Chapter 46: Flipping The Car
The night in the mountain valley was ethereal and quiet, with countless stars blinking in competition, and moonlight spreading to illuminate the entire pitch-black night.
The traveling ox cart made sounds of wheels squeezing over grit.
The three people sitting in the cart bed behind were dissipating the alcohol smell from their bodies with the gentle evening breeze blowing.
The man and woman sitting opposite each other had flushed faces like peach blossoms, bathed in the soft silver-white moonlight, adding a few more points of unreal beauty.
Looking at it this way, the two really matched well! No one knew how exaggeratedly good-looking the child they would have in the future would be!
Fu Jiaming, half-lying half-leaning against the cart bed wooden board, was once again hit by the two’s beautiful faces, and such a strange thought couldn’t help surging in his heart.
He shook his head with a laugh, hee hee hee giggling to himself uncontrollably.
“Fu Xiao Si, are you okay?”
“Yan Xiao Qi, your Fu lord is doing great!”
Sure enough, he was really drunk, not wasting his reputation for getting drunk after one cup.
Yan Bei turned his head and unexpectedly met her eyes brilliant like a starry river, his heart suddenly beating faster, until the next moment it returned to normal.
With a somewhat strange and puzzled expression, Yan Bei touched his own heart, hesitated for a while before speaking up for the first time to ask, “Are you okay?”
She had only sipped a small mouthful of rice wine, and apart from the burning hot sensation in her throat, she didn’t feel uncomfortable anywhere. Although Su Ning was surprised by his sudden care, she still softly replied that she was fine.
“Yan Bei, Fu Jiaming’s good friend.”
“Su Ning.”
An awkwardness of not knowing how to continue quietly spread, Yan Bei tactically cleared his throat, and inconspicuously kicked the person who was still giggling.
Fu Jiaming, who was inexplicably kicked, looked up at Su Ning with a full face of grievance, mumbling unclear words repeatedly in his mouth, “Ning Bao… Bao… Ning Bao…”
“What is he… saying?”
“Probably even he himself doesn’t know, drunk and talking nonsense.”
Yan Bei, who heard it clearly, brushed it off ambiguously like this, the expression in his eyes gradually deepening, and the force under his foot didn’t hold back, actually increasing by several degrees.
“Whine~”
Fu Jiaming, with a big tongue, could only continue to complain with his eyes: Ning Bao Gai kicked me, kicked me, did you see?!
Seeing her still with a clueless look, Fu Jiaming suddenly sat up, quickly grabbing her wrist.
Su Ning, who discovered it was too late to dodge, boom, her mind involuntarily stopped working, only left with the scenes constantly flashing before her eyes—
[The night was deep, Fu Jiaming and Yan Bei sitting on the ox cart were chatting and laughing about something.
The person driving the cart in front suddenly spoke up, “What is this thing?”
Under the moonlight, they stopped the ox cart and only then saw clearly, sprawled blatantly in the middle of the road was a little black dog.
Strangely, no matter how the cart driver tried to shoo it, it lay motionless, as if deliberately not letting the ox cart pass.
Fu Jiaming felt this little guy was quite to his liking, he vaulted over the cart bed, walked up and grabbed its neck, ignoring the little dog’s continuous fierce barking and brought it onto the cart.
The ox cart started moving forward again, and the instant it turned the mountain road bend, a huge boulder rolled down from above without warning.
Yan Bei’s figure in Fu Jiaming’s shocked widened pupils grew closer and closer, until he and the dog were ruthlessly pushed off the cart and rolled several meters.
The massive rolling stones crashed down one after another, and he suddenly realized what had happened.
“Yan Qi… Yan Qi!”
Fu Jiaming’s eyes were bloodshot like a mad lion, sharp and piercing howls echoing through the entire mountain valley.
“Hoo~”
“Su Su… Ning… Ning Bao Gai, you… look!”
Still somewhat stunned by that blood-drenched scene and unable to recover, something soft and meaty was stuffed into her hand.
Su Ning instinctively looked down, all black, with only one paw having a tuft of white fur like a cloud.
Little black dog!!
“Woof woof woof~”
The hairs on her back immediately stood up, and like being electrocuted, she stood up, “Stop, stop the cart, stop the cart now!”
The extremely urgent, full of fear shouts in his ears made Su Jianmin unconsciously tighten the reins in his hand, trying to stop the big yellow ox.
