Chapter 4: Space
Ling JinSui never imagined she would find Grandpa Ling in such a situation.
Even less did she expect Grandpa Ling’s circumstances to be more dire than hers!
And when did Grandpa Ling become a Taoist priest?
Of course, none of these questions were important right now; the most crucial thing was how to rescue Grandpa Ling from these bandits.
Looking at the three strong men holding knives, with her own small and weak frame and Grandpa Ling’s hands tied securely, a direct confrontation was out of the question.
These three had just been saying they hadn’t caught a woman, and if they discovered her, her fate would be extremely grim.
Patience, she just had to wait. Even lions doze off sometimes. When they got drowsy in the latter half of the night, she would find an opportunity to save Grandpa.
Unfortunately, while Ling JinSui was willing to wait, these three bandits didn’t give her the chance.
Hearing the old Taoist priest refuse to perform magic tricks, the bandit holding the knife pointed the tip of his blade at Grandpa Ling and stood up unsteadily.
As the bandit swayed, the knife tip flickered back and forth between Grandpa Ling’s eyes and his brow. If the bandit took one more step forward, Grandpa Ling would surely die.
Grandpa Ling’s body tensed. He wasn’t afraid of death, but he still had his young grandson and daughter-in-law waiting for him to rescue them in Yandi.
He also had his sickly granddaughter waiting for him to return home; he couldn’t just die at the hands of bandits without knowing why!
He immediately begged for mercy: “Sir, this old Taoist truly knows no magic tricks. This old Taoist has a few pieces of silver on him, which I offer to you, Sir, for drinks.”
The bandit burst into laughter. Grandpa Ling thought he had agreed and chuckled along. Suddenly, the bandit retracted the knife handle and struck Grandpa Ling’s shoulder with his elbow.
The lean old man was instantly knocked to the ground, followed by a heavy foot stomping on Grandpa Ling’s back.
With a ‘poof,’ Grandpa Ling spat out a mouthful of blood.
“Useless old Taoist, even if you die, I’ll still drink your silver!”
“Eldest Brother, this old Taoist has old arms and legs; taking him back is useless and a waste of food. It’s better to kill him and be done with it.”
The bandit spoke while pressing his foot on Grandpa Ling’s back, the tip of his knife flickering around the old man’s neck. He was just waiting for the bandit leader’s command to take Grandpa Ling’s life.
Grandpa Ling had fallen in the direction of where Ling JinSui was hiding. The old man painfully turned his head towards the Earth God, as if begging the gods for salvation.
Unexpectedly, what he saw before his eyes was his granddaughter’s small face.
He thought it was a hallucination before his death. He blinked and wiped the blood from his face onto his shoulder. This time, he saw clearly.
It was undoubtedly his granddaughter, but at this moment, his usually gentle and timid granddaughter had a fierce expression on her face.
Her bright eyes were filled with hatred, as if she wanted to rush out and chop up these bandits.
Grandpa Ling didn’t have time to ponder why his granddaughter, who was supposed to be safely at the Jiang Family’s, was here.
He kept shaking his head at her. He, who had not shed a tear even when his life was hanging by a thread, now had his cloudy old eyes overflowing with tears.
He was pleading with JinSui, begging her not to come out!
He tremblingly reached his hand under the offering table, wanting to push his granddaughter further inside. Even if he died, he would never let his granddaughter be discovered by the bandits.
When the old man’s calloused and blood-stained hand touched Ling JinSui, at that moment, Ling JinSui felt a feeling she had never experienced before.
Was this what it felt like to have a grandfather? Was this what it felt like to be protected by family?
She made up her mind. Even if the Original Owner rested in peace and passed on, she would honor this grandfather well for the Original Owner in this life.
She prepared to rush out because if she hesitated any longer, Grandpa Ling would truly die at the hands of the bandits.
She took out the powder from her waist. This was prepared to ward off snakes and insects; it couldn’t kill people, but it could temporarily blind them.
