Chapter 90: After Scattering
It was clear that the farm’s interior had been meticulously maintained by its owner before Doomsday.
In front of the white wooden house was laid turf, along with flower pots and frames; the wooden house had a standard pastoral style.
However, due to long-term neglect, it now appeared somewhat broken and dirty.
The turf in the yard had been overtaken by various wild grass, the white paint on the wooden house had turned black, cracked, and peeled off, the solid wood window glass was shattered and casually nailed over with wooden boards, and the lace curtains in the second floor rooms were also filthy, stained with large patches of stains.
The main house was for living in; the door seemed not fully closed, faintly revealing cluttered furniture inside.
Unknown if there were mutants lurking inside the house.
Yu Jiang glanced at the medicinal use plants under the first floor outer balcony of the main house, but still followed the plan and went to the single-story small wooden house first.
The single-story wooden house was located to the right of the main house, very much like a workroom or storage layout.
Behind it was a blue sheet metal house, and a well; it should belong to the breeding and granary area, where the ground was repaired with cement, with clear divisions.
The door lock on the single-story wooden house was a bit damaged; with a little force, it could be opened, but the sound of the metal door lock being twisted, in the quiet and dangerous farm, sounded heart-pounding.
Yu Jiang unconsciously held her breath, placed her right hand on her waist, and drew the bayonet; she had asked Sixth Brother Blacksmith to help make a lightweight sheath, precisely to prevent not having time to take a weapon from the space grid in emergencies.
Yu Jiang slightly bent her body and cautiously walked inside.
Clang!
Unintentionally, her shoe tip kicked over an empty can; her back instantly chilled, Yu Jiang slowly lifted her foot and retreated, her gaze looking toward the door and window directions.
Nothing happened; she had just breathed a sigh of relief when she saw a simple warning device made of cans strung up with rope by the window, her expression becoming more grave.
Inside the single-story wooden house were a shaking old table, scattered wood stumps, and lots of various clutter; looking at the hanging board on the wall, there should have originally been quite a few tools here.
On the ground were two barrels for diesel, unfortunately both empty inside; Yu Jiang took the barrels away.
Take them first, throw them away later if space grids run out.
On the table by the window, Yu Jiang found a somewhat discolored photograph.
The photograph showed two children about ten years old, dressed cleanly with bright smiles; they should be the children of the original farm owner.
She put down the photograph and continued walking inside, finding a resting room with a single resting bed; trash was everywhere, probably due to the long time passed, now with no peculiar smell.
Yu Jiang quickly took off her cotton clothes and down vest, putting on a T-shirt with 5 points of defense that she brought herself.
It was also at this moment that mutant cries suddenly sounded outside.
Two unseen mutants, one tall and one short, were saying something unknown; nearby was a two-wheeled hand-push cart.
The tall one was carrying a limp, blood-soaked corpse, threw it onto the cart, and pushed it toward the sheet metal house in the back.
Judging by the clothing, wasn’t it Player No. 9!
From the moment the instance started, these monsters had targeted them! Even without entering the farm, mutants would go to the bus.
Yu Jiang sped up putting on her clothes; the skinny mutant was walking this way holding something.
Soon, the sound of the door lock turning rang out; she had already put on her cotton clothes, but this house had no other exits.
Under the bed? No, too much clutter nearby, too much movement to hide into.
Footsteps getting closer, seemingly carrying a strong bloody smell.
In desperation, Yu Jiang crawled under the table opposite the single resting bed, covered by a floral print tablecloth.
This position was quite uncomfortable and a bit cramped, but no choice; it wasn’t that she didn’t want to go out and earn kill rewards.
This mutant only seemed somewhat weak standing among its kind, not weak in front of human players.
Besides, it had companions nearby; unless she could kill it with one stab, being trapped in the wooden house would not end well for her!
Through the gap in the tablecloth, Yu Jiang saw a pair of peeling shoes stop beside her; a black sledgehammer was leaning against the table, still with undried bloodstains, unknown which player’s it belonged to.
Up close, the uneven skin exposed under the mutant’s frayed trouser legs, covered in bark-like scales, was clearly visible.
A faint stench mixed in the air, this smell like dead rat.
The unevenness looked like wounds; had the mutant once used the method of digging out scales alive to save itself?
Before becoming monsters in the game, they should have been the original residents here.
Before Yu Jiang could think further, she saw the mutant’s movement; in an instant, her entire back stiffened, and her grip on the bayonet tightened.
The mutant squatted down, rummaging for something in the cabinet; this angle, a slight turn of the head, and it could see her.
And at this moment, under the table, Yu Jiang saw a small piece of bone, a finger, already dried and shrunken by the wind, but by size, it still didn’t seem like an adult’s.
Outside, a pile of messy tools was pulled out; the mutant selected for a while, taking out a fairly good rope and a saw.
Due to facial deformation affecting its field of vision, the mutant didn’t see Yu Jiang, and left grinning with the things, seemingly still angry at being scolded by its companion earlier.
Yu Jiang didn’t dare relax, fearing a sudden backstab, until the lock clicked and the footsteps completely disappeared.
Currently, the known small mutants in the farm numbered 6, the strongest being the meteor hammer one, which the cellar couldn’t trap for long.
The instance channel had messages, sent by Player No. 8.
[I’m injured, location about 200 meters from the white main house front gate of the farm, anyone come save me, will pay!]
Then, she sent a message, [What’s the situation in the farm? Where are you all? At least say something!]
Looking at the player list, the team that entered the farm first had no black numbers; clearly all still alive, not even willing to give a reminder!
No. 5 Lingering Fear: [Hurry find a place to hide, we encountered mutants, can’t beat them at all, too terrifying! Big Sister No. 2 just got shot in the leg with an arrow, don’t know how she is now.]
No. 3 Leather Jacket: [What’s going on over there? Where’s No. 7?]
No. 8 replied: [I don’t know, he fell into a trap pit, mutants chased over, I could only hide first; I saw him get caught, number is lit, still alive. Have you all gone in? Found any hiding places?]
Lingering Fear: [No, nowhere here is safe! That group of idiots is searching everywhere for us!]
Even if found now, they wouldn’t say; everyone is on the same camp sure, but who can guarantee that sharing hiding places won’t bring danger from others?
Going out to save people is even more impossible; finally sneaked into the farm, crossing the fence again, with mutants outside searching for them.
No. 8 herself didn’t save No. 7, totally normal.
Big Sister No. 2: [I’m hiding here not daring to move; how about everyone share the terrain and mutant positions they know? This way we avoid them, higher survival chance.]
Uncle No. 10: [Sounds good, unity is the truth!]
No. 4 Lingering Fear: [I agree.]
No. 1 Yu Jiang: [Okay.]
That’s what they say, but she didn’t dare truly believe the positions reported by these companions; what if it’s to lure others out to attract monster attention?
Will add farm pictures later~
