Chapter 53: Rapid Advancement – Within Reach
“First, have Hu Xiang keep an eye on him for me.” Su Chen closed the bracelet only after getting Hu Xiang’s accurate reply.
He turned around and was about to enter the Gravity Chamber when his footsteps paused. He looked toward the door as if sensing something, and the knocking sounded again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“It’s really lively today.”
Su Chen opened the door and looked, his expression slightly stunned.
“Little Brother Su…” A middle-aged man stood at the door, not very tall, only reaching Su Chen’s shoulder, with a warm smile on his face.
“Section Chief Pan…?” Su Chen looked at the visitor, not expecting to meet him so soon.
The visitor was none other than Pan Yu.
“Why did you come suddenly?” Su Chen’s face showed no particular expression, just surprise.
“You’ve been in the Patrol Section for a while, and we brothers haven’t had a good chat yet.” Pan Yu chuckled teasingly, “What’s this, not welcoming me?”
“Of course not, please come in.” Su Chen stepped aside. The other’s successive covert actions proved he didn’t dare to act here.
“Are you getting used to living here?” Pan Yu looked around left and right, asking perfunctorily.
“Much better than before.” Su Chen turned his back to him, poured a glass of water, and thought it was a pity.
The other party had come too abruptly; he hadn’t prepared to act yet, so it wasn’t convenient to poison him.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Pan Yu sighed and got to the point, “Little Brother, you can see it too. I’m not really here to chat today.”
“To be honest, the City Lord is temporarily managing the Inspection Department, and everyone up and down is very cautious, afraid of making mistakes. The Seventeenth Patrol Team you’re in is still under my supervision.”
“This is really embarrassing…” He put on a troubled look, “You’ve been staying in the room, but the Patrol Team is fully staffed. It was fine when the Minister was around, but now…”
He sighed, helplessly saying, “Little Brother, can you understand your brother’s difficulties?”
“How about this? I absolutely won’t make you patrol every three days. Going out once a week is fine too. What do you think?”
Su Chen’s heart sank. So eager?
After a brief moment of thought, Su Chen immediately said, “No problem. I absolutely won’t make things difficult for you.”
“Good! I knew the Minister’s student would consider the Inspection Department.” Pan Yu immediately beamed with joy, “That Old Qin was all worried and hesitant about bringing it up.”
“I have nothing else. I’m leaving first.” Pan Yu seemed to have come only for this matter and left after achieving his goal.
Once in the elevator, his smile gradually faded, “Still too young.”
“I remember, Pan Yu’s profession is 【Shadow Concealment】.” Su Chen closed the door, thinking to himself that he needed to figure out the information on this profession.
Coincidentally, this matter wasn’t difficult for him at all.
As for patrolling? No way.
……
Su Chen trained day and night without stopping, undisturbed in his daily life, until he was interrupted several days later.
He opened the door and welcomed Sun Fatty in.
“Little Brother, with your perseverance, you’ll succeed at anything.” Sun Fatty flattered him as usual, then took out a Metal Box, “The potions you asked me to buy: ten tubes of Black Flame, twenty tubes of Spiritual Light.”
【Void Ripper Warrior】 progress needed to be faster. After reaching Second Order, these First Order potions wouldn’t be useful, so Su Chen reduced his Black Flame reserves.
“Thanks.” Su Chen took them. Sun Fatty then took out a stack of information and whispered, “This is the 【Shadow Concealment】 information.”
“This is all I gathered through indirect inquiries. I can’t directly access more specific profession information.”
“Thanks for the trouble, Brother Sun.” Su Chen reached out to take the information. What he cared about wasn’t the profession information itself, but its abilities and such.
Flipping through the information, he casually asked, “How is our Section Chief as a person?”
“Qin Cheng?” Sun Fatty curled his lip, “Extorts and takes bribes, proficient at everything, with a very bad temper, often scolding his subordinates.”
He paused, then frowned slightly, “Did he mess with you? I’ll talk to him.”
“No, just asking.” Su Chen chuckled and shook his head, “What about the Deputy Section Chief?”
Old Sun thought for a moment, “Pan Yu is a good person, well-regarded in the Inspection Department.”
Su Chen nodded to show he understood. Sun Fatty looked at him intently reviewing the information and couldn’t help but ask curiously:
“Aren’t you going to promote to 【Gale Hunter】? Why inquire about 【Shadow Concealment】? It’s just a Second Order Middle Tier profession.”
Su Chen explained, “Helping a friend in the team check it out. She just promoted to messenger and wants to lean more in this direction. If there’s a chance to promote later, it could save some effort.”
Sun Fatty’s small eyes darted, and he said, “Zhou Li?”
“Yeah.” Su Chen carefully flipped through the information in his hand.
“Little Brother, you’re quite blessed with romance.” Sun Fatty couldn’t help but envy him. Seeing how intently Su Chen was reading, he wanted to remind him not to get too emotionally invested.
Zhou Li was far above him; a casual fling would be fine.
But thinking of Jiang He who came to find him that night, he swallowed his words. With her experience, she probably didn’t need the reminder.
He said goodbye with a sour heart, reminding Su Chen to burn the information after reading it.
Soon after, flames flickered up. Su Chen fed the paper information into it, his face flickering uncertainly in the firelight, “Shadow Concealment… need to prepare well. Unfortunately, this guy is internal too, so poisoning will be hard to pull off.”
He glanced at the artificial light source outside the window, which had dimmed. On the panel—
【Void Ripper Warrior: 93%】
【Mystic Tool Master: 74%】
【Snake Shadow Body Tempering Method—Proficient: 95%】
【Star Light Meditation Method—Proficient: 10%】
Thanks to his Crimson Gold Talent in mental aspects, the proficiency of the Meditation Method always increased faster.
……
“There’s really no obvious anomaly.”
On the top floor, Zhang Hongbo flipped through the investigation information left by Yuan Chenyang. He had thought such a big fanfare investigation would yield at least some clues.
But after careful verification, there was nothing.
“How could this be? It’s a Strange Artifact at least.” Zhang Hongbo had the same doubt as Yuan Chenyang.
……
Just after burning the materials, as if planned, Pan Yu knocked on his door again.
This Deputy Section Chief squeezed out a smile on his face. This time, without even small talk, he got straight to the point: “Little Brother, when are you planning to go out on patrol?”
“Patrol?” Su Chen looked puzzled, “Didn’t I tell Captain Zhao? Just mark me absent.”
Yuan Chenyang had arranged him into the Inspection Department mainly for convenience. Old Sun, out of responsibility to his superiors, had arranged everything well for Su Chen.
But whether full attendance or not made no difference to him.
“This way, we follow the rules, and you won’t be in a difficult position.” Su Chen explained.
Pan Yu’s expression shifted, choked speechless, and he reluctantly said, “Yeah, as long as you don’t mind.”
“No big deal. I’ll leave the Inspection Department sooner or later anyway.” Su Chen didn’t care, “I still need to train here. See you out.”
Bang!
The door closed, and Pan Yu’s face stiffened, twitching faintly!
Damn it, daring to toy with me!
…
Soon after, Su Chen quietly opened the door and went to the small reception room on the first floor, where Hu Xiang was already waiting.
“What’s the situation?” Su Chen asked in a low voice, “What has Pan Yu been doing lately?”
“Nothing.” Hu Xiang frowned, “Two points and one line every day: work, home.”
“I can only track him secretly; can’t investigate in detail. If you think he really has issues, report it to internal review.”
“No…” Su Chen instinctively shook his head. This involved Space Crystal and the drained Strange Artifact.
If these two things were exposed, even Yuan Chenyang couldn’t withstand it.
