Chapter 99: Rotten Shell And Warm Soul
Once the living room was left with only Jiang Ning and Madam Jiang.
Madam Jiang wanted to check Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning said, “I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt. It hit on my clothes, I wasn’t injured.”
Madam Jiang wiped her tears with her hand: “Why did you block for her?”
“Then tell me why you hit her.” Jiang Ning asked.
Madam Jiang was speechless and couldn’t give a proper answer.
“Since Older Sister didn’t do anything wrong, she shouldn’t be punished. She finally came home, so don’t drive her away, Mom.”
Madam Jiang’s heart twisted together, her expression somewhat painful: “I have no way to face her. Seeing her makes me think of your father’s affair, makes me think of your grandmother’s ugly face. I was locked in a room in the countryside, the old lady despised me for not giving birth to a son, and played the video of your father and that woman in bed outside the window every day, making me watch it twenty-four hours a day.”
“I… couldn’t control myself.”
For Madam Jiang’s ordeal, Jiang Ning felt heartbroken too.
The previous Father Jiang didn’t have such a big company. Madam Jiang was the young lady of the Sui Family. The Sui Family didn’t agree to her marriage, so she eloped with Father Jiang to his countryside hometown. At that time, she thought love could overcome all difficulties.
But she couldn’t withstand a domineering mother-in-law.
After learning that she would only give birth to one child in her life, she inquired everywhere about the gender of the fetus in her womb, and finally spent money to find out it was a daughter. She tried to persuade her, and when persuasion failed, in Madam Jiang’s late-stage pregnancy, she learned that her husband had an affair.
The reason was that their old Jiang Family wanted a son and couldn’t let the line end.
After Madam Jiang gave birth to Jiang Li, she was depressed all day long.
She knew she shouldn’t let her emotions affect the child.
But the mother-in-law scolded her harshly, saying because she didn’t give birth to a son, she couldn’t keep her husband’s heart.
In such an environment, Madam Jiang fell ill.
She hated her mother-in-law, hated her husband, and also hated her own daughter.
Later, the Sui Family took her back home.
Jiang Li was thrown to Father Jiang, and she left without taking anything.
It was Father Jiang who begged at the Sui Family’s entrance and knelt for three days before gaining Madam Jiang’s forgiveness.
Later, Old Master Sui also felt sorry for his daughter and had to hold his nose to acknowledge this son-in-law, investing a sum of money for Father Jiang to start a business. Father Jiang lived up to it, made the business very big, and since that incident, he only cared for the family and didn’t go anywhere, staying by Madam Jiang’s side.
The Sui Family gradually let go of their resentment toward him.
Later, Madam Jiang became pregnant again and gave birth to a pair of twins.
“Mom, I know facing the past again will be very painful for you, but it’s all in the past. Let’s look forward, okay? You’re not wrong, Older Sister isn’t wrong, Jiang Yan isn’t wrong. They are all children you carried for ten months, your closest family.” Jiang Ning held Madam Jiang’s hand: “Tomorrow we’ll go to the hospital for a check-up and take medicine, actively treat it, and it will get better. I hope you can treat them as well as you treat me.”
Madam Jiang stared blankly at Jiang Ning, tears unconsciously spilling from her eyes, her voice trembling: “Why…”
Jiang Ning hugged Madam Jiang, burying herself in her neck: “Because we are all Mom’s children. I hope besides me, Mom can gain two more unconditional loves.”
Madam Jiang’s lips moved: “But I… treated them like that, I…”
“Try to get along well, and you have to take medicine on time, actively treat it, and it will be fine.”
Madam Jiang looked up, seeing Jiang Ning’s earnest gaze, her mood complex, and finally agreed: “Okay.”
“Ning Ning.” Madam Jiang sighed, her voice tender: “You’ve changed a lot. Before, you only wanted Mom’s love all to yourself. Even if Jiang Yan was by my side, you would push him away.”
“Maybe because I’ve grown up and become greedy. I not only want Dad and Mom to love me, I also want Older Sister and Younger Brother to love me.” Jiang Ning smiled at Madam Jiang: “And also Maternal Grandfather and Maternal Grandmother, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin, Cousin. Too greedy, can’t even count them.”
Madam Jiang broke into a smile through her tears: “Little rascal, go upstairs to wash up and sleep. Tomorrow at the hospital… Let your older sister accompany me. You go to school and study well.”
“Mm, I’m going upstairs.”
Jiang Ning breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Madam Jiang was willing to accept Jiang Li, the stiff relationship between them still had a chance to turn around.
Jiang Ning went to the second floor and before reaching her room, she was blocked by Jiang Yan who had been waiting for a long time.
The youth had a tall and slender figure, a full head taller than Jiang Ning, but his body was thin, his hair a bit long, half covering his eyes, looking very down and decadent. But with a pretty face holding it up, he looked like a gloomy beautiful youth in need of redemption.
His Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice somewhat hoarse: “So in your heart… you’ve already acknowledged me and Older Sister?”
“Do you… need me too?”
His eyes slowly brightened, stubbornly seeking an answer, as if being affirmed and accepted by Jiang Ning was something worth being happy about for him.
Jiang Ning didn’t understand, her expression complex: “Could it be just because I saved you once, you can forget all the harm I brought you, Jiang Yan?”
Jiang Yan’s body stiffened, past painful memories flooding back.
Because of Jiang Ning’s willfulness, he often went hungry. She didn’t allow him to get close to Dad and Mom, taking away their love, selfish and domineering. She would often deliberately hurt herself, then watch him being hit and scolded by their mother. Jiang Yan’s childhood was spent in gloom and torment.
He had more than once thought why he had to be born into such a family that suffocated him.
He looked at Jiang Ning; her eyes were very clear, like a spring.
“You’re not her.” Jiang Yan said slowly. Seeing Jiang Ning’s brows relax, he spoke again, extremely certain: “You’re not that bad seed. She wouldn’t risk her life to save Sui Tang, wouldn’t come to the clubhouse to save me, wouldn’t rescue Jiang Li. She’s selfish, cowardly, bullies the weak, doesn’t have grades as good as yours, wouldn’t say such heartwarming words. She wished I would die… wouldn’t tell me to live well.”
Jiang Yan stared intently into Jiang Ning’s eyes: “If the original Jiang Ning was a rotten corpse, your appearance injected a warm soul into this body. Jiang Ning, if you had appeared earlier… could I have been a bit happier?”
Jiang Ning stared at him for a few seconds, then burst out laughing.
She reached out to touch his forehead, her tone casual: “Younger Brother, I think you’re crazy, saying such things. Go wash up and sleep.”
She waved her hand and calmly walked back to her room.
After closing the door, she immediately locked it.
“Holy crap, Little Honey, did he notice something? Will I be treated as a monster and burned by them?”
Jiang Ning patted her chest in panic. God knows how nervous she was—what corpse, what soul, did he have to say it so terrifyingly.
Little Honey: 【……】
It: 【Heh heh, knowing there would be a day of exposure, you still dare to be so reckless? Host, you collapsed your character setting long ago! Know why you haven’t been annihilated?】
Jiang Ning coughed lightly: “Because we’re good friends, right?”
Little Honey: 【……】
It would never be friends with Jiang Ning in this lifetime! It would be pissed to death!
