Chapter 25: Hu Xiang’s Horror: Why Is Nothing Happening?
The opponent seemed certain of his position, approaching within three meters from both sides, pausing briefly, then suddenly lunging.
Whoosh–
The sound of wind breaking came from the mist.
Chen Xing was also a Strongman, but with a well-proportioned build, a Perfect Job Appointment, possessing Professional Ability, 【Strength】 already activated.
Muscles tensed, skin taking on a faint red hue. Even though the opponent was just a Refugee, he didn’t relax, using the most reliable method to lunge and Attack.
The target was already right in front of him. Perhaps because their Attack was too sudden, the opponent hadn’t even reacted, with no trace of fear on his face.
“Indeed a fine skin…” he couldn’t help thinking, subconsciously holding back some force, afraid of killing the opponent.
The goal was to abduct, not Assassination.
But at that moment, the target slightly turned his head toward him, eyes showing not the slightest fear.
“Hm!” Chen Xing’s expression changed drastically, alarms blaring in his mind, realizing something was wrong.
Su Chen boldly activated 【Wind Erosion】 ability, having secretly charged it for a while. His right arm muscles tensed, fist clenched, waist twisting to drive his upper body.
Mist was drawn by the whirlwind swirling around his arm, smashing toward the attacker on the left.
Bang!
Fists collided, ripples spreading through the surrounding mist.
Rip!
Chen Xing’s eyelids twitched violently, face filled with horror. The clothes on his arm tore inch by inch, dense blood marks appearing on his skin, like cuts from a Small Knife, pain surging.
The Attack actually carried elemental power—what the hell kind of Profession was this?
Refugee? Bullshit Refugee!
The target’s performance didn’t match the Information at all.
Fortunately, they had come with two people this time.
Fortunately, he had always been cautious, attacking simultaneously.
This guy chose to block him, which meant he would surely suffer from his companion…
Chen Xing’s thoughts hadn’t settled when his eyes suddenly bulged.
Behind the target, strands like azure hair-like fibers condensed, appearing slow but actually forming an Azure Iron Cable at extreme speed.
Stretched taut like a Spear, as if controlled by invisible force, it suddenly thrust out.
Simultaneously, 【Mental Spike】 activated. Su Chen mobilized his Mental Power, condensing it into fine needles, stabbing fiercely.
The fat man’s face was full of terror, feeling his head struck heavily, vision going black.
Body inertia made it hard for him to retreat, as if he had crashed into it himself. His bulky body pierced through the azure shaft almost unhindered.
Chen Xing watched his companion’s dazed expression with wide eyes, seemingly still trying to struggle.
But immediately, azure fiber-like Iron Wire emerged from his skin surface.
He couldn’t help feeling chilled, even imagining the horrific sight of these hair-like things crisscrossing inside his body.
“You…” In that dazed moment, the target didn’t stop, smashing a fist toward his head.
Chen Xing hurriedly Blocked, but fear already gripped his heart, only wanting to flee.
Bang!
The corpse of his companion on the other side lost support and crashed heavily. He was startled, breaking out in cold sweat.
And on the opponent’s arm, an azure Arm Guard had somehow wrapped around it, with sharp spikes like brass knuckles at the finger joints.
Pfft!
This time, the opponent’s Attack pierced skin without Block, pain instantly spreading through his body.
Chen Xing’s eyes widened, Consciousness eroded by Darkness.
Left and right Assassination, dead in the blink of an eye.
“Perfect timing, Old Zhao had just left…” Su Chen retracted his stance, looking at the two corpses on the ground, brows furrowed.
“And pinpointed my position so accurately… Confirmed I was here, inside-outside collusion… Old Zhao?”
“No, if it was him, no need to leave; he could’ve just joined the Attack on me.”
“The one who assigned night watch positions and times was Hu Xiang—could it be…”
Su Chen speculated, feeling it tricky. If it was Hu Xiang, that would be Trouble.
This guy was clearly not a First Order Professional.
“But since he didn’t act personally, just made these Arrangements, it means he’s still wary…” Su Chen crouched down, searching the two corpses.
Soon he found a few items: a Wallet, several Potions. He quickly pocketed them and tossed the corpses a bit farther away.
………
After waiting a moment longer, Hu Xiang figured the Attack was over, then said, “Let’s go, to the scene.”
Old Zhao was silent. The two went one after the other to the night watch spot.
“Why are there bloodstains?” Hu Xiang stared at the blood marks on the ground, face grim. “Such idiots…”
Two Professionals attacking one Refugee, yet still couldn’t control their strength.
