Chapter 18: The First Pokémon Join The Territory!
Lei Wen took two farmers to search for land suitable for farming around the territory.
Elif, on the other hand, was entrusted with the mission to entertain these three “monsters.”
Lei Wen left, and the three Snowrunt looked up at him expectantly.
Elif thought of Prince Lei Wen’s appearance and, bracing himself, greeted them, “You… you are called Snowrunt, right?”
“Ngu~!” The Snowrunt happily nodded.
The monsters actually responded to him! Even though he had seen Prince Lei Wen interact with them before, the old butler’s heart churned like a stormy sea when it was his turn.
One of the Snowrunt looked up at the human and then plucked a fruit from its body, offering it over.
“Ngu~!”
Human, would you like to try a fruit too?
M-monsters are sharing fruit with him too!
While the old butler was inwardly shocked, an unprecedented feeling also surged within him.
“Thank you,” he said, still feeling a bit resistant deep down, so he politely declined, “It’s just that I’m not hungry yet.”
The Snowrunt didn’t seem to mind; they looked around with curiosity, observing everything.
Everything here was new to them!
The commoners nearby witnessed everything, but even so, they only dared to watch from afar, not daring to approach.
Seeing this, Elif, following Prince Lei Wen’s instructions, said to the crowd:
“Everyone, don’t be afraid of these three monsters. They are different from other monsters; they won’t attack us. The reason they entered our territory today is because Prince Lei Wen gave them a few almonds yesterday, so they came to let Prince Lei Wen also taste the fruit they grew!”
The crowd was slightly taken aback by these words.
The adults hesitated, afraid to approach, as they had all personally witnessed monsters harming people.
But the children were full of curiosity for the three monsters.
They had just seen the three monsters share fruit with His Highness!
So, after the adults left, three children, around six or seven years old, could no longer contain their curiosity.
At first, they only dared to watch from a distance.
But soon, one of the boys bravely stepped forward.
The Snowrunt immediately looked over.
The boy’s heart pounded, the monsters were looking at him!
What should I do? What if he gets attacked?
When a person panics, mistakes tend to happen.
The boy, not paying attention, tripped over a stone on the ground and fell.
“Ah!” That hurt!
Suddenly, someone walked over and helped him up.
When the boy looked up, he saw the Snowrunt’s fluffy white face.
“Ngu~” the Snowrunt let out a friendly growl.
The boy froze on the spot.
The m-monsters helped him up!
The boy stood there dumbfounded, not daring to move, looking at the three monsters in front of him.
The Snowrunt also looked at him curiously.
After a long while, the boy finally couldn’t help but ask boldly:
“W-will you really not hurt me?”
Hearing this, the Snowrunt looked confused.
“Ngu?” Why would they hurt humans?
One of the Snowrunt saw the boy was hurt and plucked a fruit from its body to give to him.
The boy took a bite, and his eyes lit up: “This is delicious!”
At that moment, he no longer felt any fear towards the three monsters; instead, he happily started playing with them.
So, when Lei Wen returned from outside, this was the scene he saw:
Several children were surrounding the three Snowrunt, playing happily with them, with two brave children even climbing onto the Snowrunt.
The Snowrunt, looking delighted, carried them on their shoulders.
Lei Wen heard one child say:
“Snowrunt, the fruit on your bodies is really delicious!”
Upon hearing this compliment, the Snowrunt immediately wanted to pluck a fruit from their bodies to share with him.
But they found that all the fruit on their bodies had already been shared.
“Ngu…”
This made the Snowrunt a little sad.
However, they quickly recovered.
Because tomorrow, the fruit on their bodies would grow back!
Seeing this, Lei Wen couldn’t help but sigh with relief.
Indeed, this was a good start.
“Prince Lei Wen, how did it go?” Getting down to business, Elif stepped forward to inquire as soon as Lei Wen returned.
Lei Wen nodded and said, “We have found suitable land for farming.”
The land is located on the west side of the territory, near the riverbank. After investigation by those two experienced old farmers, they discovered that the land was very fertile and ideal for farming.
“They will go to reclaim that land this afternoon,” Lei Wen said, “We need to sow the seeds as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
As noon approached, wisps of cooking smoke rose above the territory.
People had prepared lunch.
Fragrant oatmeal, roasted fish baked golden and fragrant with a pinch of salt, paired with slightly hard black bread, and a few cups of barley beer – this was the lunch for most commoners.
As for Prince Lei Wen, his lunch was much more lavish.
Soft white bread, ham with a smoky pine flavor and a slight sweetness, rich wine with a strong grape aroma, and a creamy, delicious fish soup.
The maids brought these dishes into the tent one by one.
The children playing with the Snowrunt were also called back by their parents.
The children wanted to invite the Snowrunt to eat with them, but they were stopped by their parents, who were still somewhat uneasy.
“Ngu…”
Those people don’t seem to like us…
The three Snowrunt, realizing belatedly the rejection from those people, turned around dejectedly, preparing to quietly leave the place.
Lei Wen witnessed this scene and called out as the Snowrunt were about to leave:
“Hey, Snowrunt!”
The Snowrunt turned back and saw Lei Wen standing not far away.
Lei Wen was back! Their eyes immediately lit up.
“Would you like to come and have lunch together?” Lei Wen invited with a smile.
“Ngu!”
Hearing this, the Snowrunt immediately rushed over.
They were invited into the tent by Lei Wen and sat at the dining table to eat together.
Lei Wen and Dratini sat on the other side.
Different Pokémon have different dietary habits.
For the abundant food on the table, Dratini almost exclusively ate fish.
After looking around, the Snowrunt finally chose white bread, almonds, and figs as their lunch, which interested them.
“Try it!” Lei Wen said.
The Snowrunt took a bite of the white bread, and their eyes immediately shone with a strange light.
“Ngu!”
So delicious!
Lei Wen patiently waited for them to finish eating before speaking:
“By the way, Snowrunt, would you like to join my territory and live with us? That way, we can play together all the time.”
In fact, as Grass-type and Ice-type Pokémon, Snowrunt don’t have large appetites.
They live on vast snow mountains and survive by photosynthesis and eating snow.
This is why Lei Wen was determined to invite them to join the territory and live together.
If it were Pokémon like Snorlax, he would have refused their joining without hesitation.
Hearing Lei Wen’s words, the Snowrunt blinked.
Although they didn’t understand what a territory meant, as soon as they heard they could play with Lei Wen, they immediately agreed.
“Ngu!”
At the same time, Lei Wen also received a notification.
His citizen count increased from 79 to 82.
Following closely behind was the continuous increase in satisfaction.
+50!
+50!
+50!
In the blink of an eye, the satisfaction reached 300.
Lei Wen was slightly stunned, somewhat shocked by the speed of the satisfaction increase.
But looking at the three Snowrunt in front of him, he quickly recovered.
Unlike other humans, Snowrunt have very simple needs.
They are gentle and innocent; as long as someone is willing to play with them, they become happy.
“They are truly simple and pure Pokémon!” Lei Wen couldn’t help but mutter inwardly.
However, he felt a sense of relief in his heart.
Whether it was using Grass-type energy to help care for crops or producing fruit that could be eaten and fill stomachs.
With the addition of the Snowrunt, it would alleviate a large portion of the territory’s pressure.
Of course, in return, Lei Wen would do his utmost to meet the Snowrunt’s needs.
This included providing specialized food or playing services.
