Chapter 151: Everyone Has Their Own Secrets
Seeing Mo Ziyuan and Chu Yu who appeared in her courtyard, Lin Xin raised her eyebrows but said nothing and let them in.
“Xin’er, let Old Chu follow you. If anything happens, he’ll be there to look out for you.” Mo Ziyuan really couldn’t bring himself to talk about what had happened before.
“No problem.” Lin Xin could tell from his uneasy expression that something had definitely happened that he didn’t want her to know about, so she didn’t ask and agreed very straightforwardly.
Her being so straightforward made Mo Ziyuan feel even worse inside, and it even made Chu Yu feel a bit sorry for her, since he knew exactly why he was there—to monitor Lin Xin, plain and simple.
“Alright, no need to make that expression. The sky hasn’t fallen.” Seeing the stiff smiles on their faces that looked even worse than crying, Lin Xin couldn’t help but speak up.
“Xin’er······” Mo Ziyuan started with difficulty.
“No need to say it, I know everything,” Lin Xin comforted him by patting the back of his hand. “Don’t worry, I won’t take it to heart. Once we reach the capital city, everything will become clear.”
“You’re not angry?” Mo Ziyuan asked cautiously.
“What’s the use of being angry? I prefer to settle scores when there’s a grudge. Being angry is just punishing myself for others’ mistakes—I’m not that foolish!” Lin Xin huffed.
“Well said. When the time comes, I’ll go with you to help you get revenge!” Mo Ziyuan’s eyes lit up.
“No need for that, lest someone say I’m bullying others with power.” Lin Xin rejected it immediately. Joking aside, if you went, she’d have to go easy on them for your sake!
“Fine, then I’ll escort you to the door and wait outside. That should be okay, right!”
“Alright!” Lin Xin rubbed her chin, thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
Chu Yu, who had listened to their entire conversation, felt like his jaw had dropped to the ground and he couldn’t even pick it up. Were they talking about what he thought? Could he find a good spot to watch when the time came!
After nightfall, Lin Xin took Lin Nan and Lin Tao onto an inconspicuous small horse carriage. Chu Yu wore a bamboo hat and sat outside pretending to be the coachman, driving out of the village under the gaze of Mo Ziyuan and the others.
Once out of the town, Lin Nan and Lin Tao had already fallen asleep. Lin Xin leaned against the carriage wall with her eyes closed, resting. She had originally planned to knock Chu Yu out once they reached a deserted place and store both him and the horse carriage into her space, but right after leaving the village, she sensed several malicious gazes fixed on them from the surroundings. They were watching without acting, unable to confirm if their target was in the carriage.
“Miss Lin, I’m going to speed up. You watch over Your Highness and Nan Nan.” Chu Yu’s lowered voice came from outside the horse carriage.
“Got it, go ahead and speed up!” Lin Xin responded, then pressed several acupoints on Lin Nan and Lin Tao. She placed one hand on each of them, preparing to store them into her space.
Perhaps the carriage speeding up gave those people ideas—Lin Xin suddenly felt several auras closing in on them, but instead of attacking, they followed behind the horse carriage.
“Someone’s following us. What do we do now?” Chu Yu asked again. Before leaving, Mo Ziyuan had told him to ask Lin Xin’s opinion if he was unsure what to do.
“Ignore them. Keep going as planned, and don’t speed up anymore.” Lin Xin thought for a moment and replied.
“This······ alright!” Chu Yu hesitated but followed Lin Xin’s opinion.
“Clop clop clop clop······” On the quiet path, the sound of hooves was exceptionally clear.
“Boss, what do we do? Follow or not?” The men in black ambushing by the road turned their gazes to one burly man among them.
“Damn it, how should I know whether to follow or not!” The burly man wiped his face irritably. The one who told them to ambush here hadn’t said the person they were watching would leave the village at this time! And it was just a small horse carriage— at most it could fit four people inside, no more. That was the future Crown Prince—how could he not have any face like this!
“Then······ should we go take a look?” one slim man asked.
“······Fine, you go check it out. If that little brat is really inside, no need to fight them—just signal the next group.” The burly man thought it over and said.
“Got it!” The slim man responded, then leaped onto a nearby big tree with a tap of his toe, landing on a branch that wasn’t too thick. His black-clad figure instantly vanished into the darkness.
“Third’s lightness skill has improved again.” The one who had asked whether to follow praised as he looked at the branch. When that man landed, not a single leaf on the branch even stirred.
“Third’s lightness skill is indeed impressive. In the future, even against strong enemies he can’t beat, escaping should be no problem.” The burly man also looked at the branch and said.
“Good thing Third was assigned to our group this time. Otherwise, with them doing this, we’d really be in trouble! Anyone else probably would’ve been spotted by now.”
The man said again, but none of them realized that from the moment Third took his first step tracking the horse carriage, Lin Xin had already sensed his presence.
“Chu Yu, someone’s caught up. I’ll go handle it. Just pretend you don’t know and keep doing what you’re doing.” Lin Xin lowered her voice to tell the driving Chu Yu.
“Good, be careful.” Chu Yu didn’t hesitate and agreed straightforwardly.
Lin Xin thought it over but still didn’t store the two children into her space, since Chu Yu was still awake and she didn’t want to take the risk.
“I’m going.” Leaving those words, Lin Xin slipped out like a slick eel, gently lifting a corner of the carriage curtain in a blind spot from their tracker’s view and darting out of the horse carriage.
The man in the tree jumped to another branch, eyeing the horse carriage below and pondering how to lift the curtain for a peek inside without alerting the coachman.
His divided attention conveniently helped Lin Xin. She calculated the distance, jumped onto a tree to conceal herself—but the spot she chose was right next to where the tracker would land next, close enough to grab him with an outstretched hand.
“Miss Lin, Miss Lin······” Chu Yu hadn’t noticed Lin Xin leaving the horse carriage at all and thought she was still inside. Seeing the fork in the road ahead, he wanted to tell her to wait until after the fork before acting, to avoid taking the wrong path. But after calling several times with no response, he realized Lin Xin was no longer in the horse carriage.
He was startled but strongly resisted the urge to stop and check the curtain. He couldn’t help recalling Mo Ziyuan’s warning before departure: “If you see or sense anything unbelievable along the way, best pretend you know nothing, because everyone has their own secrets, and Miss Lin is no exception.”
