Chapter 29: On Spirit Hall
“Whatever, just break their legs and it’ll be fine.”
Xing couldn’t figure it out, so she simply stopped thinking about it. A baseball bat appeared in her hand out of thin air, sparking as she smashed it toward the three men’s legs.
“Martial Spirit Possession, first… Ah!!!”
The three men’s resistance was as laughable as an ant trying to stop a chariot. In just a few breaths, their legs were broken, and they knelt on the ground, unable to get up.
They were immensely grateful that this ‘foolish’ girl was pure enough; otherwise, Tianya and Lao E’s fifth legs would have been in jeopardy like Bule’s.
Meng Huaifeng brought the two to find Xing just in time to see her looting spoils from the three scoundrels.
“A Xing, what are you doing? Robbing?” March 7th exclaimed. She hadn’t seen her for just a short time, and Xing had already learned to be bad?
“Sirs, are you alright? We’re very sorry.” Dan Heng apologetically helped Bule up.
“I didn’t; they’re not good people. They said they wanted to explore the mysteries of the human body with me.” Xing said righteously, recounting how these three had tricked her.
“What mysteries of the human body?” March 7th didn’t understand for a moment.
Don’t think Dan Heng was that aloof; he actually had a bit of a secretive side and understood immediately. He pushed the helped-up Bule back down to the ground.
If not for seeing that Xing had already beaten them once, Dan Heng would have taken out Ji Yun and stabbed a few holes in them.
“Hand these three over to Spirit Hall.” Meng Huaifeng said.
“Isn’t Spirit Hall a civilian organization? Not handing them to the officials?” Dan Heng frowned.
“Spirit Master matters are not handled by the officials. If they were willing to join the officials, they might even be made nobles.” Meng Huaifeng sneered.
The three men’s legs were broken by Xing, making it inconvenient to take them to Spirit Hall, so they simply knocked them out. Meng Huaifeng carried one, Dan Heng one in each hand, and they headed to Spirit Hall.
Along the way, Meng Huaifeng gave the three a detailed introduction to Spirit Hall, from free Martial Spirit Awakening to the distribution of Spirit Master subsidies, and the suppression of Evil Spirit Masters.
“Without Spirit Hall’s deterrence, the Two Great Empires would have rotted away long ago.” Meng Huaifeng sighed.
“If Spirit Hall doesn’t do Martial Spirit Awakening, the various empires and kingdoms would. The money for Spirit Master subsidies also comes from the Two Great Empires. What is Spirit Hall?” Not sure if his hand was too light, but Lao E had woken up at some point and interjected.
Spirit Hall’s main targets were disreputable rogue Spirit Masters, and these three clearly belonged to that category, so they naturally had no goodwill toward Spirit Hall.
“Heh. Who told you to interject?”
Meng Huaifeng sneered twice and slapped Lao E unconscious again with one palm.
Dan Heng could clearly understand the key point; without Spirit Hall, would the Two Great Empires provide that money? Martial Spirit Awakening would probably charge fees too.
“Wait, if I remember correctly, Huai Feng, didn’t you say before that Spirit Hall is the villain?” March 7th asked puzzled.
“From the perspective of the feudal aristocracy and Tang San, Spirit Hall suppresses the empires and sects, taking benefits from them to give to those mud-legged folks; yes, they’re the villains.” Meng Huaifeng spread his hands.
“So, such an excellent organization with ideology, benefits, action, and popular support was in the future labeled as villains by this world’s feudal aristocracy and protagonist Tang San and destroyed?” Dan Heng thought this was completely inconsistent with the developmental laws of historical processes.
“No choice; the gods above were biased and intervened. This world’s gods need faith, and the more ignorant people are, the easier it is to generate faith. The gods don’t allow this world to develop. Individual great power overrides the social collective.” Meng Huaifeng said.
If not for the Aeons of the Honkai: Star Rail World all walking the paths of Destiny and not needing faith, the Honkai: Star Rail World couldn’t have developed such a brilliant cosmic civilization.
“These gods are really shameless.” March 7th cursed.
“Can I beat them?” Xing was eager to try.
“It doesn’t matter; the Nameless will take action. Now that we’re here, in a few years, once the two worlds connect, those corrupt gods will naturally be settled.” Dan Heng comforted.
“Was that Tang San’s Martial Spirit also awakened by Spirit Hall? Did he receive the benefits Spirit Hall gives to low-level Spirit Masters?” March 7th asked curiously.
“Yes, he received them all, without fail every month.” Meng Huaifeng nodded in confirmation.
( ̄_ ̄|||).
March 7th’s expression was like this. Recalling her two encounters with Tang San, she felt a chill: “We’d better not deal with that Tang San anymore.”
Over the next few consecutive days, the four strolled around Suotuo City during the day and went to the Grand Soul Arena at night to gain combat experience.
After a few days, the four had a deeper understanding of the Douluo Continent and a real sense of what Meng Huaifeng had described.
In their spare time strolling, the enthusiastic March 7th and Xing also took on a few commissions from Suotuo City residents, earning a total reward of one hundred thirty-seven Silver Soul Coins.
That’s right, just one hundred thirty-seven Silver Soul Coins, barely more than one Golden Soul Coin.
This showed that the living standards of ordinary people and Spirit Masters were worlds apart.
After participating in Soul Fighting again today, March 7th stretched lazily and said, “We’ve pretty much toured Suotuo City. Should we go play somewhere else next? Suddenly having no seven-day time limit and so much time feels a bit unaccustomed.”
“The city we’re in now is just a kingdom’s capital; we should visit the capitals of the Two Great Empires, and Spirit City too.” Meng Huaifeng said.
“It’s not just humans; ecology and species are also part of our pioneering. The planets we’ve visited before were pioneered by seniors, with ecology and species roughly recorded in the Knowledge Base, so we didn’t need to worry. But now we’re personally pioneering a brand-new planet, so we should try to be comprehensive.” Dan Heng said.
“Huh? So troublesome? Then how did the seniors before manage to pioneer a brand-new planet in seven days?” March 7th asked in surprise.
“It’s said that there were more than one Stellar Train before, and each train had hundreds of Nameless. With so many Nameless, grouped in twos or threes according to their preferences and scattering out, exploring a normal planet in seven days was more than enough.” Dan Heng explained.
“But now we only have four people.” Xing held up four fingers.
“The time given to us this time is also long; no rush, take it slow.” Dan Heng said.
“How about going to Sunset Forest next? See what this world’s Soul Beasts are like, and witness how Spirit Masters absorb Soul Rings.” Meng Huaifeng’s eyes turned, saying with some ill intent.
He didn’t like this world’s protagonist Tang San to begin with, let alone having formed grudges twice right after arriving in this world. Not killing him, couldn’t he at least trip him up a bit?
Once the Immortal Herbs were collected, he’d see if this Tang San could still shine at the Continental Spirit Master Academy Elite Tournament.
