Chapter 28: Mo Jiu
Li Wei had taken plenty of airplane flights, but he had basically no experience riding in a helicopter.
Aside from that one time during a sightseeing trip where he rode with his family to browse the so-called ‘aerial scenery’ for a bit, he had never ridden in a helicopter again.
Now that he was seated, it was overall a fresh experience.
The helicopters in the Pokémon World were very different from the ones he had ridden before, and the experience could be described as ‘worlds apart’.
In his impression, helicopters were all very narrow, with cramped spaces and huge noise.
But this helicopter experience of his was completely different.
Comfortable and spacious seats where five people plus a few Pokémon could squeeze together and still have room to walk around or even lie down and roll around, with a completely noiseless aviation experience.
This······
It was a bit comfortable, making him a little tempted.
This flight experience was way more comfortable than the last time he rode Dragonair into the sky..
If he needed long-term flights in the future, getting himself a small plane didn’t seem like a bad idea!
Although this plane had relatively spacious space, there were no traditional flight attendants, just a few ‘Guardian Pokémon’ acting as ‘nannies’ to look after the several underage big kids.
In the front pilot seats, besides the pilot, there was also a properly seated Alakazam.
According to the required exam content in the Pokémon League textbook, all aviation vehicles now, regardless of size or public or private, as long as they fly on Blue Star, must be equipped with Psychic-type Pokémon with ‘Pilot Assistance Qualification’.
This rigid regulation was, on one hand, to avoid unexpected attacks from Pokémon during flight, and on the other hand, because Psychic Attribute Pokémon have high intelligence, allowing them to take over operations for the pilot when the pilot encounters sudden events and their intelligence/physical strength hits zero, whether performing mechanical operations for an emergency landing or using their powerful Psychic Power to lift the plane to a safe place for landing; in emergencies, they are always much more reliable than humans who can only shout ‘Ahhhhhh!’.
After all, even the physical fitness of Pallet Town residents wouldn’t survive falling from several thousand meters in the sky.
Thanks to such rigid regulations and the constraints of the aviation safety laws, Trainer flight rules, and other ordinances formulated by the Pokémon League, there have basically been no flight accidents in recent years.
Basically, globally, there won’t be more than three air crashes in a year.
This could be considered a set of methods with binding force and fault tolerance that the Pokémon League had finally sorted out after a century of exploration.
While Li Wei subconsciously recited the flight laws from the third volume of the Pokémon League textbook’s basic legal regulations in his mind, Riolu and Eevee had already rushed to the window and pressed their faces firmly against it.
The sky was a completely new sight never seen before for these two cubs, and every ground-dwelling Pokémon inevitably has a mysterious yearning for the sky.
After reciting the entire third volume’s required content, Li Wei turned his head and saw Eevee with her front paws clawing at the window, eyes full of hope, frantically wagging her tail.
······
Li Wei sighed.
“Eevee, can you be a little more reserved?”
“Bu Yi?”
Obviously, Eevee didn’t know what was wrong with her and turned her head to give Li Wei a look of ‘little bro, is there something wrong with your brain?’
“Don’t get too excited! Image! Image! Your image as a lady. Can you not look so embarrassing staring out the window!!”
Having taken care of Eevee for over a month, Li Wei had thoroughly figured out what kind of personality his Eevee had.
Every day she drooled and wagged her tail at those fashion magazines, wanting to buy this and that; Li Wei couldn’t help but feel regret for her being born as a Bu Yi.
If this Eevee were a Lopunny or even a Gardevoir, would Li Wei be short of those few hundred thousand bucks?
But just an Eevee—no matter how she evolves, she can’t wear those humanoid little skirts or carry little bags, right?
Thinking this way, Li Wei felt a bit sorry for this Eevee who had dreams she shouldn’t have. Looking at Eevee who suddenly sat properly, legs together, tail obediently placed by her side in a ‘lady’ posture, Li Wei couldn’t help but sigh again and pat her head.
‘Poor kid ah~~~’
After dealing with Eevee, he then started ideological education on Riolu next to him.
“Riolu ah~”
“Ru?”
“Is the scenery outside nice?”
“Ru!”
【Nice!】
“It would look even better from outside the plane! And playing games in the sky feels even more awesome!”, Li Wei began his devilish whisper.
“Ru?!!”
【Really?!】
And obviously, the young Riolu couldn’t resist the temptation.
“Yes, as long as you successfully master Aura, one day you can do this too!!”