Whether startled or from his excessive force, the big yellow ox mooed, its front hooves reared high, head tilted, and it plunged straight into the mountain ditch beside.
“Damn it!”
Fu Jiaming, sobered by this sudden scare, could only grab the back collar of Su Jianmin, who was closest to him.
Before the cart flipped into the ditch, he used all his strength to drag the person and roll to the other side.
“Careful!” “Watch out!”
Yan Bei, who also noticed something wrong, immediately reached out without hesitation, firmly gripping Su Ning’s hand as her body, due to inertia, was about to flip out of the cart bed backwards.
In the instant of being pulled out from the cart tail, completely instinctively, one arm wrapped around her waist, the other hand protected her nape, using his own body as a cushion.
After rolling several times and finally stopping, Yan Bei ignored the scrapes on his body, quickly helped her up, but before he could make the next move, she shoved him hard.
Yes, shoved!
Not collided, nor tackled.
A clear crack came from his chest, the sound of ribs fracturing with a muffled grunt.
“Boom——”
The instant the rolling rock hit the ground, it smashed a deep pit on the yellow mud road, and the shattered rock fragments scattered everywhere.
“Yan Qi! Su Ning!”
Fu Jiaming, full of mud on his face, had just climbed up from the ditch and poked half his body out, witnessing this perilous scene, and scrambled up the bank, running towards the two at his fastest speed.
Even though his ankle and knee hurt so much his face twisted, he showed no concern.
Su Ning, who had headbutted him into the rock wall, had countless stars bursting before her eyes, her fair full forehead swollen into a big lump.
One could imagine how much force she used in that moment of urgency.
She shook her head slightly, hands bracing against the rock wall, and only after the dizziness eased a bit did she lower her head to look at the person fallen between her and the rock wall.
“You, how are you, still alive?”
“Thanks for the care, still breathing. Pretty good.”
Only except two fractured ribs…
Yan Bei gazed at her perfectly sculpted jawline, eyes full of complexity: such a slender body, how did it erupt with such great strength?
“You…”
Before he could finish, Yan Bei’s brown-black pupils suddenly widened, his hands moving faster than his brain, catching her as she collapsed.
Just the spot on his cheek where her warm breath lingered felt like it was scalded by boiling water, red all the way to his ears and even neck.
“Yan Qi! Su Ning! Are you okay?”
“Cough~ I’m okay, Su Ning… she fainted.”
His voice sounded a bit hoarse, and speaking in pauses seemed very strenuous.
Fu Jiaming anxiously half-squatted, “Are you hurt? Where are you hurt? Why did Su Ning faint, was she hit?”
His mind was a mush, reactions slowed, and only now did he suddenly snap back.
Yan Bei carefully retracted his arms that had passed under her armpits, held straight to shield her entire body, and his tightly clenched fist opened, fingers gently pressing on her back.
When he felt large patches of warm sticky liquid under his hand, the look in his eyes changed abruptly, “How’s the ox cart? Can it still run?”
“The ox fell and broke its neck directly, can’t run. Why? Is Su Ning… badly hurt?”
“What to do? What to do now!”
Anxiously grabbing his hair twice, Fu Jiaming looked at the winding mountain road ahead with no end in sight.
He hammered his slightly trembling leg hard, gritted his teeth, “I’ll run back to get help!”
“I’ll go!”
Su Jianmin, who had arrived beside them at some point, face pale and still shaken, swallowed hard, gripped the flashlight in his hand and said.
“I know this road, I only hurt my arm and can run fast, the nearest First Brigade via the shortcut won’t take long!”
“Wait for me, I’ll bring people back soon!”
With that, Su Jianmin turned on the flashlight and dashed down the small path beside the mountain road, soon disappearing, only the beam of light swaying in the mountain forest visible.
“Fu Xiao Si what are you spacing out for, help!”
“Ah, oh oh, okay okay.”
“Be careful of her back, don’t touch it.”
Fu Jiaming nodded while carefully reaching out to take her over, slowly moving her out of Yan Bei’s embrace.
Away from the rock wall and tree shadows, under the moonlight, he finally saw her injury clearly.
Her entire back was embedded with rock fragments, blood and flesh mangled, clothes soaked into black-red.
When the rock rolled down, he had just climbed the ditch bank and saw clearly, if not for Su Ning tackling him down in time…
Even using her own back to block most of the gravel…
“Yan Qi oh Yan Qi, you must remember your life and this face of yours were both saved by Su Ning!”
