Chapter 41: Life And Death Agreement
“I just don’t believe he doesn’t know your situation.”
“When you’re old, you lose your courage too!” Sister Sha Jiu sat in the car, her eyes full of ferocity.
Chen Wujun deeply agreed with Sister Sha Jiu’s words in his heart.
Yesterday Sister Sha Jiu said Xin Ye was old, but he hadn’t taken it to heart.
But now… he felt Xin Ye really was old.
Even if Xin Ye had merit for the Walled City, merit is merit and can’t be eaten forever. When old, he should step aside for young and capable people, not occupy the position there.
If he doesn’t want to step aside, then he should go die.
“Senior Sister, with four more months, I have confidence.” Chen Wujun said calmly.
“It’s not this issue…” Sister Sha Jiu shook her head; it wasn’t about whether Chen Wujun had confidence.
“But now we can only do this.”
“In a day or two, you’ll know who your opponent is. I’ll give you the information then!”
“These months, focus on martial arts practice. I’ll cover the crystals you need.”
“As for the gambling dens, I’ll give you two of those four gambling dens, and lend a few people to help you. Just go check occasionally, manage the accounts, and don’t worry about the rest.”
“Thanks, Sister Sha Jiu!” Chen Wujun nodded.
Giving him two of the four gambling dens was about what he expected.
Others contribute manpower; how could they give him all the fat meat.
“No matter who your opponent is, Wen Long’s subordinates are all at Resonance Stage strength, starting to optimize the nervous system, with physical quality several times that of ordinary people, and extremely sharp senses and reactions.”
“Your current strength definitely isn’t a match. Whether you can do it depends on your progress in the next few months.”
Sister Sha Jiu sat in the car and said while thinking:
“Your Old Bear Hugs Tree is practiced well now, with light but steady steps and strong waist and back. In the next few months, you must at least master White Crane Explores Branch, Tiger Descends Mountain, and Spirit Monkey Hangs Beam stakes.”
“As long as you master these stakes, your strength, stamina, flexibility, and other aspects will grow substantially, reaching the peak of Body Tempering. One step further is Qi Refining.”
“Learn Swimming Dragon Palm too! This palm technique advances sideways and diagonally, twists, flips, turns, kicks, strikes, throws, and grapples. Use human head stake to understand the power, and even if the opponent has a bit more strength, you won’t suffer.”
“I got it!” Chen Wujun nodded, taking Sister Sha Jiu’s words to heart.
He knew Sister Sha Jiu’s advice was definitely the best for his current situation.
……
One day later, evening.
“Brother Jun, now Li Dong and they aren’t coming to fight, and the gambling dens aren’t opening. What’s the situation?” Ah Fei asked from the side.
The others all perked up their ears to listen.
These days Wen Long’s people had gone quiet, but the gambling dens stayed closed, and the downstairs henchmen didn’t know the specifics.
Chen Wujun was highly regarded by Sister Sha Jiu, so maybe he knew something.
“No fighting is good, right? Results are coming soon!” Chen Wujun pulled a stack of money from his pocket, took out 300 and threw it on the gambling table.
“Go buy Four Treasure Rice.”
“Go buy Four Treasure Rice!” Ah Fei threw the money to a henchman behind him.
As soon as the person left, Chen Wujun received a telephone call from Sister Sha Jiu.
“Bring people to Qing Yun Pavilion. You know where it is, right? Go out the west side, then wait downstairs when you arrive.”
“Where is Qing Yun Pavilion?” Chen Wujun asked after hanging up the telephone.
“Not far out the west gate. It’s usually a place for talks.” Ah Fei said.
“Call the person back; no need for Four Treasure Rice. We’re going to Qing Yun Pavilion. Looks like there’s a result!” Chen Wujun immediately took people to Qing Yun Pavilion. Halfway, A Hao led twenty or thirty people out of an alley.
The two groups met up, and A Hao walked shoulder to shoulder with Chen Wujun: “A Jun, I heard you’re gambling duel with Li Dong’s person?”
“Heard it so soon?” Chen Wujun was a bit surprised.
“It’s the rumor Li Dong put out!” A Hao explained, then patted Chen Wujun’s shoulder.
“Li Dong is afraid you won’t dare to fight; they underestimate you! But do you have confidence?”
Since the last support, Chen Wujun had gotten familiar with A Hao and Cun Bao, and their relationship was passable when meeting.
“Of course. Gambling half a territory, if no confidence, Sister Sha Jiu would skin me!” Chen Wujun smiled.
“That’s good!” A Hao laughed: “If you need help, just say the word. You’re working for the hall too; I definitely have no second words!”
“Might really need your help then!” Chen Wujun said.
According to Sister Sha Jiu, he needed to use human head stake to practice power, meaning using people to practice hands.
The more human head stakes, the better; he might even need A Hao and Cun Bao as sparring partners.
As the group just left the Walled City, they saw many of Li Dong’s people on the street, glaring coldly at each other.
Chen Wujun and A Hao swaggered through with their people to Carpa Da Road, where there were even more people.
Not only Li Dong’s people, but also He Tu’s people.
Hundreds stood on both sides of the street. Though no weapons, the atmosphere between both sides was thick with gunpowder.
