Chapter 15: Grandpa, City Folks Are So Crazy
Nan Yuanman paused in her steps and turned her head toward the direction from which the sound came.
That place was emitting faint yin energy, not very strong, yet it made her feel an exceptionally strong malice.
Nan Yuanman frowned slightly, grabbed the cloth bag, pouted her little buttocks, and burrowed into the bushes.
At that moment, in a remote small grove within Tai Gu Villa Area.
The sun had already set, and with the shelter of the leaves, the light inside the small grove was exceptionally dim. If a passerby didn’t look carefully, they wouldn’t notice anyone inside.
A boy wearing a white shirt and suit trousers, extremely thin, with medium-short hair and a handsome appearance, was kneeling on the grass, his eyes downcast and dazed as he stared at the mobile phone flickering faintly in front of him.
The mobile phone screen showed a call interface.
Weirdly, the name displayed on the interface was—Unknown.
A mechanical, low and hoarse, quite strange voice came from the other end of the phone: “That’s right.”
“As long as you follow what I say and end your life step by step, you and your mother can reunite in the underworld.”
His voice gradually took on a seductive tone: “This human world has nothing worth lingering for you, does it?”
“Your father found a new love half a year after your mother died, and even brought back an illegitimate child. Your stepmother is sweet-faced but bitter-hearted, stirring up the relationship between your father and you.”
“The illegitimate child ruined your reputation at school, making everyone think you are a bad child who cheats on exams and molests girls.”
A look of pain appeared on the boy’s pretty and handsome face, his thin body trembling slightly. That voice continued: “Your father doesn’t believe you, your grandpa and grandma don’t believe you either. They believed the illegitimate child’s words, leaving you unable to return home or go to school.”
“No one in this world will love you anymore. The only one who loved you was your mother who has already passed away.”
As this voice spoke, Meng Qinian’s vision blurred, and the image of his mother seemed to appear before him.
She was wearing the red dress she liked most in life, standing in front of him, looking at him with heartache and reaching out to him.
Meng Qinian stared at her in a daze: “Mom…”
“Meng Qinian, your mother is also worried about you. She misses you too and wants to reunite with you.” He spoke slowly: “Don’t you want to see her?”
Meng Qinian’s pupils gradually dilated, and he murmured in response: “I do.”
When his mother was alive, he still felt that home was a harbor sheltering him from wind and rain.
After his mother passed away, he no longer had a home.
No one could shield him from wind and rain. This world… indeed had nothing worth his nostalgia.
“Good child.” That voice sighed deeply, with excitement and agitation hidden in the tone that was hard to detect.
“Don’t be afraid. Do as I say, and you’ll be free soon.”
He said: “Take out the knife you bought today and cut your wrist.”
Meng Qinian’s eyes were vacant, and he mechanically followed his instructions. He took out the sharpened fruit knife he had specially bought today and slowly and sluggishly placed the knife on his fair wrist.
“That’s right, that’s right, just like that, good child. Don’t be afraid. After the blood drops fall, put your wrist on the mobile phone. It won’t hurt.”
Meng Qinian’s hand holding the knife slowly applied force.
The sharp blade cut open the tender skin, and just as it was about to slice into the vein, a short and chubby little figure suddenly burrowed out from the nearby bushes and quickly pounced toward him: “Stay your hand!”
With a “clang,” the knife in Meng Qinian’s hand was kicked flying by the newcomer.
Nan Yuanman’s eyes widened, and she quickly took out a talisman, slapping it down on the mobile phone on the ground. Her childish voice carried anger: “You didn’t do good deeds in life, and after death, you still hide your head and show your tail to harm people! Get out!”
As soon as the talisman touched the mobile phone, it quickly wrapped it up. A golden light flashed by, and wails and screams came from inside the mobile phone.
Immediately after, a black ghost shadow mixed with strands of blood color was ejected from the mobile phone by the power of the talisman.
