Chapter 170: Once I’m Standing High Enough, Can You See Me?
“I’ll listen to you, worshiped in both north and south directions, do you think it can come true?” Wei Jin’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Jiang Ning, waiting for her answer.
Jiang Ning gave him a speechless glance and joked, “Why don’t you just worship me directly? That way, you’d get the result faster.”
Hearing this, Wei Jin immediately started to kneel toward Jiang Ning: “Alright, as long as it works.”
Seeing he was serious, Jiang Ning quickly pulled him back: “Worshiping me won’t help. I don’t like you right now!”
“Why? If it’s because we’ve known each other for a short time, I can give you more time to understand me. I’ll really make a tremendous effort for you. If your father looks down on me, can you give me some time? I don’t have a good family background; all I have now is this youthful drive.” Wei Jin sighed helplessly.
He hated that at the most powerless age, he met the person he most wanted to keep.
He was only eighteen years old.
If he were twenty-eight, accomplished and famous, he would just take action instead of begging like now, hoping the girl he admired would wait for him.
The disparity in status was the executioner between them.
Jiang Ning gazed at him. She could feel Wei Jin’s longing, but her heart was small; once occupied by one person, others could only pass by.
“Wei Jin.” Jiang Ning’s red lips parted lightly, her voice soft: “Go like someone else, someone more worthy than me.”
Wei Jin gave a bitter smile.
Jiang Ning was like that.
Clearly an aloof young lady, yet she refused people so gently.
How could he not like such a wonderful person?
He sighed softly: “Jiang Ning, what would it take for me to be in your eyes?”
Jiang Ning fell silent. She couldn’t give Wei Jin an answer.
Wei Jin was also destined not to hear Jiang Ning’s answer.
He could only look at the vast sky, his murmuring voice scattering in the wind: “When I stand high enough, will you be able to see me?”
Jiang Ning bowed toward the golden Buddha and devoutly prayed for an opened peace talisman.
Wei Jin turned his head to look at her, then finally smiled: “Forget it, I accept liking you. I’m loyal once I set my sights on something. If you marry Xie Jingyan in the future, I’ll crash the wedding no matter what. Jiang Ning, liking you—even without reciprocation—I won’t regret it.”
Jiang Ning could no longer stay silent.
She could only say: “Wei Jin, no one can predict the future. On average, a person meets over twenty million people in a lifetime. Maybe your other half is waiting for you among those twenty million. I hope you can be happy.”
Jiang Ning didn’t doubt true heart, but could this true heart withstand the torrent of years and remain unchanged?
Jiang Ning had seen too many stories from initial love to eventual enmity.
Empty promises—Jiang Ning never believed in them.
But people should cherish the present first; always thinking about the future is exhausting.
Wei Jin said nothing in response to Jiang Ning’s words.
Instead, like Jiang Ning, he devoutly prayed for a peace talisman.
Jiang Ning prayed for one for the whole family.
Hoping this reportedly efficacious temple could truly bless people with safety.
Jiang Ning stood outside for a while before Xie Jingyan returned from the maple forest.
Seeing him, Jiang Ning asked curiously: “Where did you go?”
Xie Jingyan brushed the fallen leaves off his clothes and pointed to the maple forest: “Went for a stroll inside. Are you done?”
Jiang Ning puzzled: “You’re not getting one?”
Xie Jingyan shook his head: “Don’t believe in these things.”
If hardship was given by heaven, what use was praying to them?
Jiang Ning sighed and handed him three peace talismans: “Here, for you.”
Xie Jingyan was stunned for a moment; the red silk peace talisman tied with a bright yellow Chinese knot swayed before his eyes.
He pointed to himself: “For me?”
Jiang Ning nodded and smiled: “To be precise, one for you, Grandma Xie, and Xiao He. She’s having surgery after the New Year. Wishing her safe surgery—a peace talisman for good luck.”
Xie Jingyan reached out to take them.
They felt slightly cool in his hand; he slowly clenched his fingers and smiled at Jiang Ning: “Thanks.”
“Next month on the weekend, want to take leave and go to the capital city together?”
Jiang Ning tilted her head: “For what?”
Xie Jingyan: “To see Xiao He.”
Jiang Ning considered it and agreed.
Because the wig promised to Xiao He was ready, and she wanted to deliver it.
Then conveniently visit Meng Xingcan.
Xie Jingyan smiled, then looked toward the maple forest. Quite a few bodyguards in black clothes were hidden in that woods; though his face wore a smile, his eyes gradually turned deep and cold.
Lin Tinghe had still come.
Ever since he met Meng Su, he knew the series of problems that would arise after being discovered.
Disgust flashed in his eyes; thinking of past events made him feel nauseous.
Sometimes memories too clear were not a good thing.
After discovering he was being followed, Xie Jingyan went to the maple forest; those people indeed appeared and told Xie Jingyan that the Lin Family had secretly collected his hair and done a paternity test with Lin Tinghe, confirming he was Lin Tinghe’s own son.
Now Lin Tinghe was lying in a high-end sanatorium in the capital city receiving treatment. His kidneys were failing; he could only rely on special medicine to sustain his life, in extreme pain every day, regretting letting his son leave before, living in remorse every moment, sincerely wanting to see him once more to make up for regrets.
Hearing these words, Xie Jingyan wanted to laugh.
Would Lin Tinghe regret it?
His white moonlight abandoned him and went abroad for freedom, eloping and marrying a romantic manga artist, and gave birth to a daughter.
Three years later, she divorced, returned to the country with her daughter, and her daughter accidentally went missing in a shopping mall; from then on, she sought comfort from Lin Tinghe, begging him to help find her lifeline.
The white moonlight he loved but couldn’t have returned, and immediately sought his help; he began to waver, desire taking hold.
Making Lin Tinghe forget that when he was drinking himself into oblivion all night, it was Meng Qing who accompanied him.
When he was forced by the Lin Family to leave the company, it was Meng Qing helping him.
When he resisted the family and wanted to go abroad to find his white moonlight, it was Meng Qing covering for him.
When he returned from abroad disheartened, it was Meng Qing listening to his woes.
From then on, Lin Tinghe seemed to fall in love with Meng Qing.
He could no longer leave Meng Qing.
They loved for three years, married for five.
Eight years couldn’t compare to that woman’s return.
He forgot that in his most difficult times, Meng Qing stayed by his side unwaveringly.
Giving him all her love.
Loving to the end, the result was just like this.
Lin Tinghe wanted to give another woman a proper home.
Abandoning him and his mother.
Xie Jingyan would never forgive that man in his life, never set foot in the Lin Family.
Let alone go see him.
It seemed letting him see once was also fine.
He told the bodyguards to relay a message.
Next time he returned, it would be at Lin Tinghe’s funeral.
