Chapter 29: It’s All That Lazy Dragonair’s Fault
The furnishings and layout in the room were rare in that they completely matched the photos in the brochure, with no discrepancies between the pictures and reality.
Double bed, wardrobe, desk, bookshelf, vanity, bathroom, and shower room—all fully equipped. Moreover, considering there might be larger Pokémon, the shower room was very user-friendly, spacious, bright, and comfortable. It was definitely worlds apart from the setup at his home, but compared to the training ground during military training back on Earth, calling this place paradise wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
The room had great lighting and even featured a balcony, with a washing machine, dryer, and clothes rack in the corner.
Perhaps also considering larger Pokémon and Grass-type Pokémon, the balcony was quite spacious, suitable for activities or storing miscellaneous items.
For Li Wei, on the rare rest day when he didn’t want to go out, there was now a place for Riolu to practice Tai Chi and absorb spiritual energy from heaven and earth… to sense the aura between heaven and earth.
Opening the suitcase, Li Wei prepared to first unpack his clothes and other items into the cabinet and shelves.
As for why he was unpacking, one reason was for convenience in daily life, but the most important was that someone would come to inspect.
The schedule received upon registration clearly stated that at 3 p.m., they needed to gather at the designated training ground, and during this time, dedicated staff would come to check the room.
The requirements weren’t high, but at the very least, it needed to be clean and tidy.
Although the guardian Pokémon could help tidy up, this set of regulations almost identical to military training made Li Wei, who had severe psychological trauma from it, very anxious.
Based on this panic, he decided to be a good kid.
The items in the suitcase were much more numerous than he had imagined.
Just his clothes alone totaled eight sets.
Casual wear, sportswear, suits, plus matching shoes, hats, backpacks, and so on—while hanging the clothes in the wardrobe, Li Wei felt like he was a big star.
“No good, I still need to adapt quickly to this damn rich lifestyle~”
After sighing with emotion, Li Wei, guided by Dragonair’s tail, took out the foldable storage box that Mime Jr. had prepared in advance from the suitcase.
He sorted and stored his socks, boxer briefs, gloves, and other small items neatly, placing them in the cabinet.
It had to be said, this stay-at-home main pet had some real skills when it came to tidying up.
It felt just like the time his mom helped pack his suitcase for his first military training trip.
Looking at the neat wardrobe, Li Wei’s old OCD was simply ecstatic.
Apart from his own clothes, everything else in the suitcase belonged to the Pokémon.
Eevee required a lot of items, and they were quite miscellaneous.
Art supplies and sketchbooks, the new magazine issue she had been longing for, the Louis Vuitton limited-edition silk scarf she insisted he buy recently—supposedly the fabric contained powerful Normal-type attribute energy.
Of course, Li Wei didn’t understand, but if Eevee said it helped improve her strength, then it did.
Besides that, there were various hair care lotions and matching “nutritional supplements.”
For this, Li Wei could only comment, “Fancy nonsense.”
After all, this was Eevee’s only hobby—what could he do?
It’s not like they couldn’t afford it at home, so he just had to buy it for her???
The reason for such generosity was mainly thanks to the money coming from his mother.
The items Riolu wanted to bring were ones he really liked: small sports equipment, New Flower Dictionary, Lu Xun’s essays, and doctor-recommended calcium tablets and vitamins, and so on.
Look at that—what’s the difference? What’s awareness?
Thinking this way, Li Wei unhesitatingly expressed his disdain toward Eevee.
But Eevee had long since dismissed it.
She was already a mature Eevee, with her own understanding and judgment.
From the stories Li Wei told, Eevee had grasped one truth—being bad at Pokémon battles was the original sin.
In other words, as long as she trained hard enough to battle Riolu on even terms, she would have the reason and capital to goof off and spend freely.
So at this moment, with her energy reserves full, Eevee wasn’t worried at all. She happily wagged her tail, hopping around to explore the dormitory they would live in for the next half month, completely ignoring the weakling Li Wei’s shouts and roars.
Dragonair’s items were rather quirky.
Succulent plants?
Chocolate and strawberry-flavored cereal?
And a frisbee and volleyball??
Why was this tool dragon so… cute??
Li Wei twitched his mouth, a bit helpless.
He admitted that in that instant, he was charmed by Dragonair.
A 4.2-meter Dragonair actually tended to succulent plants less than 4.2 centimeters tall every day?!
Its favorite foods were actually chocolate and strawberry-flavored?
Such a huge dragon, yet it had to carry little toys when going out???
Silently sighing, Li Wei reached out to pet the head of Dragonair, still coiled around him.
Probably, this kid was bullied too harshly by the older brothers during its Mini Dragon days. Finally out on a long trip to enjoy, it brought food, drinks, and toys like a three-year-old…
What was with this inexplicable girly heart and childlike mindset??
