Chapter 24: Enemies On A Narrow Road
“Weapons other than Martial Spirits are prohibited in the Soul Fighting Arena. You can’t use a baseball bat,” Meng Huaifeng whispered a reminder.
“Huh?” Xing was stunned. In his excitement, he’d forgotten about that. Without his baseball bat, was he still Galaxy Bat Man?
This was a question worth pondering, and the staff had professionally registered Xing.
“Here is your Soul Fighting Badge. In the future, you only need to show your badge when you come to the Grand Soul Arena,” the staff member handed Xing a metal badge.
Xing dazedly accepted the badge.
“Then what nickname should I choose? It’s so hard to think of one!” March 7th asked for help.
“Why not just use your online name?” Meng Huaifeng suggested.
“No! The thought of people calling me by my online name in front of so many people is too embarrassing,” March 7th refused without a second thought.
“Then how about Ice-Frozen Girl?” Xing suggested.
“What kind of lame nickname is that?” March 7th asked with disgust.
“Nicknames usually reflect a person’s characteristics. Your Martial Spirit is Six Phases Ice, so ice is a must. You also use a bow and arrow, so why not call yourself Ice Archer?” As he spoke, the corners of Meng Huaifeng’s mouth couldn’t help but curl up.
“Although it really reflects my characteristics, I feel something is a bit off,” March 7th looked at Meng Huaifeng suspiciously and continued, “Besides, aren’t weapons not allowed? My ice can form the bow body, but what about the bowstring? I’d rather be called Memory of Ice.”
March 7th said to the staff member, “Memory of Ice, March 7th, Martial Spirit: Six Phases Ice, Level 39.”
The staff member wrote like flying and quickly finished the registration, handing March 7th a metal Soul Fighting Badge as well.
“Cloud Knight Recruit, Meng Huaifeng, Martial Spirit: Mobile Phone, Level 39,” Meng Huaifeng stated.
“Your nickname isn’t as imposing as mine!” Xing said with a sense of superiority.
“Do you think people know what ‘Galaxy’ means? Does baseball even exist in this world?” Meng Huaifeng glanced at Xing sideways.
Xing glanced at the staff member, who gave an awkward yet polite smile: “I apologize, guest, your nickname is indeed a bit obscure and difficult to understand.”
The staff member’s added jab instantly defeated Xing, leaving him slumped in disappointment.
Meng Huaifeng’s mobile phone played some music fitting the occasion.
“Snowflakes flutter~ North wind whistles~, the world is vast~”
“No~!”
“I want to change my nickname! Change it to Destroyer Kid,” Xing said to the staff member.
“I apologize, but information cannot be changed once registered. Of course, you can also spend ten gold coins to register a new identity,” the staff member tried to earn more money from the four of them.
“Then forget it. I still think Galaxy Bat Man is better. It’s enough that I understand it myself,” Xing’s demeanor changed instantly.
“Guest, and you?” The staff member had finished registering Meng Huaifeng and looked at the last person.
“Dan Heng, Martial Spirit: Azure Dragon, Level 39,” Dan Heng said concisely.
“Hey? Dan Heng, what about your nickname?” March 7th asked curiously.
“I don’t need one,” Dan Heng replied.
“That won’t do! Everyone has a nickname, you should have one too,” March 7th disagreed.
“Yeah, you can’t be out of sync with us and isolate the three of us,” Xing interjected.
Dan Heng’s face showed a pained expression. Isolate you? If anyone were to be isolated, it would be him.
Thinking of nicknames was troublesome, and Dan Heng hated trouble.
“How about I help you think of one?” Meng Huaifeng offered.
“Okay, I’ll leave it to you,” Dan Heng said indifferently. Judging by the nickname Meng Huaifeng had chosen for himself, he was quite reliable.
“Cold-Faced Little Azure Dragon, please register,” Meng Huaifeng said to the staff member.
“Wait…” Dan Heng was startled and tried to stop him.
“Registration successful, guest, here is your metal Soul Fighting Badge.” The staff member’s efficiency was truly high.
“…Never mind,” Dan Heng was too lazy to argue.
The registration ended. Except for Meng Huaifeng, the other three had signed up for 1v1 matches. After they finished, Meng Huaifeng pulled March 7th to the 2v2 registration counter.
“We want to register for 2v2,” Meng Huaifeng handed his and March 7th’s metal Soul Fighting Badges to another staff member.
“The registration fee is ten gold coins. If you win, you will receive an additional ten gold coins. Please give your team a name,” the staff member said.
“You do it,” Meng Huaifeng said to March 7th.
“Me? Then… how about Princess of Ice and Snow and Her Knight Combination?” March 7th thought for a long time and finally had a flash of inspiration.
“I think that’s fine,” Meng Huaifeng confirmed.
To his surprise, the staff member rolled his eyes and said in a low voice, “The team name is too long. Please keep it within five characters.”
“Why is that? Then how about Princess and Knight Combination?” March 7th said with some disappointment.
“Team established, registration successful. You can go to the waiting area to await notification.” Another line of five characters was engraved on their metal Soul Fighting Badges, bearing the words Princess and Knight.
With the strength of Xing, March 7th, and Dan Heng, the 1v1 matches were a foregone conclusion.
Xing activated his three Amplification Soul Skills. Unable to use his baseball bat, he landed two punches with his fists, quickly defeating his opponent.
After Martial Spirit Possession, Dan Heng pointed his sword, and a water dragon sent his opponent away. His stern face attracted the screams of many female spectators.
Only March 7th, unfamiliar with fighting using only Six Phases Ice, struggled when her opponent got close. Fortunately, she eventually swung a greatsword condensed from ice, smashing her opponent and achieving victory.
Dan Heng only participated to experience the competitive activities of this new world. Having experienced it, he had no intention of participating again.
Xing still had some interest, but he likely wouldn’t participate for too long. Bullying the weak was ultimately uninteresting.
Only Meng Huaifeng and March 7th truly needed to participate in Soul Fighting to increase their combat experience.
“Princess and Knight Combination, please be ready at the entrance to the left of Arena 18 within three minutes. Exceeding the time limit will result in a match forfeiture,” the large loudspeaker Soul Tool in the waiting area suddenly announced, repeating it three times.
“It’s our turn,” Meng Huaifeng stood up.
“Control your strength. Remember that you are participating in Soul Fighting to gain combat experience, not just to win,” Dan Heng advised the two like an instructor.
“Understood, we know,” March 7th gave an OK sign.
The staff member led the two to the entrance on the left of Arena 18. Their opponents should be at the other entrance; they couldn’t see them now.
On the arena stage, amidst the cheers of countless spectators and dazzling lights, the Host stepped onto the stage.
“Thank you, Spicy Combination and Scalding Combination, for the wonderful Soul Fighting match. Next up are the Three Five Combination, the rising stars of the Soul Fighting Arena who have already achieved Fourteen Consecutive Wins!” the Host announced with a modulated and passionate tone.
“Ooh! Three Five Combination, Three Five Combination~”
Cheers erupted from the audience.
“Facing the newly registered team, the Princess and Knight Combination!”