“Ru!!!”
【I’ll work hard!!! What’s the training plan!!!】
“How about we start training after the Provincial Competition?”
“Ru!”
【No! I want it now!】
“Eh? But it’ll be very tough oh~”
“Ru!!”
【No problem!! I can do it!!】
“Good! It’s a deal! Then tonight I’ll give you the specific training plan!”
“Ru ru!!”
Afterward, the look in Riolu’s eyes toward the sky was no longer just hope, but more of an intent to conquer it.
······
This was the daily life of the young Pokémon and Li Wei, whose heart was sour with jealousy.
On the other side, the group who had been huddled with Indeedee fiddling with stuff since boarding the plane finally returned to their seats.
“Young Master Li! Here, your dessert and pudding.”
Yu Yixian shoved the tray in his hand to Li Wei, with sarcasm already overflowing in his tone.
“Hey, why are you dissing me so hard today?”
Li Wei asked, amused and exasperated.
“It’s because you ditched us, making us wait for you on the street for over half an hour,” Zhou Fengjue sitting beside answered for Yu Yixian.
“Why didn’t you call me then!”, Li Wei protested that he was totally innocent; if anyone had just called him, would things be like this??
“We did call, Tian Bai’s phone was about to run out of credit,” Yu Yixian picked up the thread and continued.
“Then why didn’t you have someone else call me???”
“Would you pick up if it was us instead of Tian Bai?”
“Why not? It was exactly because it was her calling that I didn’t pick up!!”, Li Wei answered matter-of-factly.
“Huh?? For real??”, Yu Yixian felt like he smelled some gossip.
“Really.”
Tian Bai, who was originally sitting aside watching videos with Tu Xiaomi on her mobile phone, immediately chimed in, while rolling her eyes dramatically.
“Young Master Li didn’t even save my phone number; when he saw my text, he thought it was spam and directly blocked me.”
“Pfft.”
The group sitting together couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.
“Hey hey hey! You’re going too far!”, Tian Bai yelled.
“Not at all, hahaha.”
“Xiaomi! Aren’t we besties!!”
“Plastic friendship, plastic friendship~”
Amid the laughter and commotion, the grudge over the ditched event ended.
The dessert tasted great; it seemed Yu Yixian and the two Indeedee had made it together while Li Wei was spacing out.
“Hey Yixian-er, your househusband skills are improving,” Li Wei teased Yu Yixian with a cheeky grin.
“I’ve told you not to call me that so many times!!!”
A very ethereal name, but with such a cheeky diminutive, it was nothing but teasing material.
Or rather, adding that weird diminutive made it sound just like the names some kids give their Pokémon, like Wangcai or Jinbao.
“Got it, Yixian-er.”×4
······
“I’ll just pretend you’re jealous of my talent!”
“Oh, what amazing talent, as expected of Magic City’s young master Yu Yixian, the dream of thousands of girls~”
It seemed Li Wei was also the vengeful type; now while eating, speaking without thinking, he was full of sarcasm.
Facing Li Wei’s mockery, Yu Yixian took a deep breath and uttered a sentence eerily.
“You·······are actually right!”
For a group of people to get along so well, they must have some similarities.
Hearing this guy shamelessly chime in, everyone simultaneously rolled their eyes at him, tacitly giving up on saying anything more to this narcissistic demon.
The few silently took out their Poké Balls and released their Pokémon to enjoy the freshly made snacks together.
After the few released their Pokémon, the large space inside this helicopter finally came into play.
Except for Li Wei, everyone else had the configuration of one own Pokémon and one Guardian Pokémon.
Li Wei had the most family members, a total of three Pokémon: starter Riolu, second Pokémon Eevee, Guardian Pokémon Dragonair.
Zhou Fengjue’s starter was a cool-looking Treecko, and his Guardian Pokémon was also a ‘handsome’ Breloom.
This fit his personality perfectly; as someone who had earned praise from his father Li Yuan Sheng since childhood, Zhou Fengjue’s brain couldn’t lack muscle.
Unlike Zhou Fengjue’s all ‘handsome’ Pokémon lineup, Yu Yixian’s starter was much flashier.
It was a Ponyta.
But this wasn’t an ordinary Ponyta; it was from a special region, called ‘Galar Region’ in the game, and ‘Regional Variant Pokémon’ in this parallel world.
Special forms of the same species Pokémon caused by special geographical environments are called ‘Regional Variant Pokémon’/’Regional Variant Pokémon’. —As written in Chapter 3 of Volume 1 of the Pokémon League textbook.
