Chapter 98:
He touched his mobile phone and scanned it, “Seven o’clock.”
Meng Shuyou’s pupils dilated slightly.
Nearly five hours?
No wonder she was so tired, her knees were red from kneeling, and even if the sofa’s leather was soft, kneeling for a long time would leave marks.
Pei Yuzhou leaned against the head of the bed, reached out to rub the top of her head, “Hungry? Get up and eat.”
Meng Shuyou said coquettishly, “I don’t have any clothes to wear.”
Pei Yuzhou raised his eyebrow lightly, “There’s no one else.”
Meng Shuyou pushed his hand away in shy annoyance.
There’s no one else, but she couldn’t eat naked either; she didn’t have that perversion.
The doorbell rang just then.
Pei Yuzhou adjusted his bathrobe and got up to open the door.
Soon, he returned to the bedroom, carrying a shopping bag from a certain luxury brand in his hand, “Clothes.”
Meng Shuyou didn’t want to get out of bed for now and shrank into the quilt.
Pei Yuzhou tossed a mobile phone onto the bed.
A pink and tender phone case.
Meng Shuyou happily took it, “My mobile phone! You had someone bring it back for me!”
She hadn’t touched her mobile phone for a full five days; every day she stayed in the room and could only paint and watch television, utterly bored.
Pei Yuzhou plugged the charger in for her.
“Thank you, Mister Pei.” Meng Shuyou sat up on the bed wrapped in the quilt and took the charging cable to plug it into the mobile phone.
As soon as she turned it on, several missed call reminders popped up, and WeChat had 99+ unread messages.
Winnie’s messages were the most numerous.
“Yaoyao, I’m coming to see you, come pick me up at the station when I arrive.”
“Where are you? Why aren’t you replying to me? Do you not love me anymore?”
“Why did you suddenly disappear?”
“Did something happen?”
“You didn’t get sick and have a fever again, did you?”
“I heard Zhao Hesong say you’re being forced into a marriage alliance by your family? Are you sure you’re their biological child? Maybe you were adopted?”
“Mister Pei is coming to kill his way to China.”
The latest two messages were sent three hours ago.
“Are you okay now, Yaoyao?”
“Being lovey-dovey with your family’s Mister Pei, no time for me?”
Meng Shuyou typed back: “I just got my mobile phone, sorry for worrying you, Winnie.”
Winnie replied instantly: “You finally got online! Thank goodness!”
Meng Shuyou: “Did you come to Bin City?”
Winnie: “Yeah, I’m waiting for you to go back to Chicago together.”
Meng Shuyou: “Then I’ll come find you tomorrow.”
Winnie: “Not tonight?”
Meng Shuyou pursed her lips; she really had no energy today.
Winnie: “I get it, you want to be clingy with Mister Pei.”
Meng Shuyou seemed unable to refute.
After chatting, she immediately called Aunt Xue.
After ringing for more than ten seconds, the other side picked up and asked anxiously: “Yaoyao, are you still at the Meng Family? They didn’t do anything to you, did they?”
“I’m fine, Aunt Xue. How’s Older Sister?”
Aunt Xue relaxed, “She’s doing pretty well, just looking for you every day.”
“Tell her I’ll go to the hospital early tomorrow to see her.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Meng Shuyou put down the mobile phone and got dressed.
Pei Yuzhou had called room service to deliver food.
Meng Shuyou was already hungry; she’d only eaten a few bites at noon and been tossed around all afternoon, her stomach completely empty.
She ate a portion of seafood noodles, half a portion of fruit and vegetable salad, and a dessert, completely full. She should have walked around to digest, but her legs were really sore and she didn’t want to move at all.
Pei Yuzhou sat on the sofa handling work, with a notebook in front of him.
Meng Shuyou stayed quietly beside him, her gaze falling on the man.
He was serious and aloof when working, the perfect abstinent type; who could imagine how crazily he had done it with her on the sofa that afternoon while holding her.
