Chapter 15: Like Father, Like Son
Cronus, in the name of his God King and Lord of All Gods status, plus his own authority inherently tied to Earth, made the new gestation-related fertility laws reasonable and seemingly beyond reproach.
Cronus eroded Mother Goddess Gaia’s divine authority and directly devoured the laws; Mother Goddess Gaia was extremely dissatisfied but ultimately endured it.
After all, they couldn’t overthrow another God King over something like this, right? The cost would be too great.
As for Rhea Mother Goddess, this pitiful mother, pitiful Goddess Queen.
She was a gentle Titan not skilled in battle; facing the God King’s atrocity of devouring her children, she alone could not resist Cronus.
No matter how she persuaded or bitterly begged, it was all in vain; she could only watch helplessly as it happened, shedding futile tears, her inner pain indescribable.
But Mother Goddess Gaia’s compromise only made Cronus more brazen and even more pushing one’s luck.
Over the long years, the six Giants exiled to the vast, empty starry sky could no longer endure the loneliness after a long time.
The vast, desolate starry sky was better than Tartarus.
But only by a little.
That boundless solitude similarly drove the gods to despair.
They immensely missed the Mother Goddess’s embrace, so they wreaked havoc in the starry sky, both to vent their pent-up power and in hope of returning to Earth this way and attracting the gods’ attention.
Then, they were used by Cronus as an excuse to unite with the Titans and once again thrown into Tartarus! This time it was complete imprisonment.
Now, Cronus felt completely secure, with no worries left.
This action thoroughly enraged Mother Goddess Gaia; previously, the Giants were exiled to the starry sky because they erred first, and though Mother Goddess was dissatisfied, she had nothing to say.
But now, it was just for destroying some toys, yet they received such cruel punishment—this was too much!
You secretly eroded my authority, and I said nothing, but what are you doing now?
You did something to your children, and I said nothing, but you treat even my children this way!
Mother Goddess Gaia negotiated several times, but Cronus brushed them all off perfunctorily.
In the end, Cronus’s concession was merely to have the female sea demon Campe, whose literal meaning is “bent”), go “care for”( in truth guard) the Giants—this was further humiliation.
Pontus’s child, would she dare say no to any command from the God King?
Cronus’s actions had completely trampled Mother Goddess’s bottom line; that ancient tolerance and endurance were wearing away.
Mother Goddess was now completely disappointed in Cronus.
This child was becoming more and more like his Father God, equally brutal and greedy.
But now, Cronus was too powerful.
He now possessed authorities of creation, agriculture, growth, harvest, bountiful harvest, reaping, courage, fertility, breeding, and fire.
Plus Cronus had numerous supporters, making his rule increasingly stable.
Mother Goddess Gaia, whose authority was now fragmented, truly had no method to do anything to Cronus.
Once Cronus realized no one could do anything to him, he naturally wouldn’t restrain himself and would only become more unrestrained.
It could only be said that he and Heavenly Father were truly cut from the same cloth; the greedy God King Cronus still felt it wasn’t enough.
Within the current cosmic order, he temporarily couldn’t act directly against the like-minded Titans, so he looked elsewhere.
The basic elements composing cosmic existence—earth, water, fire, air—these were the foundations Cronus must master on his path to centralization.
He had already controlled fire; the next step was to control water.
But the time wasn’t right yet; his relationship with Ocean God Oceanus was sensitive, so he couldn’t act now to avoid major turmoil.
As for Pontus, this inner sea within the world, it was insignificant and not worth hurrying over; it could be dealt with later.
He had a more desirable, better target.
Of everything in the universe, only two concepts could no longer birth spirituality and could only exist as foundational cosmic laws, manipulated by the gods.
These two were naturally the Lord of Darkness, incarnation of the void Erebus; and the Lord of Mountains, incarnation of mountains Ourea.
Mountains’ power was closely tied to Earth and now fully under Mother Goddess Gaia’s control; Cronus didn’t dare target it yet.
Moreover, the mountains law wasn’t that important, completely subordinate to Earth Mother Goddess and unable to provide core control.
Cronus naturally wanted darkness more.
One of the universe’s most foundational, primordial, and powerful laws.
Anyway, the Night Pantheon was now weak and isolated; Night God Nyx was easy to bully.
So he unceremoniously began eroding the authority of darkness.
As for Lady of Night’s former help.
What help? That was in the past.
This time, he was even more greedy, utterly disregarding their former camaraderie in battle.
After a time unimaginably long for mortals, he and Rhea created the God of “Gloom,” holding laws of dimness, gloom, twilight darkness, deep darkness, shadows, and such.
Primordial God Lady of Night Nyx was extremely angry about this, but she had no method.
After all, relative to the Celestial Pantheon, she was ultimately an outsider.
The isolated Night Pantheon could not possibly oppose the powerful Celestial Pantheon; the power gap was too great.
Now even Mother of All Gaia couldn’t do anything to the second-generation God King; what could a Night God who never entered the power core do?
She could only endure.
But her rage burned fiercer, her heart scorched like by blazing fire.
Back then Heavenly Lord Uranus bullied me! With great difficulty we overthrew him, yet you Son of Uranus bully me too!
Wasn’t that overthrowing for nothing?
This filled her with extreme unwillingness, along with ultimate sarcasm and humiliation.
After gestating Gloom, Cronus still unceremoniously devoured this newborn law, fully absorbing its power.
No matter how Mother Goddess Rhea tried to dissuade him, the God King remained resolute; his will was unbreakable, cold and ruthless.
After Lady of Night Nyx swallowed her anger, Cronus became even more unrestrained.
Even primordial gods can’t do anything to me; what can the other gods do?
In his view, in the known universe, no god dared oppose him anymore.
The second-generation God King was becoming more like his father, not just in greed and brutality; as he grew more powerful, even his arrogance was identical.
Thus, the second-generation God King grew even greedier, his ambition boundless.
Under God King Cronus’s deliberate gestation direction, he and Goddess Rhea gave birth to(contention) for new “seas and oceans.”
Even “earthquakes”—the pulsations from Earth’s depths.
