Chapter 39: Business Needs Sustainable Development
Xin Ye’s gaze fell on Sister Sha Jiu, and Sister Sha Jiu leaned back in the chair and said:
“I’m definitely not handing over the person. Since the turf has been taken, it’s mine now, and don’t think about making me spit it out.”
Xin Ye withdrew his gaze: “Elephant wants to fight, the two have no opinion, Sister Sha Jiu as the party involved now occupies Wen Long’s turf… Since that’s the case, I’ll talk to Li Dong’s Dragon Head! See what their attitude is.”
“If they want to fight, then fight. If they want to talk, then see how to talk.”
Clap clap clap!
Guan Lao San clapped his palms: “Xin Ye, just take charge!”
Afterward, Xin Ye Lin Jianxin said some other things, but they weren’t too important.
Half an hour later, the meeting was announced to be over.
“Let’s go!” Sister Sha Jiu stood up and said.
Chen Wujun followed her out the door, and Ah Fei and Curry followed behind.
Coming out from the back door of the Welfare Association, Sister Sha Jiu pointed to a second-hand shop across the street: “Didn’t you want to buy Magnetic Field Crystals? It’s right there.”
Several burly-looking youths at the door were chatting idly. When they saw Sister Sha Jiu coming, they immediately stood up: “Sister Sha Jiu!”
Sister Sha Jiu entered the door and said to an old man in his fifties or sixties who was reading a book inside:
“My person will come back later to get the crystals!” Sister Sha Jiu said to the old man.
“Got it!” The old man glanced at Chen Wujun and memorized his appearance.
“He can come and it’ll be fine.”
After leaving, Sister Sha Jiu continued: “The entire East District 9 Magnetic Field Crystal smuggling market is controlled by He Tu. And most of the Firefly Ointment used by those New Technique Martial Arts Schools is also ours from He Tu.”
“The kind of Magnetic Field Crystal you use is 8000 outside, but here it’s 5000.”
Sister Sha Jiu had mentioned it in passing last time, and that’s how Chen Wujun learned that He Tu had such a big business.
He had used up his last Magnetic Field Crystal today, so he needed to bring money tonight to buy two.
The group arrived at a bar outside the Walled City. There weren’t many guests at the moment, so Sister Sha Jiu ordered two bottles of beer and sat at the bar chatting idly with Chen Wujun.
“This Elephant seems straightforward, but he’s actually very greedy.”
“Gao Lao always waits until everyone else has spoken, then speaks last. He always stands on the winning side.”
“This Guan Lao San… what do you think he said that for?”
When Chen Wujun first heard Guan Lao San say to hand over the person, his mind was full of killing intent, but Guan Lao San immediately backed down, which surprised Chen Wujun.
He had been pondering it for a while.
Now that Sister Sha Jiu asked again, he hesitated for a moment and said: “Probe?”
“Probe what?” Sister Sha Jiu asked back.
“Probe if Senior Sister wants to protect me?”
Sister Sha Jiu smiled: “He was probing Xin Ye! He wanted to see what Xin Ye’s real intentions were, see how Xin Ye’s body is!”
Chen Wujun was very shocked by this answer.
“Xin Ye is injured? Body not well?”
“It’s been many years!” Sister Sha Jiu said.
“Speaking of which, this Walled City was still protected by Xin Ye! You know the East District 9 government has always wanted to tear down the Walled City, right?”
“Seen it on television.” Chen Wujun said. Every time his dad mentioned this, he would curse.
“Back then, Xin Ye was a Magnetic Field Level master!” Sister Sha Jiu said.
“Back then? Not anymore?” It was the first time Chen Wujun had heard this, and his heart was full of curiosity.
“It was forty years ago. At that time, the Federation wanted to forcibly demolish the Walled City, and Xin Ye caused a huge commotion. Then Xin Ye was seriously injured and hasn’t recovered all these years!” Sister Sha Jiu explained simply.
“Not only has his strength not recovered, but he’s old now, and his fighting spirit is gone!” Sister Sha Jiu tilted her head back and drank a glass of beer.
Hearing this, Chen Wujun realized that Sister Sha Jiu… seemed to have a big opinion about Xin Ye.
And Guan Lao San too…
The relationships among He Tu’s top brass were much more complicated than he had thought before.
Moreover, these people only showed the surface in everyday interactions; every sentence was full of complex intentions.
Compared to these people, he was too naive.
Chen Wujun vaguely realized in his heart that Jianghu was not just about being able to fight.
What others show may not be their real thoughts; every sentence needs to be pondered.
“Senior Sister, a toast to you! No matter what happens, I definitely support you.” Chen Wujun raised his wine glass and drank it all down, feeling quite grateful in his heart.
If it weren’t for Sister Sha Jiu pointing it out to him, he wouldn’t know how long it would take to understand these things.
“You’re my person, after all!” Sister Sha Jiu patted his shoulder.
Then Chen Wujun suddenly remembered that Xin Ye was a Magnetic Field Level powerhouse forty years ago, so how old was he now?
“How old is Xin Ye?”
“I heard he’s over 90! Can’t tell, right?” Sister Sha Jiu laughed heartily.
Chen Wujun looked shocked.
“At Magnetic Field Level, you can influence cells through your own magnetic field, so living over 100 is easy. Although Xin Ye has been injured for so many years and his strength has dropped, he can still extend his lifespan.” Sister Sha Jiu explained.
Hearing this, expectation and longing appeared in Chen Wujun’s eyes.
