Chapter 39: Kara: Greater Good Over Kin!
Not many cards in hand?
This probably has something to do with the big shot not wanting to see Superman die before, so he coaxed and deceived hoping Ian could solve the problem, thereby allowing Superman to avoid the fate of death?
Just as Ian thought of this.
In the surrounding environment, colors surged back like tides, sounds poured back into his eardrums, Kara “came alive”—she finally exhaled that breath that had been paused for so long.
“So~”
Kara seemed to perceive nothing, her thoughts continuing from the moment before the pause, she pondered while glancing somewhat disapprovingly at her dinner that Ian had swept clean.
“Did you awaken your abilities, and then your father told you his secret?” Kara completely didn’t remember her headache, nor did she notice that the entire world had once been paused.
All she felt in her heart was curiosity about why Ian had come to find her.
“Uh… this story is a bit long.” Ian snapped out of his reasoning about the big shot Riddler’s behavior, scratched his head, wanting to organize his language.
“Then come up and talk, I have other food at home.” Kara saw Ian looking like he hadn’t eaten enough, feeling that as an elder she should show some concern.
Hiss.
Suddenly becoming someone’s elder, this feeling was truly wondrous.
“Okay, cousin aunt, wait for me.” With that, Ian walked back into the stairwell and pulled out a plastic bag, which contained quite a few already smashed hard drives.
“What is this thing? Garbage you picked up outside?”
Kara was puzzled.
“Just a bit of wear and tear from a few hours ago.” Ian clearly still wasn’t reassured about smashing the hard drives, he spoke to Kara in a requesting tone.
“Can you breathe fire on this?”
With those two sentences.
It hard-controlled Kara again.
“Breathe fire?”
Kara initially thought it was a generation gap after leaving campus, not being able to communicate with young people now, but after thinking of the proof Ian had shown her earlier, she felt the problem might not be with her.
“I can’t breathe fire.”
Kara sighed helplessly.
“But I have a stove at home, you can borrow it to use.” She gave her suggestion, the kind of plan any normal person would think of when needing fire.
Saying that.
Kara headed first toward the elevator.
“Then you still need to practice, cousin aunt, breathing fire is way cooler than breathing water.” Ian followed closely, his successive remarks making Supergirl somewhat unconfident.
“No, I can’t breathe water either… Could Clark breathe fire and water now? How did he do it?” Kara turned back in surprise and doubt to look at the boy behind her.
No wonder she was the thick-headed Supergirl.
She had successfully been led into the ditch by Ian.
“Keep exercising? Exercise every day, fifty million push-ups, fifty million sit-ups, fifty million weighted squats, I believe cousin aunt you can definitely become Gourd Babies… able to breathe fire and water.” Ian sometimes liked to tell little lies, but he felt this was definitely a kind lie to a relative.
Believe in the Kryptonians’ “idealism” ability! Although Kara’s body didn’t have Krypton’s codex of life, it wasn’t like he wanted her to idealize to invincible levels.
Ian truly believed that one day he could see cousin aunt breathing fire and water!
At least one of them!
“Keep exercising? Would that work?” Kara still had doubts in her heart, but seeing Ian’s serious expression, she couldn’t help but think seriously about it.
“Ding~”
Kara pressed the elevator button and walked in, Ian jogged in after her. Before she could press the floor, he preemptively pressed the button for Kara’s floor.
“I just moved here! Is your father surveilling me?” Kara had a what-is-this expression, hands raised, her gaze at Ian full of surprise.
“Is it possible that the apartment administrator can check your residency information?” Ian’s emotions were very stable, he spread his hands with a slightly puzzled expression.
He felt this cousin aunt was a bit overreacting.
“Uh…”
Kara’s expression was somewhat awkward upon hearing this, “I remember this building’s management is very strict, the administrator generally won’t disclose residents’ information to inquirers.”
“Of course, unless you bribe her.” Kara glanced puzzled at Ian’s empty pockets, feeling he didn’t look like someone who had money to bribe others.
“No need for bribery, the administrator is just a young girl.” Ian’s response left Kara slightly puzzled, she frowned as if thinking about what this had to do with Ian getting her information.
“Most girls are kind, so as long as you keep smiling at them, they’ll become helpful—cousin aunt, didn’t your father ever teach you to guard against this?”
“My father did teach me how to use this trick.” Ian was smiling now, unlike his previous fake smile, this was a smile of deep agreement with his old father’s imparted life experience.
“??????”
Kara’s face was full of question marks upon hearing this.
She really wanted to know what kind of abstract education the Clark family had?
“The fare for you coming to International City to find me, you didn’t get it by asking an innocent girl like that, right?” Kara thought of Ian’s empty pockets and the distance between here and Metropolis.
Due to Ian’s explosive remarks, she couldn’t help but have deep doubts.
“Of course not! How could I do such a thing?” Ian frowned as if offended, he never thought of himself as eating such tiny bits of soft rice.
“That’s good.”
Kara breathed a sigh of relief.
Looks like no innocent girl was fooled by a scumbag.
“So, did you fly here yourself?” Kara seemed unaware of Ian’s “adopted son” situation, she started getting curious about the extent of Ian’s ability awakening.
“I came by vehicle.”
Ian shook his head, unable to flight was regrettable for him too. Of course, once he unlocked the profession brought by Homelander, perhaps this regret could be directly compensated.
“By vehicle? Hitchhiking on the roadside?”
Kara guessed, for a kid, this was very dangerous behavior, but for a kid who could take a bullet to the forehead, she felt no need to worry.
“That was my initial plan, but later I encountered a robber who tried to rob me.” Ian had just finished speaking when he heard the elevator stopping.
“Ding~”
The elevator door opened.
Kara led Ian to her residence door.
“Looks like you played hero once.”
Supergirl finally found a family vibe on Ian.
“Hero? Maybe.”
Ian’s vagueness piqued Kara’s curiosity a bit.
“You defeated the robber, saved the innocent, and the person you saved sent you to International City, right?” Kara was still worried if Ian had killed the robber.
However.
In fact, her worry was a bit unnecessary.
“No.”
Ian shook his head.
He had always adhered to the principle that an ordinary NPC shouldn’t intervene in Metropolis daily events.
So.
“I just drove away the car the robber had parked on the roadside while he was robbing.” Ian’s honest answer even carried a hint of reminiscing about the driving experience.
“?????”
Kara, who was taking out her key to open the door, was instantly stunned.
This was absolutely a development Kara had never imagined.
She prided herself on being well-traveled.
But now.
Kara felt she was still too young.
“Where’s the car?”
Kara swallowed and couldn’t help asking.
“Sold it to a tattooed black bro on the roadside.”
Ian answered.
“The money? Even if sold to gang people, you should have a few hundred US dollars, right?” Kara, who had been thinking of buying a used car lately and knew a bit about car prices, widened her eyes.
Of course.
Ian’s eyes were even wider.
“No, cousin aunt, what do you think I am? A thief? Of course I mailed the money from selling the car to that robber, the car had his identity information and home address!”
“I’m America’s law-abiding citizen!”
Ian couldn’t believe his cousin aunt saw him this way. He somewhat understood those misunderstood blond rebels in their rebellious phase now, not every dyed blond is a thug, maybe they just think it looks cool. Just like how he drove away the robber’s car, but that didn’t mean he was committing robbery!
Such perfect logic!
“…”
Kara fell into a long silence.
Moments later.
“Ian, my nephew whom I just met today…” Kara took several deep breaths, trying to force a smile that looked like an elder’s.
Then.
“Want to learn about Arkham Asylum?”
She made her heartfelt suggestion to Ian in a gentle tone.