Old Zhao’s face was tense. “With bloodstains, Mist Nightmare won’t work well. If Investigation uncovers it…”
Mist Nightmare was a nearly invisible special creature that could possess living beings.
His face alert, he watched his Captain, fearing the new plan might implicate him too.
Hu Xiang noticed Old Zhao’s gaze, feeling sorrow. If not for the hefty price offered this time—which he desperately needed—he wouldn’t do this.
He sighed, “Then Corpse Turtle it is… Old Zhao, you need some wounds on you.”
City Patrol Guards on Patrol with students basically avoided dangerous places. Every dead student required a detailed report.
South Wind Academy would even send people for on-site examination.
Based on his experience, Hu Xiang arranged the scene adequately. Old Zhao clutched one arm, face pale.
Hu Xiang saw Old Zhao’s ugly expression and wanted to say something, but the Locator he gripped tightly suddenly flashed urgent, dangerous red light.
“Camp!”
Hu Xiang’s expression changed drastically. Not daring to delay, he grabbed Old Zhao, flames roaring around his body as he broke through the mist.
Moments later, the Camp was in sight. No Mutant Attack, but all City Patrol Guards were in highly vigilant combat stances.
“What happened!” Hu Xiang demanded sternly.
“C-Captain…” Old Zhao clutched his arm, staring stunned in the Camp’s direction.
Hu Xiang followed his gaze, steady expression nearly collapsing, a flash of horror in his eyes.
There stood Su Chen, whom he thought already abducted, quietly in the Camp center, watching them.
“How is he…” Hu Xiang blurted, then abruptly shut up.
“Old Zhao!” Su Chen strode forward, face concerned. “You okay? What happened to your arm…”
“N-Nothing…” Old Zhao avoided Su Chen’s eyes, mumbling vaguely.
“Captain Hu Xiang, what’s wrong with Old Zhao? Did you encounter danger?” Su Chen turned to Hu Xiang.
Hu Xiang’s eyes flickered with guilt and panic, unable to respond for a moment.
“Su Chen, what’s going on? What danger?” Zhou Zong questioned from afar, annoyed at being suddenly woken from sleep by Su Chen.
Others were drowsy and confused. Bai Fengxi stood at the back of the crowd, thoughtful.
“Shut up!” Hu Xiang barked deeply. “Old Zhao encountered danger, I scared it off. Su Chen’s right—not afraid of ten thousand, but the one possibility!”
Zhou Zong felt baffled. What was wrong with Hu Xiang? He had just complained once.
“Good as long as you’re fine…” Su Chen seemed relieved, then spoke with difficulty. “Captain Hu… my legs are still shaking. I want to rest a bit.”
He definitely wouldn’t night watch again. Hu Xiang was a Second Order Professional who could kill him with one hand.
Before Hu Xiang spoke, Zhou Zong jumped in coldly. “Your watch isn’t over. If everyone fears danger like you, no one guards.”
“Fine, rest tonight.” Hu Xiang didn’t hesitate, pointing at Zhou Zong. “You replace him.”
Zhou Zong was stunned. Had Hu Xiang lost his mind?
Others were baffled too. How much time had passed? Why was Hu Xiang increasingly favoring Su Chen?
Su Chen was surprised too, staring at Hu Xiang. This Reaction didn’t seem like deliberate framing.
He had been ready to tear face if Hu Xiang forced him to watch.
He didn’t believe this guy’s Control could make everyone keep quiet.
At least, he had some grasp on Bai Fengxi’s side.
But the current situation… was somewhat enigmatic.
Zhou Zong went annoyed to night watch. Su Chen returned to his small Tent, others gradually going back.
“The situation is bizarre…” Su Chen remarked.
Temporarily suppressing his doubts, he took out items from searching the corpses. Few Gold Coins in the Wallet, but two pale gold Cards.
“…South Wind Vault…” Su Chen stared at the text. “Bank card?”
“Wonder if it needs a password…” His predecessor had never touched such high-end stuff.
He turned to the remaining Potions—not Blood Activating Potion, color a deeper crimson with black sediment.
“Black Flame Potion?” Su Chen was unsure.
After robbing Potion from Zhou Zong last time, he had gone to the Library, cramming Potion knowledge to avoid getting good stuff without recognizing it.
Inverting the Potion, the black sediment reacted like to some Stimulate, blooming like fireworks in the bottle.
“It really is…” Su Chen grinned.
Though a First Order Potion, it was rarer than Blood Activating Potion, used when Profession Development Degree reached a point and progress slowed.