Magnetic Field Level!
……
That night, Chen Wujun brought money to buy two Magnetic Field Crystals. After coming out of that second-hand shop, Chen Wujun carefully put away the two crystals, touched his pants pocket, and wasn’t in a great mood.
No money left.
These past two nights, he had been paying for the henchmen’s meals too.
He had only 2000 left on him now.
‘Money flows out like water. Before, over twenty thousand felt like a fortune, didn’t know how to spend it, but now just crystals cost twenty-five thousand a month.’
‘Two crystals only last 12 days. I have to do something!’ Chen Wujun thought to himself.
No money… means need to open up new income sources.
A living person can’t be suffocated by urine.
Life has to find its own way out.
“That loan shark company… Now He Tu and Li Dong are at war, no one would think it was me who did it.”
“This breaks the rules, but as long as no one knows it was me, then it doesn’t break the rules!”
Chen Wujun’s thinking was very straightforward.
Back home, he changed clothes, put on a hat, tucked the folding knife into his pocket, then grabbed a bag of clothes and went out.
After the fights to the death over the past few days, his courage now was frighteningly big.
These days, Bing Ye’s people were still investigating the killer, but after a few months, it was just symbolic checking.
Chen Wujun arrived in the alley of the loan shark company but didn’t rush over; instead, he waited in the shadows.
These loan shark companies all had safes, and the money was usually kept in the safe.
He had to wait for an opportunity.
After waiting about an hour, he saw two people enter the alley. One of them hesitated in his steps, finally gritted his teeth and made up his mind to enter that loan shark company.
This was the opportunity Chen Wujun was waiting for.
Chen Wujun took a piece of cloth from his pocket to cover his face, waited five minutes, then came to the loan shark door.
It was two rooms front and back. The outer one was about two to three hundred square feet, with several henchmen playing cards.
There was another door inside that wasn’t closed, and he could see several people inside.
Chen Wujun quickly walked in. The henchmen playing cards looked up, about to speak, then froze.
They saw a man wearing a hat with his face covered by cloth, only eyes showing.
Before they could act, Chen Wujun’s hand behind his back suddenly moved. Two flashes of cold light, and he slit two necks.
The remaining henchman was instantly terrified, hair standing on end, shouting: “Murder!”
Then he bent down to grab something from under the coffee table where they were playing cards.
Chen Wujun ignored him, stomped his foot, and rushed into the inner room. He saw one person with his back turned, taking money out from the safe. Hearing the noise outside, he turned his head.
After rushing into the room, Chen Wujun directly jumped over the table blocking in front. While still in mid-air, he slashed at his neck with a knife.
The man hurriedly dodged to the side and lifted his foot to kick at Chen Wujun.
Chen Wujun first slashed his leg with a knife, then stepped forward and kicked him in the crotch.
He heard something crunch under his foot.
The opponent’s whole body stiffened, mouth open but no sound coming out.
Chen Wujun knew the opponent had lost the ability to resist, then looked to the side.
There were two more people in the room: one was a henchman who pulled people into the gambling den, the other was the borrower.
That henchman reacted quickly, grabbed a vase nearby, and smashed it at Chen Wujun.
Chen Wujun dodged the vase, circled around the table. The henchman tried to run but collided with the one rushing in from outside. Chen Wujun stabbed into his back, then kicked, sending both tumbling to the ground.
Chen Wujun advanced two steps and slashed the other one dead.
Of the five in the loan shark company, the strongest was that New Technique Martial Artist taking money from the safe.
But caught off guard, he was directly crippled by Chen Wujun.
As for the others, they were just ordinary henchmen.
If it were half a month ago, Chen Wujun would have had to expend some effort, but now they were almost powerless against him.
Turning back to the outer room, the gambler who came to borrow money trembled and begged for mercy: “Boss, I don’t know anything.”
Chen Wujun pointed his knife tip, gesturing for him to face the corner and squat.
Then he went behind the table. That New Technique Martial Artist was still clutching his crotch and twitching on the ground. Chen Wujun stabbed his neck, then used his clothes to wipe the blood off the knife, but couldn’t clean his hands.
He stood up and turned, seeing a fish tank in the room. Chen Wujun went over and washed his hands with the water in the fish tank, then put away the folding knife and squatted in front of the safe. He saw stacks of money inside.
From five and ten to fifty and a hundred.
Chen Wujun estimated at least forty to fifty thousand.
Besides that, there were a few watches and gold jewelry, probably pawned there.
He opened the drawer, found a bag, and stuffed the money, watches, and such inside.
He took out a stack of IOUs, flipped through them, confirmed the Eldest Son hadn’t borrowed here again, and put the IOUs back.
His dad’s dentistry would give discounts to old customers, and Kai Lun’s Dance Hall would give a fruit plate to big guests.
Business needs to be sustainable.
Need long-term flow, not drain the pond to catch fish.
Then he turned to open the drawer and rummage, seeing nothing valuable, then went to search that New Technique Martial Artist on the ground, taking his wallet, watch, ring, and throwing them into the bag.
Besides that, there was a flat round small medicine box, looking similar to cooling oil.
Chen Wujun opened it and saw a gray ointment inside with some deep blue crystal points, emitting a cooling scent.
Chen Wujun immediately knew what it was: Firefly Ointment used by New Technique Martial Artists.
He also searched the other henchmen corpses on the ground, packing up the valuables. He kicked the gambler, gesturing he could scram.
Then he swaggered out.
On the way out, he thoughtfully closed the door for them.