A Hao and Chen Wujun’s arrival intensified this gunpowder smell even more.
Chen Wujun pushed through the crowd blocking in front of him and looked up at the sign above: Qing Yun Pavilion Restaurant.
“This is the place. Wait here for Sister Sha Jiu!”
He withdrew his gaze and looked ahead, seeing a crowd of heads staring coldly at him.
“You’re that Chen Wujun?” One buzz-cut skinny young man coldly sized up Chen Wujun.
“Which one is this?” Chen Wujun completely ignored him and asked A Hao.
His voice wasn’t small, just loud enough for the opposite side to hear.
“Isn’t this one of Wen Long’s subordinates’ stray dogs?” A Hao put on a suddenly enlightened expression.
“It really is one!”
Hearing this, the opposite side immediately flew into rage, with many squeezing forward from behind.
“What did you say?”
“Ran so fast the other day with tail between legs, today the master came and you dare bark?” Chen Wujun sneered.
“Kid! You’re dead!” The skinny young man on the opposite side gritted his teeth to suppress his anger and gestured for the people behind to stop.
Chen Wujun sneered and ignored them.
He took a cigarette from A Hao’s hand; the two lit up and leaned on the roadside railing to smoke.
After finishing two cigarettes, Sister Sha Jiu finally arrived leisurely.
Sister Sha Jiu wore black wide-leg long pants, a ladies’ shirt on top, and a diamond necklace around her neck, followed by Ji Xiang, Cun Bao, and over a dozen people.
Seeing Sister Sha Jiu arrive, Li Dong’s people immediately went quiet.
Sister Sha Jiu’s reputation was earned through fights, and her explosive temper was famous.
“Jun Zai, A Hao, come up with me. The rest wait here.”
After Sister Sha Jiu spoke, she went directly into the building.
When A Hao and Chen Wujun entered, he glanced back at the skinny young man outside and suddenly smiled: “Still a watchdog.”
One sentence made the other’s face darken like dripping water.
Qing Yun Pavilion’s business wasn’t good; hundreds stood outside, but inside was empty, not a single guest at the tables.
The group went to the second floor, seeing a round table in the middle where Xin Ye sat with two unfamiliar men.
One middle-aged man had a square face, sitting there like a mountain, full of pressure.
The other was an old man wearing a Tang suit, smiling on his face.
Several tables around had some He Tu and Li Dong people sitting.
Chen Wujun immediately saw Gao Lao cracking sunflower seeds on one side, and on the other, Wen Long chatting with two unfamiliar men.
“Sha Jiu’s here; everyone’s complete.” Xin Ye waved at this side.
Wen Long also stood up and walked over with a few people, staring darkly at Sister Sha Jiu.
“Now all parties are here!” The old man stood up and said.
“Both sides know the situation. This matter started with Wen Long crossing the line first, then Sha Jiu counterattacking.”
“Now Wen Long has greater losses, but Sha Jiu has losses too.”
“If fighting continues, both sides’ losses will grow, and in the end, outsiders will take advantage.”
“So today we set a rule to resolve this with an arena fight to decide territory division and ownership.”
“No matter who wins or loses, once the arena is done, this matter is settled.”
“No opinions?” After the old man spoke, he looked at Sister Sha Jiu and Wen Long.
“Giving Xin Ye face!” Sister Sha Jiu pursed her lips; though dissatisfied, she couldn’t say it now.
“Hmph, I have no opinion!” Wen Long said coldly.
“Both sides put forward people!” After the old man spoke, Chen Wujun stepped forward to stand beside Sister Sha Jiu.
From behind Wen Long also stepped out a man over 1.8 meters tall, muscles bulging, hooked nose, eyes sharp like an eagle, with massive vital energy.
Just standing there made one feel his explosive power and pressure.
“It’s me!”
“Kid, trained a bit and don’t know the heights of heaven and earth; wait to die!” The man grinned viciously.
Chen Wujun had seen this man; he was one of the unstoppable under Wen Long that day in battle, named Yu Wei.
“If beaten like a dog by others, I’d have died myself long ago; why stand here?” Chen Wujun mocked.
Before the words fell, he heard laughter from behind.
He knew from the voice it was A Hao.
Wen Long and his subordinates’ eyes were full of killing intent; if gazes could kill, Chen Wujun would be sliced to pieces.
“In the arena, I’ll dismantle your bones one by one!” Yu Wei pointed at Chen Wujun, then clenched his five fingers, making a popping sound like exploding air.
“From now on, both sides cease; any disputes resolved in the arena! After the arena, no matter win or lose, no more trouble.” The old man said loudly.
“Both sides sign the life and death agreement!”
Chen Wujun went to the table, picked up the pen looking at the life and death agreement in front; all eyes around fell on him, making his heart beat faster and palms sweat.
Not panic, but inexplicable bloodthirst and excitement.
He somewhat enjoyed this feeling: facing opponents, facing fight to the death, enjoying everyone’s gazes.
He felt something inside activate.
Chen Wujun looked up at his opponent, grinned showing white teeth and chilling killing intent, gave Yu Wei a thumbs up, then slowly turned it down.
Then the pen danced like a dragon and snake, quickly signing his name.
