Chapter 90: Grand Opening
When Peach Blossom Workshop opened, the lion dance team performed at the doorway for a long time, attracting many people over.
Su Yaoguang and the others were dressed exquisitely, each one smelling fragrant, with a basket in hand.
Those baskets contained trial size face cream or scented dew and the like; they gave them to any woman they saw without saying much, only that these were new products from their shop, and everyone could take them home to try.
The onlookers had originally worried they would be asked for money, but seeing they gave them out and left without lingering, they felt relieved.
“Neighbors and passing customers, Peach Blossom Workshop is opening today. Those interested can come take a look; everything purchased today is 30% off.” Su Yaoguang shouted loudly. “Starting tomorrow, prices return to original, so the opportunity is only today—everyone must not miss it!”
“Little boss, what flavor is the scented dew on you? Introduce it to me; I want to buy this one.” A exquisitely dressed woman stepped out from the crowd and said.
“Beautiful older sister, you really have a good eye. This scented dew of mine is hard to extract; just making it took a month, so stock is very limited. Once sold out, new products won’t be available for a month.”
“No wonder it smells so good; it’s such a rarity. Then I need to buy several bottles, or it’ll be gone once sold out.”
Hearing about the 30% discount today, others went in to take a look first regardless of buying.
When they stepped into Peach Blossom Workshop, the exquisite shop front brightened their eyes. The shop front was very large, with bottles of various colors dazzlingly displayed, and the air filled with enticing fragrance.
“If there are my old customers here, they should have seen me doing makeup for others on the street. Now that I have a shop front, this area is my dedicated makeup zone. For important occasions needing makeup and hair styling from me, you can still come find me. Just makeup is five copper coins per time as before. For makeup, hair styling, and clothing, prices vary by requirements.”
“Little boss, what’s upstairs? We want to go up and see.”
“Sorry, beautiful older sister, upstairs is not open to the public yet; only gold card customers from our shop can go up to select new products they like.”
“How does one become a gold card customer at your shop?”
“By buying things! As long as customers are willing, we register their information and record every purchase. Exceeding fifty taels of silver qualifies as gold card customer. After becoming our gold card customer, trial sizes of every new product come first; we’ll send someone to deliver to the customer’s home for trial. Gold card customers pick new products first. In short, gold card customers get more attention from us. For example, free skin analysis, custom nourishing products suited to their skin, and so on.”
“Fifty taels… that’s no small sum.”
“Boss, I want these few boxes.”
“Alright, I’ll wrap them up for you.” Zhaodi responded loudly.
Wang Huanzhi was the accountant today. He just needed to sit at the counter, greet customers Su Yaoguang and the others brought to checkout, record their information for data tracking.
Pandi and her daughter, along with Yingdi, were all greeting customers. Pandi, after dressing up, was a woman with lingering charm. Chunni was young and couldn’t wear exaggerated makeup; Su Yaoguang dressed her cutely and sweetly, like the neighbor girl everyone loved to tease. Yingdi was the youngest of the three sisters and also the prettiest. Now dressed up, she was like a girl in her sixteenth year.
Wang Huanzhi’s gaze always followed Yingdi’s direction. Especially after male customers entered the shop, his expression grew more tense. Su Yaoguang noticed Wang Huanzhi’s lack of focus and arranged Yingdi in the area next to him, having Yingdi serve the female customers and guide them to try various cosmetics.
Zhaodi wore a bright dress, fresh flowers pinned in her hair, beautiful cosmetics on her face, completely refreshed. When she smiled, her eye corners no longer drooped; she looked much younger.
“Daughter, teach me how to do this makeup another day. Once I learn, I won’t need your help; I can do it myself. Zhong Lanhua slathers on cosmetics all day, with men circling after her like flies—I see it’s nothing special! Great-granddaughter didn’t know how to dress up before, but now dressed up, she’s no worse than her. No, great-granddaughter is much prettier than her.”
“Yes, yes, Mother is the prettiest. Look at those aunties over there; they like Mother’s makeup and asked me to do it for them! If you want to learn, you can watch now.”
“Not today, too many people. In a few days when there are fewer, we’ll do it. No, spit spit, our customers will be many every day, never fewer. I’ll come learn when I have time another day.”
With the opening today and the 30% discount announced, there were indeed many customers.
After Su Yaoguang exchanged a few words with Zhaodi, they each went back to their tasks.
Each area had price tags; bottles of the same price were placed on the same shelf for easy customer distinction. Slightly more expensive ones weren’t displayed in large quantities; they’d restock once nearly sold out.
“Where’s the boss? Where’s the boss?” A clamoring voice came from the doorway.
Su Yaoguang heard the voice and went out. The Zhang family sisters wanted to follow Su Yaoguang but were stopped by her. She said with so many customers in the shop, they couldn’t neglect them, and more importantly, to guard against troublemakers.
“I’m the boss. Who are you?” Su Yaoguang stepped out, looking at the tall, sturdy man.
A woman stood beside the man, wearing a veiled hat. At that moment, the man removed the woman’s veiled hat, revealing her face covered in red rashes.
“My wife used your shop’s face cream and turned like this overnight. You still have the nerve to open a shop; your face cream not only fails to beautify women but disfigures them.”
“Heavens, this face cream can disfigure? I bought several boxes. Return goods, return them now.” A nearby woman exclaimed.
“Auntie, please calm down; let us first ask about what happened.” After Su Yaoguang spoke, she looked at the man. “You say your wife used our face cream—where is it?”
The man pulled a bottle from his bosom, with “Peach Blossom” written on it.
“Do you know when you bought this bottle of face cream and whose name was registered?” Su Yaoguang said. “We didn’t have a shop before; we asked the ready-to-wear clothing shop’s Chun E, the shop owner, to sell on our behalf. The shop owner is honest and records every sale with the customer’s name. You say it’s from our shop, so of course we must trace the source to verify authenticity.”