This was a student ghost wearing a high school uniform. A knife was stabbed into his chest, his skin was pale, black patterns covered his face, and he looked quite terrifying.
After rolling on the ground a few times, he glared at Nan Yuanman both shocked and angry. His pitch-black eyes gradually turned blood-red: “Nosy little brat! You’re asking to die!”
As soon as he spoke, he roared and pounced to kill Nan Yuanman.
Nan Yuanman’s expression turned serious. She drew a talisman from the small cloth bag, chanted incantations with her hands, stepped the Yu step, and was preparing for a sure-kill strike.
The student ghost that was originally pouncing to kill her suddenly turned sharply in mid-air and whooshed into the dense forest.
Nan Yuanman: “???”
She was so angry she fell backward, wailing loudly: “You don’t follow martial ethics!”
He actually dared to toy with her! Outrageous!
The fleeing student ghost sneered.
He wasn’t stupid!
When Nan Yuanman threw out that talisman, he knew he was no match for her.
Of course he ran directly!
As long as the green hills remain, there will be plenty of firewood to burn!
Meng Qinian gradually woke from the chaos and heard the angry and frustrated childish voice by his ear. He subconsciously asked: “What do you mean not following martial ethics?”
Immediately after, the pain from his wrist made him involuntarily gasp: “Hiss—!”
The pain on his body fully woke him up. Meng Qinian looked at his wrist, then at the short and chubby child standing in front of him, staring at her with wide eyes: “Wait, who are you?”
“Where am I? Why is my hand injured?”
Nan Yuanman blinked and asked him: “You don’t remember what happened just now?”
“Your hand, you injured it yourself.” Nan Yuanman pointed at him, then at the fruit knife she had kicked flying nearby: “You were just shouting about reuniting with your mom while slashing at your wrist.”
Meng Qinian: “???”
Meng Qinian’s eyes widened: “!!!”
He subconsciously denied: “Impossible! How could I do something so stupid!”
He did miss his mom, but he also knew that she had gone through life and death to give birth to him. For her sake, no matter how hard it was, he had to live well.
Only by living could he take revenge on that scum man and bitch.
How could he possibly seek death?!
That simply didn’t fit his style!
“Oh, you wouldn’t normally do it, but if you’re bewitched by a ghost, you would.” Nan Yuanman pointed at his mobile phone wrapped in the talisman: “There was a ghost hiding in your mobile phone. I saw it bewitching you to commit suicide when I passed by, so I saved you.”
She reached out to Meng Qinian: “Rescue fee, ten thousand bucks, cash.”
Meng Qinian: “…”
He looked at Nan Yuanman suspiciously: “Kid, are you trying to scam me?”
Nan Yuanman couldn’t help but complain: “What’s there to scam from a short-lived ghost like you?”
Meng Qinian: “?”
He pointed at himself: “Who? Me? Short-lived ghost?”
“Yeah, you were born in Gengjin year Hai month, oh, that is, October 1, 2020. The Gengjin power in your eight characters is not strong, weakened by Hai water, and the hour pillar Ji Mao has weak Ji earth generating Gengjin power, with Mao wood also clashing with earth.
You’ve been frail and sickly since childhood, easily afflicted by diseases. You had a severe illness at ten, leaking your life force early. Now eroded by ghost energy, you won’t live past thirty. What else could you be but a short-lived ghost?”
This long passage sounded like gibberish to Meng Qinian except for “you won’t live past thirty, you’re a short-lived ghost.”
Meng Qinian: “!!!”
His eyes lit up instantly, with no fear of his early death in them, only the excitement of meeting a true master.
He plopped down on his knees in front of Nan Yuanman, gripping her hands tightly, his expression agitated: “Master! You’re a true master! You even calculated my birth year and month. Can you calculate when my dad will die? Will he die before me?”
Whether he lived or not didn’t matter; his dad must die!
Nan Yuanman looked like she was questioning life: “…Huh?”
Grandpa, these city people are so crazy.
