Chapter 33: Meet
In just a few short minutes, Chang Ning eliminated the team that had blocked his path ahead. He had no time to check if he had missed anyone, as support from the Blue Team search team behind him was about to arrive.
“Want to run? Not that easy!”
As soon as Chang Ning passed their position, a black shadow tackled him from the side—it was the Squad Leader. The remaining two Corporals saw the Squad Leader successfully grab him and piled on Chang Ning as well, the four of them stacked like a human tower.
If it weren’t for the fact that he had fought too urgently earlier and had no bullets left now, Chang Ning would have long since eliminated these three.
“Damn it!”
They didn’t even give Chang Ning a moment to react—he only saw a black shadow lunging at him before he was pinned to the ground.
Immediately after, Chang Ning felt suffocated, the weight on him clearly increasing as the other two piled on.
“Kid, I told you you couldn’t escape.”
The Squad Leader spoke in broken gasps, breathing unevenly himself with two people still on top of him, though he was better off than Chang Ning.
“That’s not necessarily true!”
Hearing Chang Ning’s confident words, the search team’s Squad Leader instinctively sensed trouble. Chang Ning didn’t give him time to react and directly shoved off the three people on top of him with force.
Chang Ning didn’t know if his stamina had a limit. But through his tests, he discovered his strength had become quite formidable—like just now with those three stacked on him, he could easily flip them off, just expending a bit more effort.
Having flipped them all off, Chang Ning had no time for banter with the three—he gave each one a bullet and eliminated them, sparing himself the trouble.
Chang Ning didn’t take their weapon equipment; his own supplies were still ample, enough to sustain him until the exercise ended.
“Chase him quick, don’t let him get away!”
Chang Ning had calculated well—after wiping out the blocking search team, he would have time to escape, but who knew this group would be so sneaky.
Time was wasted just like that, allowing five search teams from behind to catch up.
But it wasn’t a big problem—with Chang Ning’s stamina, shaking off the search teams behind was just a matter of time. The jungle had too many things blocking shooting lines of sight, and with Chang Ning’s slick movement, the search team watched helplessly as he vanished before their eyes.
“That kid can run too well.”
The search team’s soldier stared in the direction Chang Ning disappeared, licking his dry lips—he had never seen anyone who could run like that.
After going through two battles front and back, with nonstop rushing in between, logically that kid’s stamina should be nearly depleted.
But he still looked full of energy, and even they—who hadn’t expended any stamina—couldn’t catch up when he ran. Where did the Red Team find such a pervert!
“Don’t worry, can he really escape from our turf?”
“But he already annihilated two of our teams.”
At this moment, someone in the team spoke up insensitively, stating the plain truth. Everyone looked at the Private who spoke the truth with strange expressions—this would have been considered disrupting morale in ancient times, enough to drag him out and use him to rally the troops.
“Forget I said that, forget I said that.”
The Private also realized his words were inappropriate and said weakly, shrinking his neck.
The Squad Leader pretended not to hear him and directly ordered the communications soldier to contact search teams in other areas to watch for activity in their respective zones.
Chang Ning had now left the 321 area, and continuing the chase—no one could guarantee he wasn’t deliberately stringing them along, possibly a ploy to lure the tiger from its mountain.
The Red Team had pulled this trick last time—falling into the same pit twice would be too embarrassing.
“Finally shook those guys off.”
Seeing no pursuers behind him, Chang Ning ran a few more kilometers forward for safety before stopping. He then climbed a lush, towering tree, using its dense canopy to conceal himself.
Looking around, seeing no flaws, Chang Ning finally relaxed.
What he didn’t know was that he alone had alerted all the Blue Team Heartland search teams—everyone knew a formidable opponent had invaded their turf, having annihilated two search teams, pressing them single-handedly.
It was like slapping their faces “smack smack”—this couldn’t stand; they had to teach that kid a lesson!
This was the consensus of all search teams. They hadn’t found Chang Ning yet, but the sudden increase in search intensity caused other Red Team reconnaissance units to suffer, with many captured.
At this moment, whether Blue Team search teams or Red Team scouts, they were all cursing Chang Ning bloody murder in their hearts. They thought, where did this troublemaker come from—both sides’ combat plans had made subtle adjustments due to his influence.
Because Chang Ning was in the Blue Team’s heartland, and the Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company only had him, Xiao Zhuang, and Chen Guotao left, the Red Team had no idea who did it.
The Blue Team knew because Chang Ning had identified himself. But with the exercise not over, they couldn’t tell the Red Team.
So Chang Ning’s actions were completely unknown to his own side—Miao Lian was still worrying about the Night Tiger Reconnaissance Company having penetrated behind enemy lines with no activity at all.
Normally, this situation meant more ill than good, but he hadn’t given up—maybe a miracle would happen.
He thought again that his opponent this time was his old comrade Gao Zhong Dui, and they knew each other too well—Miao Lian’s bad premonition grew stronger.
In the Blue Team Heartland, over a dozen Blue Team soldiers had gathered under the tree where Chang Ning was resting. They aimed their guns at the person in the tree.
“Hey, wake up!”
Hearing someone call him, Chang Ning jolted and nearly fell from the tree.
All along the way, his nerves had been on edge; after escaping and slightly relaxing, exhaustion hit, and he fell asleep.
“Damn it, how did I fall asleep!”
Chang Ning wanted to slap himself twice. Looking at the search team below with guns raised, he really wanted to cry—he had finally escaped, only to be surrounded again because he fell asleep.
“So how did you guys find me?”
Chang Ning’s words made the search team laugh.
To find Chang Ning, who had slapped their faces, their search was exhaustive, throwing grenades even into deeper pools they passed to check.
If Chang Ning were hiding in the tree under normal circumstances, they might have missed him, but with everyone searching so meticulously now, how could they let him hide easily.
“You hid so obviously—why wouldn’t we find you? Cut the crap, don’t think about escaping. Now slowly climb down from the tree.”
The search team wouldn’t waste time chatting with Chang Ning—they just wanted to capture him and wash away the shame!
“Alright, alright. I’m coming down right now.”
Chang Ning wasn’t one to surrender easily, unless there was truly no way out.
