Chapter 31: The Power Of Genetics Is Truly Strong
“Nan Nan, be good and play here first. Older Sister will go make you something delicious.” Lin Xin rubbed his head and said warmly.
“Okay,” Lin Nan’s eyes were fixed on the glass ball, and he responded in a childish voice.
The next morning, when Lin Xin got up, she found Lin Nan curled up beside her like a little kitten, clutching one corner of the quilt tightly in his arms, his little brows slightly furrowed, back to the sleeping posture she had when she first arrived.
Probably sensing the movement of her getting up, Lin Nan’s body shuddered violently, and he opened his eyes in panic. Seeing Older Sister sitting beside him smiling at him, he relaxed his tense body and gave her a pitiful smile.
“Nan Nan, do you have anything you want to do today? Like going out to play or something?” Lin Xin dug him out from the quilt, held him in her arms, patted his back while inputting some wood element ability, and asked.
Lin Nan thought about it and shook his head. “Nan Nan doesn’t want to go out to play. Nan Nan wants to stay with Older Sister.”
“Good, then stay with Older Sister. Today, how about we go play on the mountain again? Older Sister can pick up some firewood along the way, and maybe we’ll run into your big cat!” Lin Xin thought for a moment and said.
“Then let’s go to the mountain. No matter where we go, Nan Nan will stay with Older Sister.” Lin Nan said softly.
Lin Xin sighed slightly. It seemed the events from yesterday had left quite a shadow on him!
Sigh! It probably wouldn’t be easy to erase it either. It would have to be left to time.
For breakfast, Lin Xin didn’t cook. Instead, she took out burgers, french fries, chicken wings, mashed potatoes, milk tea, and coffee from the space. Lin Nan ate with his face covered in oil, and his tense expression relaxed a lot.
Lin Xin nodded in satisfaction. Sure enough, high-calorie food makes people happy.
“Let’s go!” Putting a family bucket into the back basket as lunch, Lin Xin took Lin Nan up the mountain again. To avoid the villagers, she used her wood element ability to clear a path herself.
“Let’s first check if there’s any prey in our trap. If there is, we’ll take Nan Nan to town to sell it later, okay?”
“Okay, Nan Nan also wants to eat the pastry from last time. Can we?”
“Of course! Nan Nan can pick another pastry you haven’t tried today!”
“Mm······Then can Nan Nan have the white flower one?”
“White flower?” Lin Xin thought for a moment. “Oh, you mean lotus cake. Of course!”
The siblings planned what to buy while walking to the first trap, where they saw a person with his butt sticking out, lying at the trap entrance, reaching down with both hands, probably trying to get the things inside, muttering, “Wow, I’m rich, I’m rich······”
Lin Xin mobilized her supernatural ability and soon received feedback from the grass on the ground. It turned out a little deer had fallen in. Luckily, it wasn’t pierced by branches and only had one leg broken from the fall.
The traps she dug were two people deep. Even lying at the trap entrance, it was impossible to reach the prey inside.
The person struggled for a long time but couldn’t reach the little deer. In frustration, he stood up, spat, put his hands on his hips, and cursed at the trap, “Who the hell dug such a deep trap? Making me watch the prey right there but unable to get it. Truly wicked to the core.”
After cursing for a while, not satisfied, his eyes turned and saw a big stone nearby. He went over, tested its weight, picked it up, “Damn it, a live deer can sell for a lot of silver. If I can’t get the silver today, no one else will. I’ll smash it to pieces right now, hmph!”
With that, the person raised the stone to throw it into the trap.
Lin Xin was almost laughed to anger by his shameless, harmful-to-others-without-benefiting-self behavior. Seeing the stone about to be thrown, she moved her finger slightly. Water element supernatural ability output rapidly, and the stone that had just left his hand smashed back at him squarely, hitting his left shoulder perfectly. With a “crack,” the bone breaking sound followed, along with his howl echoing through the mountain forest.
Lin Xin walked up to the person clutching his shoulder, his face pale from pain. She sneered inwardly. This inherited strength was truly powerful. Lin Shenzi herself was a weirdo, her little grandson was a fighter among bear children, and unexpectedly today she met her son Lin Shu, who was also the type to use his face as a shoe mat.
“Xin, Xin Yatou?” Lin Shu was in great pain and thought he was seeing things when he saw Lin Xin.
“Mm, Lin Shu brother, what are you doing by my trap?” Lin Xin asked knowingly.
“What? You say this trap is yours?” Lin Shu’s eyes widened.
“Well, what else? Did you dig it?”
Although Lin Shu’s shoulder hurt terribly, at that moment his mind raced. There was no one else here. If he insisted it was his trap, the villagers would definitely believe him. Lin Xin and Lin Nan had no adults at home to back them up. Even if they knew he was lying, what could they do?
Thinking of this, Lin Shu’s expression hardened. “Xin Yatou, you can’t lie like that just for a bite of meat. This is clearly my trap. When did it become yours? A skinny little girl like you who could be blown away by a gust of wind—do you have the strength to dig traps?”
“Hehe,” Lin Xin laughed mockingly. “Lin Shu brother, oh Lin Shu brother, you, your mom, and your son are all so shamelessly cut from the same cloth!”
“You stinky girl, daring to curse me. Today I’ll teach you a lesson on behalf of your dead parents.” Lin Shu said, ignoring the pain in his shoulder, staggering to his feet, raising his palm to slap Lin Xin’s face.
“You bad person, I won’t let you touch my Older Sister!” Before he could reach Lin Xin, Lin Nan rushed out from behind her, shouting while throwing a small stone he had been playing with at him. Not satisfied, he picked up another and threw it.
Even though Lin Nan was weak, they were close. The two small stones hit Lin Shu’s calf and knee respectively, making him yelp and squat down, clutching his leg. The look in his eyes toward Lin Nan was filled with the same viciousness as Lin Shenzi’s.
“Nan Nan, come here quickly.” Lin Xin, afraid he might suddenly attack Lin Nan, grabbed the back of his collar, pulled him back into her arms, pinched his little face, “Nan Nan is awesome, knowing to protect Older Sister.”
“Mm, Nan Nan protects Older Sister, won’t let bad people hit Older Sister.” Lin Nan said seriously.
“Good, from now on Older Sister will rely on Nan Nan for protection.”
While the siblings were full of warmth here, over there Lin Shu was so angry his nose was almost crooked. He grabbed a handful of leaves from the ground and threw them over. Unbeknownst to him, a little green snake was resting inside, disturbed from its sleep, and bit his tiger’s mouth.
“Yow!” Lin Shu yelled, using his other hand to grab his bitten hand’s wrist. His tiger’s mouth swelled visibly at a speed the naked eye could see, with small streams of blood flowing from the bite wound.
“Sa-save, save a life—I, I was bitten by a snake······” Lin Shu hadn’t seen clearly, only a green shadow, thinking it was a bamboo leaf green. In pain and fear, his voice changed tone, and with a pungent smell of urine, a wet stain slowly spread on his clothes.
