Chapter 257: We Must Give Zeus A Profound Lesson!
There were also many goddesses who had prepared to watch the excitement, endlessly disappointed in their hearts.
After all, it seemed this excitement was about to end.
What a pity.
Hera was full of joy on her face, flying forward from afar to greet them, her heartfelt joy evident at a glance.
Before her two sisters could even approach, she spoke up: “Dear Hestia, dear Demeter, my dearest sisters, welcome your arrival!”
“I have already prepared divine wine and ambrosia, I… I really have so many words I want to say to you.”
However, as she drew near, she saw a faint trace of worry in elder sister Hestia’s eyes, while second sister Demeter was expressionless, her gaze cold.
Her smile froze on her face, her heart pounding with uncertainty, leaving her somewhat at a loss as she stood frozen in place.
Only to hear Demeter snort coldly, speaking in a bone-chilling tone: “Hah, Hera, my good little sister. You’ve certainly… done something big!”
Hera’s heart clenched sharply, no longer minding anything as she rushed forward anxiously: “My dear sister, I know, I know it was my fault! I apologize to you! Please, please hear my explanation!”
Demeter merely glanced at her coldly and scolded lightly: “What’s there to explain? With things as they are, what’s left to say?”
The poor Goddess of Reproduction’s eyes reddened instantly, hurriedly taking Demeter’s jade hand and gripping it tightly, eager to speak.
But at that moment, the ever-silent Hestia suddenly burst out laughing with a “pfft.”
She hurried forward, hugging the nearly tearful Hera, while chiding Demeter: “Alright, if you keep playing, it’ll really go too far. Don’t make our poor little sister anxious anymore—you see how worked up she’s gotten.”
Seeing this, Demeter’s icy pretty face instantly softened like spring returning to the earth, chuckling “hehe” as she playfully raised her brows, her face full of smugness.
She too stepped forward, hugging Hera from the other side, teasing: “Dear Hera, my good little sister, did I scare you? Were you panicking inside, afraid that sister was really angry with you?”
“You, oh you,” Demeter dotingly bumped her forehead gently against Hera’s, “you’re just too good—clearly not your fault, yet you always want to take on things that aren’t yours to bear.”
Only then did Hera realize her two sisters were teaming up to “bully” her, her nose tingling sharply as her eyes reddened with a smile.
She glared at them helplessly with a touch of coquetry like surviving a disaster, yet also let out a long sigh of relief, finally unburdened.
She hugged Demeter tightly, her delicate pink face affectionately rubbing against her sister’s cheek, speaking in a soft, nasal voice: “Dear Demeter, as long as you don’t blame me, that’s wonderful. Thank you, dear sister.”
Demeter gently hugged her back, saying in a matter-of-fact tone: “My dear little sister, this wasn’t your fault at all—what are you apologizing for?”
“We’re one divine family—we must be happily together forever. Now, you have a lovely child; this is a joyous event for our entire family.”
“If anyone must be blamed, it can only be Zeus’s fault. That bad guy always makes us sad for him.”
As Demeter spoke, a cunning glint flashed in her emerald eyes; she waved her little fist, looking determined to fight evil forces to the end, full of fighting spirit.
“I think we must give him a lesson, let him know that even the God King can’t do as he pleases!”
Hestia merely smiled silently beside them, but Hera immediately resonated, nodding vigorously: “Sister is right! That bad guy—we really should give him a profound lesson!”
Seeing her little sister “join in,” Demeter laughed even more smugly: “Exactly! For the next hundred years, we’ll all be together, not letting him into our divine palace! Let’s see if he gets anxious!”
Laughter like silver bells crisply echoed above the clouds, and Hera deeply agreed, nodding with a smile: “That’s a great idea—I fully support it!”
Hestia watched her two sisters finally untie their heart knots, restoring their former closeness and harmony, even united against a common enemy, feeling immensely relieved and comforted.
However, hearing their “brilliant plan,” she couldn’t help but douse them with a perfectly timed splash of cold water.
She seemed to ponder for a moment before slowly asking: “Are you sure this is a good idea? To me, it sounds like the worst idea possible.”
“Who knows how many goddesses are just waiting for you to bar Zeus from the door. You don’t let him in, but plenty of goddesses are lining up to invite him in.”
“You two, you’re really willing to push him straight into other goddesses’ arms.”
