybach hurried out to check on Meng Lei: “Hey! Old big brother, you okay?”
At the same time, Meng Qinian also carried Nan Yuanman through the traffic to Meng Lei’s car, shouting loudly before even arriving: “Old man! Are you still alive? Don’t die! You haven’t made a will for me yet!”
Meng Lei’s forehead veins bulged; still unclear what happened, he gave the sedan driver an apologetic smile: “I’m fine, thanks for your concern.”
He then realized his car was stopped in the middle of the intersection, completely blocking the road, with the door still open!
Meng Lei quickly closed the door, drove the car to the side of the road; seeing he was okay, the sedan driver returned to his car and left.
The road, blocked for nearly half an hour, finally cleared.
The large truck driver also pulled over and came to settle the earlier matter with Meng Lei.
Meng Lei pinched the bridge of his nose and called his assistant to come handle it.
After the call, Meng Lei looked at the small coffin placed beside him, his expression incredulous.
What exactly was going on?
He got out holding the small coffin, and Meng Qinian arrived carrying Nan Yuanman.
Meng Qinian saw his intact limbs and sighed in relief inwardly, but his words weren’t pleasant: “Good that you’re not dead. If you want to die later, remember to make a will first before dying.”
He didn’t want the Meng family assets to go cheaply to that mother-son pair.
Meng Lei was so annoyed by his mouth he nearly fell over, pointing at him: “You brat! Can’t you say one nice thing? You—”
He was about to curse Meng Qinian when his gaze met Nan Yuanman in his arms.
The words about to burst out died instantly; he paused, glared angrily at Meng Qinian, raising his voice: “You bastard… You, Meng Qinian! Where did you abduct this child from!”