Then, kicking the bonfire, it was not impossible to rescue Grandpa under the cover of chaos.
Even if there was only a sliver of hope, she could not stand by and watch this old man die before her eyes!
She cursed the Original Owner again. You were quite good at scaring me when you were in the wilderness; why aren’t you coming out to scare the bandits now?
As if sensing her thoughts, Grandpa Ling pushed her hand harder, saying in a voice only she could hear:
“Don’t come out! Grandpa begs you, don’t come out.”
Just then, the bandit leader, who had a hairy mole on his neck, also spoke:
“Drag him out. The Earth God is watching, so don’t make a bloody mess.”
“Yes! Eldest Brother, don’t worry, I guarantee he’ll die cleanly!”
As he spoke, the bandit came to drag Grandpa Ling by the feet.
Grandpa Ling used his last breath, clasped JinSui’s hand, and still pleaded:
“Absolutely do not come out!”
At the critical moment, as their hands touched, Ling JinSui was preparing to rush out and fight the bandits.
Suddenly, she felt her palm burn like fire, and a dazzling, multicolored light flashed before her eyes. She appeared in another familiar place.
It was the laboratory that had exploded!
The laboratory didn’t look destroyed but was as it was before the explosion, with all sorts of medical equipment, medicine, as well as a pantry and a food cabinet.
The strange thing was that the laboratory was empty, and the doors and windows were locked.
Having experienced transmigration, Ling JinSui felt she could accept any strange situation.
This laboratory was her greatest reliance!
This was not the time to explore the laboratory; Grandpa Ling’s life was hanging by a thread!
Scanning her surroundings, she instantly found something useful: a bottle of thiophene, also known as tear gas.
She picked up the bottle as if it were a life-saving straw, silently praying, if there were gods or Buddhas.
As long as she could save her grandfather’s life, she would accept this transmigration that felt like a hellish start!
When she opened her eyes again, the bottle of tear gas was in her palm, and Grandpa Ling was holding her hand, saying:
“Absolutely do not come out!”
It seemed that time outside had stopped when she entered the laboratory.
Ling JinSui tightened her grip on her grandfather’s hand, darted out from under the offering table, and shouted:
“Stop!”
Without looking at Grandpa Ling’s despairing face, the bandits’ excited expressions, or the bound hostages’ looks of surprise.
“Oh my, we just said no women, and here one comes on her own…”
The bandit released Grandpa Ling and walked towards JinSui. Before he could finish speaking.
JinSui covered her mouth and nose with one hand and heavily threw the medicine bottle to the ground with the other. Instantly, a cloud-like gas emerged from the bottle’s opening.
Before anyone could react to what it was, piercing coughs could be heard.
The bandit with the hairy mole on his neck struggled to grab Grandpa Ling, convinced it was a magic trick performed by the old Taoist priest.
Meanwhile, JinSui had already picked up the knife from the ground, cut the ropes on Grandpa Ling’s wrists, and pulled him, crouching, out of the broken door.
Just as she thought they had escaped, she wanted to return to the laboratory to get the medicine for Grandpa Ling.
Suddenly, horse hooves sounded from the official road not far away, and the light of torches appeared in their sight.
Grandpa Ling reacted extremely quickly. Despite his weakened body, he pulled her towards the back of the ruined temple to lie down.
He tightly covered his mouth, preventing himself from coughing.
In a few breaths, the group of people arrived in front of the ruined temple emitting smoke. They were a group of people in official uniforms.
Grandpa Ling lowered his hand and sighed in relief, “I thought they were bandits. The constables are not to be feared; we are saved now.”
JinSui peeked out and immediately covered Grandpa Ling’s mouth again, whispering:
“We are not saved. These constables are here to arrest me.”
That’s right, among the constables were two familiar faces: the two who had caused her to lose her Big Green Donkey in town during the day.
However, the Original Owner was just a county magistrate’s daughter; was such a large force needed to pursue her?