Demeter’s willow brows shot up as she snapped: “He wouldn’t dare!”
“If he really dares to do that, he’ll never set foot in my door again!”
Hestia clucked her tongue, her tone full of teasing: “Whether he dares or not, I don’t know. But I suspect that before you force that bad guy Zeus to bow his head and admit fault, the ones who’ll be anxious and frustrated first will be you two.”
“If he’s really entangled by other goddesses, how long can you endure not seeing him? A hundred years?”
With that, Hestia looked at her two lovely sisters with great interest.
Sure enough, their faces began to look a bit unnatural.
She continued teasing: “Ten years?”
“Or one year?”
“You can’t hold out even a month, can you?”
“And…” Hestia’s smile grew even gentler, but her words more “lethal.”
“I don’t think you two can really resist that bad guy’s persistent entanglement.”
These words were like a tiny needle gently popping two blustering, inflated balloons.
Demeter immediately flushed with shame and anger, pouncing to hug her elder sister’s slender waist and start coquetry: “Good big sister! You’re the one who dotes on Zeus the most!”
“We haven’t even done anything yet, and you’re already making excuses for him! You’re his biggest accomplice!”
Amid her good little sister’s tight embrace, Hestia helplessly spread her hands, her eyes full of amusement: “I’m not making excuses for him—everything I said is fact.”
“Even if you could steel yourselves and ignore him for a hundred years, in that time, that amorous and promiscuous bad guy might end up with several more wives and dozens of children.”
“I just think… you really should give this matter some serious thought.”
“But don’t worry,” she shifted tone, firmly stating her attitude, “no matter what decision you make, I’ll definitely support you. I guarantee I’ll advance and retreat with you!”
Hearing this, Demeter and Hera exchanged a tacit glance, understanding each other without words.
Then, Hera coughed lightly, taking the lead to find a way out, saying softly: “Sister does have a point… how about we table this matter for further discussion.”
“Cough cough—indeed, indeed! That cunning bad guy Zeus—giving him a truly profound lesson does require us to plan carefully and devise a foolproof, meticulous plan!” With the out, Demeter immediately followed suit.
This was a strategic retreat, not surrender!
After all, elder sister really made too much sense!
No one knows oneself better—talking tough about firmly barring Zeus from the door, but that bad guy just needs to pester a bit and say a few sweet words for one’s defenses to collapse on the spot.
As for Hera…
Ridiculous! If she herself couldn’t refuse Zeus, how could Hera possibly refuse?
As for their dearest elder sister… that was even more unrealistic.
Zeus just needed to say a couple soft words and casually coquetry, and elder sister would give in to him completely.
No method! The gentle flames had always been the best at indulging him!
Hera then took each of her two sisters’ hands, no longer joking, and said softly: “Good sisters, no more staying in heaven—come to my divine palace quickly. Divine wine and ambrosia are long prepared; let’s go inside the hall to talk in detail.”
But Demeter smiled sweetly, shaking her head gently: “Today, let’s chat and relax somewhere else.”
“Hm?” Hera was slightly puzzled.
Demeter gazed toward the distant earth, her emerald eyes bright: “Let’s go to the mortal world. To see those newborn humans.”
Hera had no objection, nodding: “That works too—I’ve always wanted to see this new race, it’s just…”
At this point, this kind Great Mother Goddess’s flawless, luminous white jade face quietly flushed with an untimely charming pink.
Uncontrollably recalling that sacred union lasting three hundred thirty-three days, which had immersed all her divinity in rapture.
Once accepting her beloved God King, the pleasure and joy he brought were unforgettable even if she tried.
During this time alone, she always uncontrollably thought of it, each time filling her with love and resentment, shame and longing.
She had always loved Zeus the most. Eternally unchanging, until death.
Hera hurriedly shook off her thoughts, saying: “Let’s go right now—I’m curious about humans too.”
Demeter felt slightly odd, but Hestia understood perfectly.
She quickly chimed in to bail out her little sister: “Then let’s set off. Those children—they’re different from the divine realm. I believe you’ll all come to love these lovely children.”
Hera nodded eagerly, and Demeter thought no more.
The three great Mother Goddesses set off at once, descending together to examine the nascent human race.
Meanwhile, in the Temple of Fertility, Leto and Asteria, having prepared everything, watched wide-eyed as the three Great Mother Goddesses departed simply without even a single nymph, just like that.
