Chapter 6: Summon Ghosts
What did she see?
Lu Jinzhao, standing at the alley entrance, carefully stared at Cen Duo in the alley, who was maintaining the head-down position.
One second, two seconds, three seconds, four seconds, five seconds.
Six seconds! Seven seconds! Eight seconds!
Cen Duo didn’t move.
Until a full twenty seconds had passed, that stiff inverted figure finally swayed unnaturally, as if unable to control her limbs after prolonged blood rush to the brain from the position, and somewhat difficultly stood up straight again.
The people at the alley entrance were still observing, no one spoke, and no one called out Cen Duo’s name.
Until Cen Duo picked up the incense and candles stuck in the ground and walked out, everyone saw that she was no different from before she went in, and only then did they relax and ask:
“Why did you look for so long just now?”
Cen Duo was stunned upon hearing this: “Was it long?”
“Anyway, not short. Did you see something?”
The incense and candles were held in her hand, her expression was dazed for an instant, as if recalling the scene she saw after her nasal cavity was filled with the smell of incense and candles just now, a bit of fear appeared on her face, and she slowly opened her mouth to reply:
“.I seemed to see many shadows, the wall surface disappeared, turning into a road, there were many shadows on that road, I saw them, and they saw me too.”
Cen Duo’s voice suddenly paused, lingering for a few seconds, then continued: “I was scared at the time, I never thought I would really see those things, my brain went blank.”
“Maybe after a while, I remembered the words in the book, and hurried to stand up.”
Something’s not right.
Lu Jinzhao looked at Cen Duo’s expression that still carried a bit of terror, it indeed looked like the expression one should have after encountering a supernatural event, but something was off.
Cen Duo’s account was very simple, just a few sentences covering her encounter just now. In fact, her see a ghost ritual was also very short, everyone saw the whole process, and her statement seemed to have no issues.
But Lu Jinzhao thought Cen Duo was lying.
At least, she didn’t tell the full truth.
She deliberately used brief language to gloss over it, not elaborating details, even vaguely describing her feelings at the time just as being scared.
Could she have seen something she couldn’t say out loud?
A full twenty seconds, and the result was just seeing shadows, getting scared, and that was it?
How is that possible!
Lin Shuyue is still trapped in that room to this day.
Not right, absolutely not right.
Cen Duo saw shadows, the shadows saw her too, but did she really stand up in time?
Those passing passengers, did any of them take her as a newborn baby and “reincarnate” onto her?
No one knows.
Lu Jinzhao kept sounding the alarm in her heart, and when heading to the next see a ghost location, she deliberately walked at the end, staying away from Cen Duo.
Besides her, Jiang Yingzhi did the same.
“You’re quite sharp.” At the very end, Jiang Yingzhi said in a low voice.
Her emotion was quite low, which wasn’t strange; anyone in the group who drew her lot wouldn’t feel better than her.
Lu Jinzhao didn’t reply to her immediately, and Jiang Yingzhi didn’t intend to hear her answer, just leaving last words as she said to Lu Jinzhao: “In this instance, it’s best to stay away from her.”
“If you see Lin Shuyue later, and she comes out alive but is about to die, you can stay a bit longer. She has something on her, very good, if you can save her life in exchange for getting that thing, best to do it.”
“If you can’t save her, still try to get the thing.”
The more Lu Jinzhao listened, the more off it felt, so she interrupted Jiang Yingzhi and asked: “Why tell me these things?”
This didn’t match the “passengers have no friendship, only self-preservation” she had been emphasizing.
“Because I’m probably going to die.” Jiang Yingzhi looked up at Lu Jinzhao.
“If I had a chance to live, I wouldn’t tell you these, but since I’m going to die, I’ll do a good deed before dying.”
“Although I don’t know why I’m encountering these either.”
No matter how she thought, Jiang Yingzhi didn’t know how she could leave here alive.
She was just an ordinary passenger who had experienced two platforms, not even that senior, and the only one who might help her, Lin Shuyue with whom she had some rapport, was trapped inside the room.
She was already desperate.
Before dying, she didn’t mind revealing some information to Lu Jinzhao, who she found somewhat pleasing.
Lu Jinzhao looked at her and asked: “If later you don’t die, and I encounter danger, would you save me?”
Jiang Yingzhi blinked: “Probably not, although I’m going to die, I still have no intention of self-sacrifice.”
“Then if.” Lu Jinzhao stopped her steps, turned to look at Jiang Yingzhi, her expression no longer the previous gentle and harmless one, but calm, her tone not high-pitched, yet carrying an indescribable certainty.
“I say, I have a method that can help you complete the mission?”
“What would you be willing to pay for this method?”
Jiang Yingzhi was stunned, her expression frozen for several seconds, before speaking somewhat dazedly: “You say… what?”
Then suddenly becoming urgent: “You have a method?”
“What method?!”
“Not a good method.” Lu Jinzhao’s expression showed no change: “But it’s still a method.”
“Whatever the cost… is fine, as long as I can complete the mission, not making me die, anything else, I can listen to you.”
Giving hope of life to someone in despair, what can they do for you?
Lu Jinzhao was witnessing it now.
But she wouldn’t believe it immediately, instead asking: “How should I believe you won’t deceive me or go back on your word?”
Jiang Yingzhi hesitated, then took out her train ticket.
“Normally, train tickets don’t get lost and can’t be robbed, but giving it away yourself is an exception.”
“Of course, getting someone else’s train ticket won’t have any other use, the only thing you can do is…”
“Tear it up.”
Lu Jinzhao understood.
“However, after returning to the train, you have to give the train ticket back to me.” Jiang Yingzhi hesitated, then said: “For future platforms if we’re assigned together again, within the bottom line, I can also listen to you, but you can’t keep the train ticket forever.”
Lu Jinzhao could understand: “Then that’s it.”
Taking the train ticket, under Jiang Yingzhi’s eager gaze, Lu Jinzhao looked toward the roadside.
Chinatown’s layout wasn’t complex, the road they walked was the same as when they came, and Lu Jinzhao had observed it back then.
At this moment, Chinatown had more lights on than when they came, yet the street didn’t become brighter because of these lights.
Lu Jinzhao’s voice in the hazy environment also became deep: “Pregnant woman, what does it refer to?”
“A woman carrying life.”
“To complete this mission, don’t you just need to have a life in you?”
Jiang Yingzhi frowned, her expression shocked and uncertain: “I don’t understand what you mean, I can’t possibly get pregnant in a short time…”
Lu Jinzhao’s gaze skipped over her, looking to the street side: “Why does it have to be your own?”
There was a litter of puppies just born from stray dogs, looking spirited.
Jiang Yingzhi’s gaze followed Lu Jinzhao’s over, then she heard the girl’s light, emotionless voice.
“As long as you have a pup in your womb, aren’t you pregnant?”
