Chapter 67: 067 Brand New Attributes
Regarding Han Yixuan’s intense psychological activity, Wang Heng naturally had no way of knowing. He didn’t even know that the girl had been so close to him just now. He just normally said goodbye to Pei Ningle and then walked toward the school.
He walked through the school gate, crossed the campus, entered the dormitory building, went up the stairs, took out the key, and unlocked the dormitory door.
Then he saw his three roommates sitting on the edge of the lower bunk, all turning their heads to stare at him.
Wang Heng couldn’t help but feel slightly surprised. After all, it wasn’t lights-out time yet, and Fu Hanwen wasn’t playing games, Wang Ke wasn’t watching anime—this situation was really quite rare.
He asked, “What’s up? What are you guys doing?”
The three roommates glanced at each other, their eyes showing some hesitation. But the most conflicted among the three was still Tang Hexing.
Fu Hanwen hurriedly said, “This matter is mainly Xiao Tang’s fault… but we can’t blame him too much. After all, no one could have expected something like this to happen.”
Wang Heng: “What matter?”
Wang Ke patted Tang Hexing’s shoulder: “Let Xiao Tang explain it.”
Wang Heng’s gaze turned to Tang Hexing.
Tang Hexing gritted his teeth and said, “That stupid cat seems to have escaped.”
Wang Heng smiled: “Unrestrained and loving freedom, huh…”
Tang Hexing: “When the cat ran away, it also took your hamster in its mouth.”
Wang Heng: “?”
Fu Hanwen pointed at the hamster cage on the desk and sighed: “When we got back, the crime scene was already like this.”
Wang Heng walked to his desk and took a look. Sure enough, the cage was empty, the little gray thing with black stripes inside had vanished without a trace, and the cage door was open upward.
Fu Hanwen continued analyzing: “This is a locked-room case. The hamster definitely doesn’t have the strength to lift that door, but the cat might.”
Wang Ke adjusted the glasses that weren’t on his face and also analyzed: “The victim is Teacher Wang’s hamster. The only possible culprit is Xiao Tang’s cat. But now there’s another problem: the dormitory door. The door was closed. It’s hard to believe a cat fleeing the scene of the crime would close the door behind it.”
“Right, sometimes I even forget to close the door,” Fu Hanwen added, “So, this really has become a locked-room crime mystery.”
Wang Heng: “Detective reasoning… fun?”
Finally, Tang Hexing sighed and spoke: “So we think the cat probably climbed down the outer wall and jumped. We just looked around and didn’t find the cat or the hamster.”
Wang Ke: “But logically, based on rigorous reasoning, the culprit is undoubtedly Yuchuan classmate.”
Tang Hexing tugged at his hair and shouted: “Can you use a different name? Don’t call it Yuchuan anymore! Why can’t you let go of that drunken incident?”
Fu Hanwen patted his shoulder: “No choice. The consequences of your drunken escapades not only provoked Yuchuan classmate but also doomed Teacher Wang’s hamster. That’s really… tsk tsk.”
Wang Heng interrupted: “Wait a minute. Since no body was found, my hamster might not be dead.”
Fu Hanwen: “How could it still be alive? It fell into the cat’s mouth!”
Wang Ke: “And it went out through the fourth-floor window. Cats have strong climbing ability, but hamsters don’t, right? It’s probably already been taken by Yuchuan classmate as a late-night snack…”
Wang Heng smiled but said nothing more. But he knew very well that a proper time-space administrator wouldn’t die so easily.
At that moment, there was a knock on the dormitory door.
The sound was a bit strange—not like someone knocking, more like… the sound of cat claws scratching?
The four looked at each other, almost simultaneously realizing a certain possibility.
Tang Hexing rushed over and opened the door.
Sure enough, the white cat was squatting in the doorway, its left front paw still raised in mid-air.
The gray little hamster was there too, lying under the white cat, curled up almost into a little meatball, trembling and looking pitiful.
Fu Hanwen exclaimed in surprise: “The culprit turned itself in!”
Wang Ke also shouted: “And the victim is really still alive!”
Tang Hexing grabbed the cat by the scruff of its neck and lifted it up.
The white cat looked innocent, not knowing what had happened. But the next moment awaiting it was Tang Hexing’s violent lesson.
Slap after slap on the cat’s body, Tang Hexing beat and scolded: “Run! Who told you to run around! Fine, run if you want, but you took someone else’s hamster—you’ve gotten bold, haven’t you!”
Wang Heng picked up the hamster and silently walked out of the dormitory to the end of the corridor. There was no one around, and the commotion in dorm 414 wasn’t small. As long as he didn’t shout loudly, there was basically no worry of being heard.
He held the hamster up to his eye level and whispered: “Your acting was really good just now. It was actually you behind it, right?”
The hamster sat in his palm and actually leisurely crossed its legs: “Do I need to say it?”
Wang Heng: “I guess you ran out of the dormitory yourself, and the cat was just following behind you. It’s innocent.”
The hamster clapped its little front paws: “Smart! You got it right!”
Wang Heng stared at it intently and asked again: “So what did you do when you ran out?”
Hamster: “If I say I did nothing, will you believe me?”
Wang Heng: “Do you think I’d believe that nonsense?”
The hamster spread its little front paws and shrugged helplessly: “No helping it then. You won’t believe the truth. I really did nothing, just went out for some air. I’ve been in the cage for so many days, and you never take me out for a walk…”
Wang Heng couldn’t help interrupting: “Are you a dog? Do you need me to walk you?”
At that moment, footsteps approached. The hamster immediately changed its posture, obediently lying in his palm like an ordinary little hamster that had just been scared out of its wits.
It was Tang Hexing coming over, apologetically saying: “Sorry about that, Teacher Wang. But I just taught my cat a lesson. It shouldn’t cause trouble like this again.”
Wang Heng smiled: “No problem. After all, the cat and hamster are both back. There shouldn’t be any more incidents like this.”
Seeing his roommate wasn’t going to hold it against him, Tang Hexing breathed a sigh of relief. He turned back to the dormitory but saw the white cat that had just been beaten and meowing now rubbing against him, sticking to his pant leg. Tang Hexing squatted down, and the cat stretched its neck for him to pet, being extremely well-behaved.
Wang Heng was stunned: “You just beat it, and this cat doesn’t hold grudges?”
The hamster’s gaze suddenly became profoundly deep: “It awakened a brand-new trait… Among countless futures, the one that came true is this one. Did you see? That person and that cat’s relationship is developing in the strangest direction.”
Wang Heng scoffed: “It’s just a cat. How wild can the future get?”
The hamster said wistfully: “You have to know, this world is very complex…”