Certain colored taboo scenes flashed through her mind: he turned her face from behind for kissing, his actions unrestrained… Meng Shuyou quickly stopped her thoughts.
Later, she fell asleep in a daze and was carried to bed by Pei Yuzhou.
–
After sleeping soundly, Meng Shuyou got up at six o’clock; Pei Yuzhou had woken even earlier, and she suspected he had evolved beyond the sleep humans needed.
After eating breakfast at the hotel, the two went out together.
At eight o’clock, she was already at the hospital room.
“Yaoyao, you came…” Before Aunt Xue could finish, she saw the tall and handsome man behind her and asked puzzledly: “Who is this?”
Meng Shuyou introduced, “Aunt Xue, this is Mister Pei; the medical team was brought in with his help.”
Aunt Xue didn’t ask more and greeted him with a polite smile, “Hello, Mister Pei.”
Pei Yuzhou nodded in response.
Shu Man sat on the bed afraid to come over, looking timidly at the unfamiliar face at the doorway.
Pei Yuzhou didn’t go in, “I’ll wait for you outside.”
Meng Shuyou agreed: “Okay.”
Seeing Pei Yuzhou leave, Shu Man’s body finally relaxed.
Meng Shuyou walked to the bedside, held her hand to comfort her, “Older Sister, he’s not a bad person, don’t be afraid.”
Shu Man murmured softly: “Yaoyao…”
“Sorry, Older Sister, I had something to handle the past few days and couldn’t come to the hospital.” Meng Shuyou explained, “But I have to go back to America the day after tomorrow to study. If you miss me, video call me, okay?”
Shu Man nodded slowly.
“Yaoyao, is the Meng Family still forcing you into a marriage alliance?” Aunt Xue asked.
Meng Shuyou shook her head, “That side’s matters have been resolved.”
Aunt Xue smiled in relief, “That’s great, you can go back to study with peace of mind; don’t worry about Xiao Man here.”
“Okay.”
Meng Shuyou stayed in the hospital room playing Lego with Shu Man and forgot the time for a moment, then suddenly remembered Mister Pei was still waiting for her, “Aunt Xue, I have a lunch appointment with a friend, I have to go.”
Aunt Xue waved her hand, “Okay, go on.”
Meng Shuyou said to Shu Man again, “Older Sister, I’m leaving, bye-bye.”
Leaving the hospital room, she hurried downstairs to the parking lot to find Pei Yuzhou.
“Finally remembered me?” He sat in the car flipping through a finance weekly.
Meng Shuyou didn’t admit it, “I didn’t forget you.”
She got in the car and sat down, closing the car door.
Pei Yuzhou looked up, “Do you know what time it is now?”
“…Ten-thirty.” Meng Shuyou said weakly: “You could have called to remind me.”
Pei Yuzhou countered: “Didn’t you say you didn’t forget?”
Meng Shuyou: “…” The more said, the more mistakes.
She changed the subject, “Let’s go to the restaurant now; Winnie and Mister Zhao have set off too.”
Originally it was just her and Winnie, but since Zhao Hesong insisted on following Winnie, she simply invited Mister Pei too, so the four of them could eat together.
Meng Shuyou had booked a private cuisine restaurant, hidden in the bustling city, with a serene environment, the sound of flowing water, and the upstairs terrace facing the lake and pavilion, with great views.
Winnie and Zhao Hesong arrived first.
As soon as Meng Shuyou pushed open the door, Winnie pounced and hugged her, “Yaoyao, I finally get to see you!”
Zhao Hesong tsked, “Is it that exaggerated?”
Winnie turned back and glared at him, “What do you know.”
Zhao Hesong shrugged, “OK, I don’t know.”
This woman ruthlessly blocked him for so many days without contact; it was thanks to Meng Shuyou that he got off the blacklist.
Winnie let go of Meng Shuyou and called out to the man behind her, “Mister Pei.”
Pei Yuzhou nodded, “Miss Winnie.”
Winnie: “Good thing you came, or I wouldn’t have been able to reach Yaoyao at all.”
