Ultra Mage: The Weave Crashed Again at the Start – Chapter 13

Extraordinary Talent

Chapter 13: Extraordinary Talent

Berg said that those who assisted Land in guarding the pass were all believers or adventurers or residents with a sense of justice, without reward.

Anse was not surprised; the church’s appeal has always been strong.

The God of Justice Tyr belongs to the war domain, and His believers are famously good fighters, even if not professionals.

Berg beat around the bush, inquiring about the few people’s plans to stay or leave.

After discussing with Brat, Anse decided to stay for the time being, and Finn also said he was not in a hurry to leave.

This is a good opportunity to harvest experience, with a paladin backing them up, safety is guaranteed. Anyway, Dragon Bridge is right behind them, so they can withdraw at any time; Flame Fist wouldn’t go so far as to block the gate completely.

The old priest was very happy and immediately arranged accommodations for the three on the second floor of the church, providing food and drinking water for free.

One room for the three of them; judging by the layout, it should be the dormitory for clergy, very simple but clean.

The food is dry whole wheat bread and smoked pork strips, not great but plentiful enough that three people couldn’t finish it in a day.

It seems that during yesterday’s evacuation of the crowd, the church also collected or seized quite a bit of food; paladins have principles and bottom line, but they are not stubborn.

“Dong dong dong…”

Berg had just left when there was another knock at the door.

Brat went forward to open the door; it was Zahir covered in bloodstains, apparently not yet having time to wash up.

“Sorry, just finished. Thanks for your help; these are your loot.”

Zahir put down the two bundles in his hands; the burlap scattered open, revealing a pile of bloodstained miscellaneous items inside, the most eye-catching being a black warhammer.

“Thanks.” Anse smiled, not refusing.

In this world, adventure and combat are very common, and thus many customary rules have arisen, including loot distribution.

For example, if a paladin kills a duergar, he can return the wealth plundered by the duergar to its original owner or relatives, but they have no right to dispose of the personal belongings of monsters that died at Anse’s hands.

Unless everyone is a team, or there was prior agreement.

Earlier, Brat was injured, Finn was absent, and Anse was immersed in the “grief of his parents’ death”; the loot collection could only be handled by Zahir’s team.

They are believers of the God of Justice, so the possibility of them pocketing it is small.

“If you need any help, just come find me; I’m usually on the third floor or in the central hall.” Zahir has a mustache, his voice warm and unhurried, like a gentleman.

“Uncle Zahir, do you have any diamonds? I’ll trade with loot.” Anse was not polite either; he was short on spellcasting materials.

Zahir pondered: “There should be; I’ll have someone look in a bit. Anything else?”

“No.” Anse looked at Brat and Finn; both shook their heads at the same time.

“Then rest well; underground creatures dislike light, so they probably won’t come again during the day.” With that, Zahir hurried away; he had too many things to do.

Anse and the others exchanged glances, pulled over the bundles, and excitedly began inventorying the loot.

Anse and Brat’s loot was mixed together; there seemed to be quite a few things, but none worth much. Thinking about it, they killed slaves, so good stuff must have been confiscated.

A few crude scimitars, maces, and iron-rimmed round shields, stinking fur bracers, leather boots, and belts, unknown food and miscellaneous items… only fit to sell as trash.

Plenty of money bags, but most tattered, containing some worthless glass, copper coins, and a few silver coins.

The best was an elven-style gold-threaded money bag containing a few pieces of blue copper ore, eye agate, a dozen gold coins, and a healing potion.

“This should be from that ogre, and this.” Brat pointed to the half plate armor on the ground.

Three javelins went to Finn; the greatsword was probably kept by Land; the money bags and the most valuable half plate armor went to Anse—he still got the better deal.

This half plate armor is incomplete, only helmet and breastplate, but in decent condition.

“Half plate armor goes to you for now; adjust the locks and it should fit.” Anse is a spellcaster without relevant training; wearing armor affects spellcasting.

“Good.” Brat nodded; in extraordinary times, no need to be pretentious.

Anse put all the gold and silver coins and gemstones into the elven money bag and tucked it into his bosom; the heavy copper coins were left for Brat to carry.

That black warhammer came from the duergar warlord, a magic weapon, but no one could use it; could only deal with it later.

“Throw out the trash; no buyers now anyway, and it hinders movement.” Anse laughed.

“Got it.” Brat fiddled with the half plate armor, grinning without restraint.

At this time, there was a knock; a young priest delivered a small box to Anse, containing a silver necklace with a diamond pendant; the diamond was unpolished, about the size of his fingernail.

After confirming it was usable, the young priest turned and left, adding: This is a gift from Captain Land to you.

In today’s battle, Anse undoubtedly played a key role, seen by all; the church wanted to express thanks with a piece of artwork.

Anse was silent for a moment, then put on the necklace.

“At least worth two hundred gold coins,” Brat assessed. “Keep it; this thing is valuable only in your hands.”

“Yeah, let’s rest.” Anse waved his hand; since deciding to accept it, no need to dwell.

He chose the bed in the corner, took off his backpack, lay down fully, relaxed all over, and even his taut mind eased a bit.

From transmigration until now, this was the first time he felt a sense of security.

Brat felt the same; three berries weren’t enough to fully heal his wounds; rest was the best method.

Finn looked at them both, silently sat at the table, and nibbled on the bread.

Anse closed his eyes, his mind sinking into his thoughts; a silver twenty-sided die was slowly rotating.

To his delight, the second symbol on it was fully lit!

“As expected!”

He lightly tapped the die, and memory fragments surfaced in his mind one by one: camping, level up, combat, spellcasting, using magic items…

“Adventure experience, important events, or achievements?” He couldn’t figure it out, but at least he had a general direction.

Looks like he couldn’t stay cooped up anymore; experiencing more things was always good.

Moments later, the symbol turned into a small tree, floating above the die and swaying slightly.

Ding—

【You gain the adventure trait: Extraordinary Talent.】

「Extraordinary Talent」: You possess learning ability and talent far beyond ordinary people; every 2 levels, master one feat, source unlimited, type unlimited.

Anse was stunned: ‘Directly adjusting class rules?’

DND class rules grant attribute score increase feats or other qualifying feats every 4 levels, each significantly impacting personal strength.

He clicked the small tree, and a feat selection interface popped up with many types, but most were grayed out.

Feats are divided into four kinds: origin feats, general feats, fighting style feats, and legendary feats.

Origin feats relate to background and race, like a farmer’s Tough, with no prerequisites.

Other feats have prerequisites; only meeting them allows mastering the corresponding feat. For example, legendary feats require level 19, fighting style feats require relevant class features.

Although 「Extraordinary Talent」 didn’t say one must meet prerequisites, legendary feats and fighting style feats were still unselectable.

Anse looked around and locked his gaze on three feats: field spellcaster, spell sniper, and metal dragon gift.

Field spellcaster makes spellcasting steadier and faster, spell sniper makes spell range longer and more accurate, metal dragon gift enhances survivability.

Of course, he could also choose two attribute points, but the boost was less than a feat.

Thanks to Silver Spring, sXuan Yuan Yi Xing s, and other book friends for the rewards.