Li Wei sighed, quietly turning on the air conditioner, unable to bear coaxing this 4.2-meter big kid off him.
Anyway, with Dragonair coiled like this, it didn’t hinder his normal movement, so let it stay coiled…
After all, he, Li Wei, was always super gentle.
Carrying the massive burden, after placing toiletries, skincare, hairdryer, and other daily items neatly, and doing a final sweep of the room, Li Wei picked up Eevee, who had been sealed in the box, called Riolu who was already wildly practicing Tai Chi on the balcony, and headed out—right then bumping into his few good brothers. Together, they went to the door of their mysterious sixth teammate to call her out for dinner and bonding.
Knock knock knock.
Tian Bai knocked on the door, but Li Wei was pushed to the front.
The reason for this was as follows.
Recently, everyone had gone through that Bi Luo incident, so now they felt a slight trepidation toward people with nice-sounding names who seemed like beauties or hunks.
A perfectly fine looks streamer suddenly turned into a Jynx using a Pokémon voice translator overnight.
This must have been hard for many to accept.
So at this moment, with a bit of teasing in mind, the group conspiratorially pushed Li Wei to the front, ready for him to face the storm alone!
Not long after knocking, following the sound of footsteps, a questioning voice came from the other side of the door.
“Who is it?”
The voice was very crisp, and describing it as pleasant wouldn’t be overkill.
“Uh… I’m your teammate. Everyone’s here. Want to invite you out for a meal, get to know each other, bond a bit, and then head to the training ground together.”
Communicating through the door, Li Wei had no psychological burden.
Anyway, he’d already been hugged by Machamp. Even facing Jynx directly would be small potatoes for him now.
And most importantly, he had a Dragonair on him and an Eevee on his head—what was there to fear?
If dying, at least it would be a one-for-three trade against the other side!
“Okay! Just a moment!”
After waiting two minutes, with a click, the door opened.
A very petite figure, pink skirt, black jacket, punk-style short boots, and most eye-catching were her twin tails, hair falling just to her shoulders.
Cute and alluring.
“Chuu!”
Before Li Wei’s group could greet, a small rodent Pokémon with brown, yellow, and black fur climbed from her back to the girl’s head, friendly waving at everyone.
Of course, compared to the electric rodent Pokémon itself, the daily nut snack packaging in its hand was even more eye-catching.
“Hi everyone, I’m Mo Jiu. This is Morpeko, my starter Pokémon. And this is Gothitelle, my guardian Pokémon.”
Mo Jiu gave a slight bow to everyone for a simple self-introduction, and after that, everyone greeted Mo Jiu back with their own simple introductions.
Taking about a minute, they completed the first step of “bonding.”
The second step of “bonding” was heading to the canteen for dinner.
Training Area 1 had no restaurants, only a large public canteen.
The group used their freshly issued, still-warm ID cards to top up some money, then split up to buy food.
Due to bringing their whole families, Li Wei’s tray had the most attention-drawing portion.
Luckily, his Magic City property was thoughtful, providing him a tray, sparing him the acrobatics of stacking plates.
They say Zhonghua Family folks bond at the dining table—indeed, no mistake.
From dorm to canteen, Mo Jiu, who had barely spoken a word, was now arm-in-arm with Tian Bai and Tu Xiaomi, the three smiling as they carried huge parfaits to the table.
“Li Wei, if I go buy a parfait now, can I join them?”
Yu Yixian, who had just sat down and was twisting open a bottle of Jolly Water, looked at the trio and asked Li Wei.
“How should I know?”
Li Wei scorned Yu Yixian’s Pepsi cult, then quietly twisted open his own Coke Jolly Water.
“Look at you, what a disgrace.”
Zhou Fengjue, representing another heresy, twisted open his sugar-free Jolly Water while roasting Yu Yixian too.
In that instant, Li Wei and Zhou Fengjue’s disdain for Yu Yixian’s words, and as the three twisted their bottle caps while eyeing each other’s Jolly Water, a subtle discrimination chain was born.
After staring wordlessly for a bit, Yu Yixian, unhappy at being the only one roasted, spoke up to defend himself.
“How is that disgraceful! Building rapport with the girls—isn’t that a great ideal and aspiration?”
Yu Yixian didn’t feel he was wrong at all; he even thought his two bros had something wrong with their brains.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re right.”
Li Wei, busy playing stay-at-home dad dividing food for the three Pokémon, had no time for Yu Yixian and just brushed him off.
Zhou Fengjue rolled his eyes at Yu Yixian again. “Instead of that, think about how to become stronger.”
“With girls around, I don’t need to become stronger.”
