Chapter 34:
Meng Yan took her down the elevator and out through the hospital’s side door.
There were few passersby here, and a black business car was parked roadside.
Shu Man looked around and suddenly stopped.
Meng Yan grabbed her wrist, “Let’s go, we’ll get in the car.”
Shu Man shook her head, refusing to walk further.
Yaoyao said she could only go out with Aunt Xue, and couldn’t wander around.
Meng Yan urged, “Come on, I’ll take you to the amusement park.”
Shu Man resisted all over, wanting to break free from her hand, but didn’t have enough strength to shake it off.
Meng Yan couldn’t possibly let her leave, dragging her toward the car.
A person’s strength bursts out suddenly in fear; Shu Man used a burst of force, Meng Yan’s hand loosened, and she fell backward due to inertia.
“Ah—”
The scream echoed.
Shu Man’s occiput hit a concrete pier exactly, and she fell into a coma on the spot.
Meng Yan panicked and froze completely.
This wasn’t her intention; she only wanted to hide Shu Man temporarily, so that Meng Shuyou couldn’t find her and would naturally hurry back to the country.
But now Shu Man was in trouble, and she couldn’t bear this responsibility.

When Aunt Xue hurried back to the hospital, the hospital room was empty; she hurriedly grabbed a passing nurse and asked: “Where’s the patient in 901?”
The nurse informed: “She went out to play, fell, and is now in the emergency room on the third floor getting her wound checked.”
Aunt Xue’s pupils flashed with shock, extremely anxious, “Is it serious?”
The nurse shook her head, “Still under check-up, I’m not sure.”
Aunt Xue rushed downstairs in a panic, running to the emergency room.
She had only been away for an hour; how could this happen.
How could Xiao Man, who was perfectly fine, run out alone? She had clearly been very obedient lately.
Praying, please don’t let anything happen, otherwise she would have a guilty conscience and wouldn’t know how to explain to Yaoyao.
Aunt Xue waited at the emergency room doorway for twenty minutes; finally the door opened, and the nurse pushed out the hospital bed.
She hurried forward, “Doctor, I’m the patient’s family; how is she?”
“The patient suffered a head impact; the CT scan hasn’t found any issues yet, but it’s uncertain if there are aftereffects; specifics will require further observation after the patient wakes up.”
“Okay, thank you doctor.”
Shu Man was sent back to the hospital room upstairs.
Aunt Xue stayed by the bedside and didn’t dare go anywhere.
The person hadn’t woken up yet, so she didn’t dare be careless.
In the evening, a nurse came to check the room.
Aunt Xue specifically asked: “Where can I view the hospital’s surveillance? I want to know what exactly happened at noon.”
“The security department can pull up the surveillance, but I heard the surveillance on this floor was broken since the morning and wasn’t fixed until the afternoon.”
“Broken?”
“Yeah.” The nurse hesitated for a moment, feeling she should still say it, “But, around noon, I think I saw Miss Meng in the corridor.”
Aunt Xue was stunned, “Meng Yan?”
If Meng Yan took Shu Man out, why would she do that? Did Shu Man’s injury have anything to do with her?
The nurse was afraid of trouble and didn’t say everything, “I’m not sure if I saw it right.”
The Meng Family holds ten percent shares in this hospital; Meng Yan is in charge of a project for a children’s medical charity foundation and occasionally comes to the hospital, so many medical staff know her.
Aunt Xue didn’t know whether to tell Meng Shuyou about this; after thinking it over, she decided to wait until Shu Man woke up.

Chicago, 7 p.m.
Night had fallen, streetlights dim.
Since the holiday started, the school had been deserted and unusually quiet.
Meng Shuyou ate dinner outside and returned to the dormitory early.
The luggage hadn’t been unpacked yet.
She pulled out the dusty suitcase from the corner, wiped it clean with a cloth, and first packed away some clothes, bags, and shoes.
While organizing the wardrobe, she saw that expensive suit jacket still hanging in the corner.
