Chapter 70: Get The Hell Out Of Here Quick
Cui Shi recalled their first meeting, when the two siblings had ragged clothes, hair dry and yellow like straw, and shriveled, skinny bodies. Then he thought of the little girl from before—although her face had palm prints and bloodstains, and her clothes were covered in dust, it was still clear she was a very healthy child, completely different from Nan Nan and his sister.
“Nan Nan, I heard you severed ties with the Lin Family. Do you know what happened?” Zhou Qi asked again.
Lin Nan nodded. “I know. My dad manifested, and Grandfather agreed to sever ties.”
“What? Your dad manifested?” Zhou Qi nearly bit his tongue. Cui Shi also looked at him curiously, and even Meng Yichen leaned over, all waiting for the rest of the story.
“Yeah, that day Aunt and Third Aunt came home to hit Sister and me, then my dad’s spirit tablet flew outside and wrote a lot of words with water. Clan Leader Grandfather and Uncle Jing both saw it, Grandfather saw it too, and then he agreed to sever ties. Later, my dad said my grandfather wasn’t his real dad, so we have no relation to the Lin Family anymore.”
Cui Shi, Zhou Qi, and Meng Yichen exchanged a glance, all seeing shock in each other’s eyes. A dead person manifesting? Not his real dad? Real or fake?
They all looked at Lin Nan again, wanting to ask more details, but he was just too young and couldn’t explain many things clearly, so they had to drop it.
“Now I get why Miss Lin told me those things before leaving,” Zhou Qi, who had been bored sitting in the courtyard watching Old Cui teach Lin Nan to memorize medical texts, suddenly stood up and said, looking toward the door.
“What’s up?” Meng Yichen lifted his head from his book and asked.
“Shh,” Zhou Qi made a silencing gesture. “You all go inside and hide first. If a fight breaks out later and you get hurt, it won’t be good, even if Old Cui’s medical skill is great and he can treat it—it’s still you who’d be in pain.”
Cui Shi and Meng Yichen deeply felt he made a good point. They looked around, took Lin Nan, and hid in the kitchen.
Just as the kitchen door was closed, the courtyard gate was violently pushed open. A burly man with a scar on his face and a fierce expression stormed in aggressively. Behind him were five or six equally burly, vicious-looking men. As soon as they entered, he shouted loudly: “Where’s Lin Xin? Get out here quick! And that old doctor, come with me to save someone—hurry up!”
Meng Yichen quietly whispered to Lin Nan: “Nan Nan, who is this guy?”
Lin Nan had already scared into hiding in Cui Shi’s arms, shaking his pale little face. “I don’t know him.”
Zhou Qi stepped forward to block the man from going further inside and said flatly: “Lin Xin isn’t home. If you’re looking for her, come back when she’s home!”
The man stepped back, sizing up Zhou Qi from top to bottom, a lewd smile curling at his lips. “You’re that little bitch Lin Xin’s gigolo, right? I was wondering why my sister’s family kept failing against a little girl time after time! Turns out you’re backing them up from behind!”
Seeing Zhou Qi’s face fill with anger, he got even more excited. “Brother, let me give you a heads-up—that little bitch isn’t some good person. Watch out, she’s just using you. Once she’s done, she’ll kick you aside and find someone better. I heard she hooked up with some old doctor and even took Lin Nan as her disciple. Isn’t that just her illusionary technique? Brother, did she fool you with that pretty little face of hers?”
Hearing these filthy words, Zhou Qi’s face turned red with rage. He immediately flew out with a kick, sending the man stumbling back several steps and landing flat on his ass.
His luck was really rotten—the spot where his butt landed was right on the horizontal beam under Lin Xin’s front door. He let out an “ow” and jumped up, clutching his butt and hopping around, while the men who came with him all burst out laughing.
Once the pain finally subsided, the man glared at Zhou Qi with eyes like flying daggers. He waved at the men behind him. “What are you idiots standing around for? Get him! Waste him for me first—damn, it hurts so much.” As he spoke, he rubbed his butt.
Zhou Qi was a battlefield veteran. Now he stood expressionless in the middle of the courtyard, radiating killing intent, and none of the troublemakers dared step forward.
“Who are you people? What exactly do you want with Lin Xin?” Zhou Qi asked flatly.
“Us?” The man clutching his butt seemed to suddenly regain his confidence at the question and shouted loudly: “I’m Lin Xin’s Third Aunt’s brother—she has to call me Uncle! These are my brothers. Lin Xin bullied my sister, causing her miscarriage and injuring her body, and she won’t even give money for treatment. Now she’s dying, so what’s wrong with me coming for Lin Xin?”
“Who told you Lin Xin caused your sister’s miscarriage?” Zhou Qi hadn’t been there at the time, but he had already heard the full story from the villagers.
“Her daughter said it, of course, and my sister admitted it herself. Hurry and get that little bitch Lin Xin out here, take the silver she got from selling ginseng and give it to my sister as compensation. Oh, and call that little bastard Lin Nan’s master too. My niece said that old man has great medical skill and can definitely cure my sister.”
“Your sister’s daughter, Lin Zhi, who said that?”
“Of course not. It’s my eldest niece Lin Duo. Lin Zhi is a cheap slut too—after Lin Xin beat her like that and deafened one of her ears, she still didn’t dare come demand compensation. So as her uncle, I naturally have to stand up for my niece. Since you’re Lin Xin’s gigolo, give me a straight answer: are you giving the money or not!”
“What if I don’t?” Zhou Qi was so amused by his twisted words that he laughed in anger, arms crossed as he stood there looking at him.
“Not giving?” The man sucked his teeth. “Brothers, get him! Don’t be scared—even if he’s tough, he’s just one guy. With so many of us, we can’t beat him?”
The followers seemed to realize he had a point, so they all charged at Zhou Qi waving their fists.
Zhou Qi’s kung fu had been tempered on the battlefield—every move was a real killing technique, far beyond these men’s wild swings. In just a few moves, he subdued them all and tossed them one by one outside the door, stacking them up.
He stood at the door, clapped his hands, and looked down at the man pinned at the bottom. “Let me kindly tell you, you got fooled by your sister. Her miscarriage wasn’t Lin Xin’s doing—it was her eldest daughter Lin Duo. So even if she’s dying, she can’t blame Lin Xin. And didn’t they tell you before you came to make trouble that they’d tried several times themselves and failed every one? The last time, Lin Laosan even blamed Lin Zhi for not acting well and beat her ear deaf!”
“What? Impossible! My sister always dotes on me most—she wouldn’t trick me. You pretty boy, are you just saying this to sabotage my relationship with my sister?”
“Heh, good advice doesn’t persuade stubborn ghosts. Anyway, I’ve told you the truth—believe it or not, that’s on you. But I warn you, if you come trouble Lin Xin again, I’ll personally go make trouble for you and your sister’s family! Now, get lost quick!”
Everyone can rest assured, tomorrow this trash family will be gone—no more harassing the female lead, haha!
