Chapter 89: Field Training – Kill Two Birds With One Stone
After capturing the first batch of people, Xiang Chuan still thought that the kids in the class who had tasted fresh things (actually ancient strategies) would not be able to resist immediately starting to plan the second wave of offense, but by the time her group finished lunch slowly while chatting idly, it was almost time for afternoon tea, and most people in the class were still staying in the camp, either chatting or going to tease the captives from Class Ten’s patrol squad.
Xiang Chuan walked out of the tent and curiously looked around, discovering that the Class President was leading a few people gesturing something at a distance from the tent, then a few people took fixing devices, pulled a very long distance, fiddled up and down for a long time, and set up several super-large tents almost four times the size of an ordinary tent. If it weren’t for the rocks around forming a natural barrier, this tent would probably be the most conspicuous landmark in the vicinity.
“What are they doing?” Xiang Chuan thought they were going to move things inside and use it as a warehouse, but the Class President and others started taking some strange instruments and drumming around something in the surroundings.
“Probably making a tent for captives.” Ainuo said while passing by with juice. He looked at that tent and frowned: “This tent, how many captives do they want to put in?”
“Does it need to be moved over there? Wouldn’t it be fine to just set up a rain shelter or something right here in the middle? It would also be convenient for everyone to watch them together.” Xiang Chuan gestured with both hands. This look seemed somewhat adorably silly in the eyes of Class Eight people, but to the Class Ten squad sitting on the ground, it sounded like some devil’s true words.
“Not only for rain protection, but also for insect prevention and such. I remember the training information from school mentioned it: there are many bugs in the forest, and tents with insect-proof functions are needed. Did you not read the information?” Ainuo narrowed his eyes.
“Hahaha, I did read it.” But she didn’t see the part about tent introductions. She didn’t say this out loud, but from Ainuo’s familiar idiot-look, it was clear he understood her implication.
“The captive tent is to prevent students from other classes who become our captives from being bitten by bugs and causing physical abnormalities, and also to make management convenient. Otherwise, we’d have to take turns feeding them every day.” Ainuo decided to give up complaining. He felt it was too wasteful to complain one by one every time their Leader made an idiotic statement, so he continued explaining the large tent being constructed to her. “After putting the defeated students into the captive tent, the authentication barrier around the tent will automatically restrict their freedom, and also restrict their terminal functions, only preserving the emergency contact function just in case.”
I see. Xiang Chuan nodded: “Then this is indeed a good thing. We just need to prepare some food for them by then. But what about washing up and… uh… defecating?”
“If we’re lucky, we directly attack their base, then we can confiscate their washing supplies and distribute them to the captives. If we’re unlucky and make no progress, then we’ll have to make do with deodorizing gel to wipe their bodies. As for the issue of bowel movements, that’s not something we need to consider.” Ainuo shrugged indifferently and drilled back into his tent.
So that means they have to handle their own bowel movements, right? Xiang Chuan looked at the Class Ten squad with pity, then prepared to turn back to the tent.
At this moment, a commotion came from the camp entrance. Turning to look, it turned out that the group from the class’s sports club had returned with two or three girls. Several people walked in laughing and talking, as if they had just been playing in the forest rather than going out on patrol.
“You’re back.” The Class President quickly walked over from the captive tent where the barrier was being constructed, saw the full smile on the leader’s face, had an idea in his mind, and couldn’t help but be happy: “All set up?”
“Yes, Class President.” The Leader said somewhat excitedly, “We just perfectly deceived everyone on both sides, so Class Ten exposed quite a few flaws while advancing. If you and Mandy hadn’t repeatedly instructed us not to act, we would have been unable to resist capturing a few more captives back then.”
“As long as you held back, it’s fine.” The Class President smiled and patted his shoulder, “If we acted, there’s a high chance the opponent would detect our presence. Then even if the two sides pull at each other, they would free up energy to deal with us. As long as we stay out of it, they will focus all their energy on each other, and then our ‘using the enemy to kill the enemy’ will be complete.”
“Killing?!” The Class Ten squad’s faces changed upon hearing this, and the Leader couldn’t help but roar angrily: “The Class Competition doesn’t allow taking lives! This is against the rules.”
“Don’t worry about that. The killing we mean isn’t real killing, just finding you some company.” The Class President smiled at them, but this smile was different from the joy when welcoming back the exploration squad earlier. Xiang Chuan saw a bit of black-hearted feeling in it.
Weren’t modern people supposed to be simple and easy to deceive? Well, actually not really.
“Alright, since you’re back, let’s eat something first. When setting off in the afternoon, do as Mandy and I said before. Remember, absolutely do not act too early.” The Class President said seriously.
“Understood.” The Leader nodded vigorously several times in a row, so fast that Xiang Chuan felt this boy would nod himself dizzy.
When afternoon tea time arrived, of course, in the wilderness, it wasn’t possible to casually pull out a pot of royal black tea or a tea set like in animations or novels and start an elegant young lady tea party.
First of all, no oven to make so many tea pastries. Xiang Chuan bit her straw and resentfully thought.
So afternoon tea turned into everyone taking beverages for a walk in the afternoon, while conveniently patrolling the surroundings.
When preparing to set off, she happened to see the male classmate who led the patrol earlier now leading at least twenty people preparing to depart. Xiang Chuan was stunned and quietly approached the Class President who was standing at the back watching everyone leave, asking softly:
“Is this some big preparation? Should I go take a look too?”
Hearing this, the Class President fell into thought, then mentally reviewed this classmate who had been full of topics from the start of school until now, agile enough to shuttle freely between classroom tables and chairs, but whose brain sometimes blanked out as if lacking common sense. Ten seconds later, he reached a conclusion in his mind. He showed a smile that could even be called kindly (Xiang Chuan: Who knows why I see a kindly feeling on a sixteen-year-old kid’s face), patted Xiang Chuan’s shoulder, and said: “Nothing major. Everyone’s just going for a more in-depth terrain survey. Classmate Xiang Chuan, you should continue with your walk plan.”
Xiang Chuan was baffled, but Ouyang Yating and Liang Gong beside her understood. The two each grabbed one of Xiang Chuan’s arms and started the planned afternoon fruit milk walk.
After seeing the six people disappear into the woods, the Class President finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It wasn’t that the Class President excluded Xiang Chuan, but this one really had too many uncertain factors. If he really included her in the team, the Class President wouldn’t even know if their plan could succeed.
Plus, in that morning action, the Class President and others realized they had put too many people into a small strategy, so after lunch at noon, they made detailed adjustments to the numbers and finalized the final list.
The Class President moved his somewhat stiff neck, looked toward the captive tent by the riverside, and smiled: Next, there would be a good show to watch.
Fighting is impossible. Why would they let the cook go to tower? Fighting should be left to others. Xiang Chuan just needs to take care of herself.