Li Wei, who had gone a bit mad with memorizing, looked at this Ponyta and besides the textbook content, his mind was filled with three words: rich guy.
His Guardian Pokémon was pretty flashy too.
A female Indeedee.
No issue, very Yu Yixian.
Li Wei silently gave Yu Yixian a thumbs up, then turned to look at the Pokémon of the two beside him.
Tu Xiaomi’s Pokémon were very girly; her starter was Whimsicott.
She was the only Trainer among those present who had nurtured a two-stage evolution, and her nanny was a Zangoose.
To be honest, this Guardian Pokémon always felt off somehow.
Li Wei even mischievously speculated what would happen if this Zangoose encountered a Seviper in the Training Area.
And what surprised Li Wei the most was probably Tian Bai’s starter Pokémon.
This person known for violence actually didn’t choose Machop, Numel, or Crocomish, but a pink and tender Mime Jr.
To be fair, Li Wei was startled by Tian Bai’s choice, to the point of tactical retreat all the way to the corner.
“Hey!! What’s with that reaction huh!”
Tian Bai naturally caught Li Wei’s reaction fully, waving her fist to warn him to watch his words.
“N-nothing, this Mime Jr is really cute.”
“Hmph! At least you have some survival instinct.”
Tian Bai huffed and turned her head away.
“But you didn’t choose Combat Department······”, Li Wei said, somewhat shocked.
“No way Li Wei, you didn’t know Tian Bai has always wanted to go to Nurturing Department??”, Yu Yixian, who had lurked for a long time, finally found his chance for revenge, countering with a similarly sarcastic tone.
“Yixian-er, you need to know, sometimes dreams are plump but reality is skinny; ideals don’t matter, what’s important is suitability. I don’t think Tian Bai has anything to do with nurturing.”
Some people, even if cloaked in Nurturing Department skin, can’t change their combative nature in the end.
Take this Mime Jr for example.
Would a normal family’s Mime Jr do boxing practice?
This wasn’t him using Aura to see through; what were those two boxing gloves on this Mime Jr’s hands for?
To train the nanny’s physical exorcism skills???

The time to arrive at the Training Area was much shorter than Li Wei imagined.
Two hours later, they landed on a wide lawn.
After getting off the plane, the few followed the welcoming staff to the corresponding reception desk,
There were no novel-style traditional getting-lost adventure segments during this, no seniors encountered on the way who mocked upon meeting, just very plainly showing their Pokémon certificates and ID cards, and they were led to their corresponding dormitory.
The registration process was simple and dull: scan code, scan Poké Ball, online verification, confirm biological info, on-site payment, then the person in charge hands over a document bag containing various documents, including dormitory arrangements, training period schedules, and various rules and regulations, etc.
Among the few, only Li Wei read the most carefully, because only he knew nothing.
The training period used a six-person group mode, and one of the final Graduation Exams, the 6v6 battle, was also held by group units.
The five of them used money power······ not really money power, they had directly told the person in charge before random grouping to put their five in one group, so now they were heading to the dormitory to find the sixth person.
The dormitory pairings were very casual, very much like overseas student dorms, mixed gender.
They were on the sixth floor, and upon exiting the elevator on the sixth floor, there were only two openable doors in sight.
The doors were divided into A and B; their corresponding number was 6A. After opening the corresponding door, there was a long corridor inside, with left three, right four, total seven doors.
Six bedrooms, one shared kitchen, and each bedroom was fifty square meters, equipped with a bed, desk, wardrobe, dry-wet separated bathroom and shower room, and a relatively spacious activity area.
After the few stuck their names and student numbers on the corresponding doors according to assignment, they decided to first go back to unpack their luggage and tidy up, then knock on the door of the sixth teammate who had already finished registration and was in the house, and go out together for a meal to bond.
On the way back to the room, Li Wei glanced with his peripheral vision at the name tag on the door opposite his.
Mo Jiu.
A very nice-sounding name, and obviously a girl’s; Li Wei said he was looking forward to it.

Timo’s Flop Diary
July 2
Tomorrow is the trial, I’m so nervous now, totally don’t know what to do.
Spent half an hour agonizing over the female lead’s name, finally went with Plan B.
Completely wasted half an hour on meaningless thinking, and didn’t have time to write the flop little diary.
This might just be dumbass behavior.

I kneel to myself too.
