Chapter 41: Another Victory
In the combat command room of the radar base, Captain Shi Xiaoyong of the information squadron was complaining to his superior, base commander Zhang Guangzhi.
“What do those Wolf Fang people mean? They won’t let us do this, or that. If that’s the case, our information combat squadron might as well just withdraw from the exercise!”
Shi Xiaoyong was extremely unhappy inside.
They had finally managed to pull off some electronic interference, but before it could show its full power, it was reported to the leader by Gao Zhong Dui of Wolf Fang on the grounds of disrupting their combat plan.
They were even told to shut down their own big killer weapon. How could they tolerate that? They were counting on this exercise to shine.
Zhang Guangzhi smiled wryly: “What’s the use of complaining to me? If you have the guts, go make a fuss with the leader at the command post. Who told us our battle record isn’t as impressive as Wolf Fang’s?
Now the Red Team’s reconnaissance unit has been mostly wiped out by Wolf Fang people leading the search team. Do you think the leader won’t side with them?”
“Is this all Wolf Fang’s credit? If your communications hadn’t been so effective, and we hadn’t intercepted with electronic interference, could they have caught the Red Team’s scouts so easily?
I think they’re the typical type who eat from the bowl and then curse the cook, burning bridges after crossing the river!”
Seeing Shi Xiaoyong getting emotional, Zhang Guangzhi quickly persuaded: “Alright, alright. It’s no big deal. We can endure it if we have to. After all, we’re logistics personnel.
Besides, their level is higher than ours. They’re directly under the military region. We have no choice but to swallow this malice.”
Although Zhang Guangzhi hadn’t suffered like Shi Xiaoyong had, putting himself in his shoes, he wasn’t comfortable either.
If Wolf Fang didn’t have logistics personnel like them cooperating, could they have such an impressive battle record?
“Hmph, anyway, I’ll remember this!”
After saying that, Shi Xiaoyong stormed out of the tent angrily. This time their information combat squadron had been wronged, but the mission issued by superiors still had to be carried out. He had to go supervise it.
“Sigh, this old Shi.”
As old partners, Zhang Guangzhi knew him too well. He was fine in every way, just petty and held grudges.
By coincidence, Shi Xiaoyong’s angry appearance was spotted by Chang Ning and his two companions who were infiltrating the base.
This was a barracks. Would an ordinary soldier dare run around the camp like that? Moreover, this guy’s military rank was a major—a typical big fish.
So the question was, what had made that major so angry? Was there something important in that tent?
The three exchanged glances and saw the same idea in each other’s eyes. Even if the tent the major had come out of wasn’t the command post, infiltrating it might yield some gains.
“Here’s the plan: Chen Pai, you and Xiao Zhuang take out that major. I’ll go check out that tent.”
Chang Ning said to Chen Guotao. After all, he wasn’t the commander, so he could only make suggestions to Chen Guotao.
“No way. Who knows if there are still soldiers in the tent? If you go in alone and leak the news, we definitely won’t get out.”
Chen Guotao rejected Chang Ning’s suggestion, but he still came up with a compromise.
“You and Xiao Zhuang go together. I’ll handle that major.”
As Mr. Lu Xun said, Chinese people are best at the middle way. They often like compromises in doing things.
For example, to demolish a house, if the owner disagrees, but you say just demolish the gate, the owner will agree.
“Okay, Xiao Zhuang and I will go together.”
After simply making the plan, the three split up to act.
Gao Zhong Dui followed the traces left by Chang Ning and his two companions to the boundary of area 321.
“Captain, they left area 321.”
The soldier responsible for tracking reported the result to Gao Zhong Dui.
“The missile unit in area 321 was taken out by them. There’s nothing of strategic value there anymore. The Red Team’s three little punks definitely won’t stay.
Can you tell which direction they ran?”
Gao Zhong held his gun, his face showing fatigue. He and Miao Lian were from the same enlistment class. Though his skills hadn’t declined much, he wasn’t young anymore.
“From the traces, they ran toward area 322.”
Hearing the soldier’s answer, Gao Zhong Dui shot to his feet. Their Blue Team’s radar base and information combat squadron were right in area 322.
“Damn it, I should have thought of it earlier!
Communicator.”
“Here!”
“Send a telegram to the radar base. Tell them to be careful. Three Red Team scouts have reached their area. Tell them to stay vigilant!”
“Yes!”
‘Hope it’s not too late.’
Gao Zhong Dui was filled with worry. He only hoped his warning was timely enough, at least to let the radar base hold out until they arrived.
“Everyone, I know you’re all tired, but the situation is urgent. Everyone, push a little harder and catch those three Red Team little punks!”
“Yes!”
The squad led by Gao Zhong Dui this time consisted of soldiers from the group army’s special captain unit. Though their strength was a notch below Wolf Fang, they were much stronger than the search team.
“This is the radar base. What did you say?
……
I got it.”
Zhang Guangzhi received Gao Zhong Dui’s report and didn’t take it seriously. They were logistics soldiers, sure, but that didn’t mean they had no combat power!
This base had over 500 soldiers. Even piling them up could smother those three scouts.
That’s what he said, but Zhang Guangzhi clearly overlooked that soldiers serious enough for Gao Zhong Dui to warn about couldn’t be ordinary.
Chang Ning and Xiao Zhuang carefully avoided the patrolling soldiers and sneaked up to the back of the tent. Chang Ning pulled out a flashbang grenade and held up three fingers to Xiao Zhuang.
Xiao Zhuang nodded, indicating he understood.
Three, two, one!
His ring finger folded down. Xiao Zhuang suddenly lifted the curtain, and Chang Ning pulled the pin and tossed the flashbang grenade into the tent.
Zhang Guangzhi locked eyes with Chang Ning and Xiao Zhuang. The atmosphere became a bit awkward.
Three seconds later, the flashbang grenade exploded. Zhang Guangzhi temporarily lost his vision, and his head buzzed.
Chang Ning and Xiao Zhuang wouldn’t let the lieutenant colonel in front of them go. The two quickly moved forward—one covered his mouth, the other bound him. Division of labor clear, actions swift.
“Woo woo… woo…”
With his mouth gagged, Zhang Guangzhi’s heart sank. He hadn’t expected the Red Team’s scouts to move so fast. He’d just received the news when he was captured right after.
The effect of the flashbang grenade slowly faded. Zhang Guangzhi saw two camo-faced scouts rummaging for something.
“Chang Ning, I’ve handled my side.”
At that moment, Chen Guotao hurried in. He glanced at Zhang Guangzhi on the ground and focused his gaze on Chang Ning.
It was just a lieutenant colonel. He’d just personally taken down a major!
“Chen Pai, perfect timing. Take a look at these documents—which ones are useful?”
As if two new recruits could tell useful intelligence. Chang Ning and Xiao Zhuang hadn’t learned much yet.
“Got it.”
Chen Guotao didn’t waste words and started flipping through his documents right in front of Zhang Guangzhi.
Ten o’clock at night and
