Chapter 94: Opportunity
Su Yaoguang smiled and said, “It’s settled then. Today is the opening, and it’s better to share the joy with everyone rather than enjoying it alone. Everyone should share in the good fortune. By the way, there’s a lantern festival tonight. Do you all want to go check it out?”
Jia Chunni looked at Zhang Pandi expectantly: “Mom, I want to go see it.”
Jia Chunni had never been to the city before growing up, let alone strolling through a night market.
Everyone had been busy with the opening during this time and couldn’t spare any time. She hadn’t gone out to play either. Now that the opening matters were settled, and there was a lantern festival tonight, of course they couldn’t miss it.
Zhang Pandi nodded: “Alright.”
Zhang Yingdi looked at Wang Huanzhi. Before she could speak, Wang Huanzhi took her hand and said, “We’ll go too.”
Zhang Zhaodi drained the wine in her cup: “You two go have fun. I’ll keep second sister and Chunni company.”
Jia Chunni looked at Su Yaoguang: “Cousin, what about you and your cousin-in-law?”
Su Yaoguang pointed at the red-faced, dazed young man beside her: “In his state, I can only take him back to rest.”
“What a shame, there’s a lantern festival tonight!” Jia Chunni said.
“No shame in it.” Zhang Zhaodi stood up. “This lantern festival lasts three days. If you miss today, you can see it tomorrow. Alright, it’s about time. Let’s go!”
“Just leave like this? Your cousin-in-law is still drunk. Let’s get him home first before we go!”
Su Yaoguang waved her hand: “You all go ahead. I’ll stay and take care of him.”
“Do you have more strength than your cousin?” Zhang Zhaodi asked. “Besides, each woman takes care of her own man. This is your cousin’s business. Don’t worry about it.”
Zhang Yingdi covered her mouth and chuckled softly.
Zhang Pandi also had a look of enjoying the show.
Su Yaoguang saw the ‘malicious intent’ in their eyes.
Come on, Wangshu wasn’t even fifteen yet, younger than her. What messy things were they thinking?
The others really stopped minding them. Su Yaoguang called the shop assistant to settle the bill, then gently shook Wangshu: “Wangshu, wake up. We’re going home.”
Wangshu made a sound like a kitten and mumbled, “Not going.”
“How about I carry you on my back?” Su Yaoguang said, pulling Wangshu to his feet, then squatting down to piggyback him.
She could have picked him up in her arms too, but she always felt that scene would look a bit weird.
In fact, carrying him out like this wasn’t normal either. She kept her head down as she walked, not noticing the strange looks from the people around them.
“Miss, do you need help?” A mild-mannered man stood in front of Su Yaoguang.
Su Yaoguang had no issue with the strength to carry such a big man, but Wangshu was too tall. Carrying him like this looked like a little bean sprout shouldering a small mountain.
She heard someone speaking and had to look up, but this viewpoint was also quite strenuous. After all, the mild-mannered man opposite her was very tall too, so she had to tilt her head up to look at him.
“No need. I’ll just carry him back like this,” Su Yaoguang said.
“Little boss’s wife, this is our owner,” the shop assistant introduced from the side.
“This young master has had too much to drink. It’s quite tiring for you to carry him like this. How about I arrange for a shop assistant to send you both back?” Restaurant owner Jiang Ziqian suggested.
Wangshu rubbed against Su Yaoguang’s neck, tickling her.
Su Yaoguang originally didn’t want to trouble others, but in this situation, it was more convenient to have someone send them.
“Then thank you, boss,” Su Yaoguang said. “No wonder business is booming with such generosity.”
“Here’s to the young lady’s good words,” Jiang Ziqian smiled.
The restaurant’s shop assistant quickly brought out a horse-drawn carriage, parked it properly, then carried Wangshu onto the carriage.
Su Yaoguang followed and got on. As soon as she sat down, Wangshu, who had been leaning against the carriage wall, immediately scooted over and rested his head on her shoulder.
“Urp…” He made a retching motion.
Su Yaoguang quickly covered his mouth with a handkerchief and said, “Vomit here…”
Wangshu hazily opened his eyes. Upon seeing Su Yaoguang, he pinched her cheek and said, “Why is the steamed bun talking?”
Su Yaoguang: “…So it’s true he can’t hold his liquor. Next time, not even half a cup of wine for you.”
Wangshu hugged Su Yaoguang and rubbed against her neck: “You smell so nice…”
Su Yaoguang felt like she was holding a fluffy big cat. He kept rubbing his hair against her, extremely itchy.
The horse-drawn carriage started moving.
Wangshu hugged tighter and tighter, then suddenly burst into tears.
“What’s wrong now?” Su Yaoguang had a headache.
“My throat feels so bad. Am I going to die?”
Su Yaoguang: “…Is it possible you drank liquor, it was too strong, and you’re not used to it?”
“Who are you?” Wangshu leaned close to Su Yaoguang, looking closely with dazed eyes.
“I’m your older sister,” Su Yaoguang said. Knowing his brain wasn’t clear now and he wouldn’t take in anything she said, she decided to tease him instead.
Looking at his soft and squishy state, he was really quite cute.
“Call me older sister,” Su Yaoguang said. “Come on, call out and let me hear it.”
“No.”
“Call older sister once, and I’ll give you silver to spend.” Su Yaoguang pulled out her money bag from her bosom and dangled it in front of him. “One call for one…”
Wangshu hugged her and shouted, “Older sister, older sister, older sister…”
Su Yaoguang: “…”
Was this real drunkenness or fake?
Wangshu shouted a long string of “older sister,” then held out his palm: “Fifty taels.”
Su Yaoguang rolled her eyes, pulled out a string of fifty copper coins, and stuffed it into his hand: “Here, fifty copper coins. You want fifty taels of silver? Why not go rob someone?”
Wangshu stared blankly at the fifty copper coins in his palm, tears welling up in his eyes.
Su Yaoguang was stunned: “What’s wrong with you now?”
Wangshu’s tears fell pattering down. He clutched the copper coins tightly and choked out, “I have money now. No need to go hungry. Thank you, older sister.”
Su Yaoguang: “…”
Why did she feel a bit heartbroken?
She stroked his hair: “Good boy. Older sister won’t let you go hungry in the future.”
Wangshu took one copper coin and bit it at the edge of his mouth.
Su Yaoguang stopped him: “What are you doing now?”
“Can’t bite it!” Wangshu glared with red eyes, accusingly looking at her. “It’s fake!”
Su Yaoguang: “…”
A stifled laugh came from outside the carriage.
Su Yaoguang suddenly felt even more embarrassed.
The shop assistant outside the carriage said, “Miss, don’t worry. Your younger brother gets a bit rowdy when drunk, but it’s actually pretty good. We’ve had a customer who loves to dance when drunk, even stripping while dancing; one who likes to recite poetry but hasn’t read many books, and the poetry is really unbearable; and some who like to practice boxing. In short, drunk customers come in all kinds. Your younger brother like this is quite cute.”
Su Yaoguang pressed her brow: “Yeah, quite cute.”
The shop assistant sent Su Yaoguang and Wangshu to the doorway, confirmed multiple times that she needed no further help, then drove the carriage away.