“Oh, those girls could punch you to bits—what good are you then?”
Rarely, Yu Yixian didn’t retort, instead pondering briefly before nodding seriously at Zhou Fengjue.
“Older brother speaks wisely.”
The solemn tone and profound expression made even Li Wei look up in shock.
Just as the two thought Yu Yixian was about to “reform,” he proved with actions what “a dog can’t change its habits” meant.
“I need to become stronger first, then meet more girls! Becoming stronger is flawless! Once I’m strong, I’ll join them!”
…
Logical, no flaws.
Truth be told, Li Wei agreed with this reasoning himself.
¥¥¥¥¥¥
Zhonghua Family dinners have many terrifying traditions, first and foremost being chit-chat therapy.
At the table, aunts and uncles casually chat, and they can even pry out the color of your boxer briefs today—such dialogue is nightmare-level terror.
Li Wei thought these aunts would be wasting talent not becoming intelligence agents.
And coincidentally, Tian Bai had this terrifying ability too.
In the short time of one meal, Mo Jiu’s hobbies, university aspirations, and Pokémon nurturing direction were all asked about in detail, even scheduling a post-training outing and exchanging WeChat and phone numbers on the spot.
The efficiency was astonishing, leaving the three guys opposite in awe of her expertise.
This sixth teammate had a very friendly personality; aside from not talking much to them, everyone was very satisfied.
Not pig-like, refined looks matching Li Wei’s aesthetics, good temperament without embarrassing their nouveau riche squad’s image, elegant speech and manners clearly from a fine family—except for not talking to the three guys, which might cause future communication issues, everything was perfect.
Above was the unified evaluation of this new teammate by the three guys.
(oω`o)
The three girls walked ahead chatting and laughing, while the three guys trailed behind like it was a rainy day.
“Do we look pathetic?” Yu Yixian asked.
“Feels like it,” Li Wei replied instantly.
“Yeah… kinda.”
After a brief silence, even Zhou Fengjue agreed.
When Zhou Fengjue, whose brain was full of becoming stronger and muscles, felt this way, it meant their situation was truly pathetic.
Look at the mixed-gender pairs around, arm-in-arm and laughing effortlessly—made the three feel the snow falling even harder in their hearts.
Mo Jiu not talking to them at all deeply hurt their fragile little hearts.
But what hurt more was why other people’s girls were girls, while their two good bros were human beasts.
Tian Bai the violent maniac aside, Tu Xiaomi wasn’t quite normal either—liking flowers was one of her few feminine traits.
What kind of proper girl could buddy up with Tian Bai?
Could the girl who evolved Flower Bud in a month really be an ordinary cute girl?
Pokémon don’t grow that fast just from vague “love” hormones.
Without resource piling and professional training, such rapid growth is impossible!!
Truthfully, if not limited by her grand ideal of flower gardening, Tu Xiaomi might have turned into Zhou Fengjue 2.0.
After all, a kid his dad called “good child” definitely wasn’t a normal, ordinary good kid.
…
Sighing, the three with worried faces silently arrived at the training ground, waiting for assembly time.
Trainers and their own Pokémon stayed in the central area, while guardian Pokémon had a separate rest zone.
A group of Pokémon sat in a circle, chattering wildly in their native tongues.
And Li Wei, with his aura, could faintly perceive bits of their conversation.
【Our trainer is so excellent; he nurtures his Bulbasaur so well.】
【Oh wow, really impressive. Our trainer isn’t as promising—he doesn’t like battle training, just studies. Recent online mock exam, only got 98 points. Sigh, so disappointing.】
…
Families with guardian Pokémon escorts were mostly affluent, and these guardians gathered like neighborhood ladies or school moms gossiping about their kids’ grades.
Sure enough, this cultural tradition existed everywhere.
Students arriving at the ground chatted in small groups, starter Pokémon at their sides.
Li Wei glanced around; based on recent basic nurturing knowledge, he could roughly gauge opponents’ Pokémon levels and nurturing quality.
After Li Wei’s group arrived, the crowd silently moved aside.
Like ignoring them, or excluding them.
Truthfully, Li Wei thought it was all that clingy Dragonair’s fault!!
A pseudo-legendary prospect coiled on him, plus a Magic City property set beside, a Ponyta, a starter Pokémon, a scarce-resource-famous Mime Jr. for show, and finally a Morpeko that supposedly couldn’t be fed without a home nut mine.
Hmm…
Yeah, no one would want to hang out with them.
They didn’t wait long; with the training instructor in camouflage arriving, the formerly chatty students quieted down, standing a bit rigidly, awaiting the teacher’s words.
Students’ instincts were uncannily consistent across worlds.
But Li Wei suspected what quieted these students wasn’t the teacher, but the massive Onix following behind.
