Chapter 4: Meeting
Jiang Yang’s reaction evidently surprised Gu Changshan.
He had originally thought that talking with someone like Jiang Yang, who was surrounded by mystery in every way, would be very difficult.
But after Jiang Yang began recounting, he immediately got into the state, and his expression became increasingly solemn.
Jiang Yang didn’t pause at all and directly revealed everything he knew.
After finally finishing recounting all this, Jiang Yang asked: “That’s how things are. What do you plan to do? Is there anything you need me to do?”
Gu Changshan fell into silence, and only after a long while did he say: “If possible, please come with me to another meeting room. There are some other people who have questions they want to ask you.”
“Okay. But… I haven’t eaten breakfast yet. Can you let me eat first before questioning?”
Gu Changshan’s mouth twitched slightly, and he immediately stood up, solemnly saying: “Sorry, Comrade Jiang Yang, this is our work mistake.”
“It’s fine.”
Gu Changshan shook his head: “At this stage, you are the most important person in our entire nation, bar none. Please rest assured, similar errors will certainly not happen again in the future.”
Jiang Yang smiled awkwardly.
A breakfast was quickly brought over. Jiang Yang wolfed it down in no time and followed Gu Changshan to another meeting room that was clearly much more spacious.
Several dozen people in uniforms were already seated at the conference table.
“These are members of the strategic intelligence team.”
After a simple introduction, Gu Changshan shut his mouth.
Organizing his thoughts, Jiang Yang prepared himself mentally to answer any questions.
His principle was very simple: answer every question and cooperate fully, nothing more.
The questions from the strategic intelligence team members were very detailed, down to what breakfast Jiang Yang ate on a certain day in the cycle, how many times he used the toilet, whether his body felt uncomfortable anywhere, and even the same question would be asked in different ways from multiple angles repeatedly.
It wasn’t until noon that Jiang Yang got two hours of rest time. In the afternoon, Jiang Yang did not undergo questioning but instead, led by Gu Changshan, began various body examinations.
This situation lasted a full two days. It wasn’t until nine o’clock in the evening of the second day, after finishing the last body examination, that Gu Changshan found Jiang Yang.
“The information collection and verification stage is over. Tonight we will work overnight to organize this information. Tomorrow morning there will be a high-level meeting, at which time we will determine the next response plan.”
Jiang Yang nodded silently.
This moment was already the sixth night after the cycle began. In four more days, the apocalypse would arrive.
It seemed like two days had been wasted, but he understood this was necessary.
National actions are of utmost importance and must be handled with extreme caution; only after repeated verification and consideration can the final decision on execution be made.
To hold a high-level meeting immediately after just one and a half days of information collection stage to determine the next action plan was already an unimaginably high efficiency that really could not be demanded more from.
On the morning of the seventh day, Jiang Yang got up and went to the canteen to eat breakfast by himself—these two days had allowed him to roughly familiarize himself with the layout of this underground base, so he no longer needed someone to lead him.
No one came to question him or check his body anymore, and Jiang Yang, suddenly idle, felt slightly unaccustomed.
He knew that in a place he didn’t know about, that high-level meeting should have already begun.
The result of this meeting would most likely decide his fate, as well as the future fate of the entire nation and entire civilization.
Before the result came out, he could only wait.
Returning to his room and lying down for a moment, Jiang Yang picked up the walkie-talkie: “Comrade, can you give me a computer? One that can connect to the network to play games.”
A reply came from the walkie-talkie: “Please wait a moment, it will be delivered immediately.”
In just a few minutes, a laptop with keyboard and mouse was delivered.
“Thanks.”
Casting aside other thoughts, Jiang Yang directly entered the game world.
Better seize the time to enjoy life a bit.
……
Tianhua University, in the classroom.
An elder with white hair was holding chalk and writing something on the blackboard, his aged and wise voice transmitted through the earphone to the entire classroom, into the ears of dozens of students listening attentively: “The core idea of condensed matter physics is…”
The classroom door suddenly opened, and a young man hurried past under the elder’s dissatisfied gaze, leaning in to whisper something.
The elder’s expression suddenly became solemn: “Classmates, please study on your own for this class.”
Then he followed the young man out of the classroom, leaving only the students looking at each other in bewilderment.
In a laboratory filled with rock specimens, a middle-aged man was intently observing the cross-sectional structure of a rock through a microscope.
The mobile phone rang.
“Who is this?”
Muttering somewhat dissatisfied, he picked up the mobile phone, and after seeing the number displayed on it, the dissatisfaction on his face instantly vanished, replaced by utmost solemnity.
Pressing the answer key, a voice immediately came through: “Hello Professor Lu, there is now an emergency meeting that requires your participation. Please arrive at the confidential meeting room of your research institute within five minutes and log into channel 6652 to wait for subsequent arrangement.”
“Yes.”
Dropping the rock specimen, without even taking off his white coat, Professor Lu ran all the way to the confidential meeting room.
Luoxia Mountain Meteorology Research Institute, a plump, rosy-faced middle-aged man was surrounded by a group of young people, pointing at a weather picture and explaining something.
A staff member ran in hurriedly, looked around left and right, found the middle-aged man’s figure, and immediately rushed over.
“Little Wang, what are you panicking for!”
The middle-aged man scolded, and the young man called Little Wang, panting: “Your phone!”
Taking the phone somewhat dissatisfied, the dissatisfaction on the middle-aged man’s face melted away like ice and snow, instantly becoming solemn: “Yes! I’ll be right there!”
Hurrying to the confidential meeting room, turning on the computer, and logging into the specified network meeting channel, the middle-aged man saw many figures on the screen.
He didn’t recognize those people, but vaguely felt they were somewhat familiar. Thinking slightly, he immediately reacted.
He had seen these people more than once on news reports!
There were dozens of experts and scholars attending the meeting, and each expert was a renowned figure in their respective field, veritable leaders!
Moreover, the attendees were not just these. He saw that under each expert’s name there was a different group, such as physics group, psychology group, medical group, geology group, astronomy group, and his own meteorology group, etc.
Under each small group there were more names, but those attendees did not have the qualification to show their images in the meeting room, only a name.
And even these who could show images, the veritable leaders in their respective fields, could only occupy a small window in the network meeting room at this moment. The central window was still black, clearly that most core attendee had not come online yet.
The middle-aged man’s heart gradually became solemn.
