Chapter 175: I’ll Be With You
“Stop fighting, stop fighting! Big Brother, I was wrong!” When had that stall owner ever seen such a brutal young man? His previous arrogance was long gone, and he begged repeatedly, “Please, please let me go, ouch…”
“What did you do wrong?” Ling Hanmu pressed down harder.
“Oh, my lord, please let me go, I admit I was wrong, okay? I won’t call the police, let’s just forget about this.”
“Forget about it?”
“I promise I won’t call the police!”
“Heh heh…”
“Big Brother, I’m serious, I promise, I promise I won’t call the police, and I won’t cause you any trouble.”
“You’re ugly and you have grand ideas. Just because you don’t dare to call the police doesn’t mean this Young Master won’t take legal action against you.”
“You should know, this is my territory. Let’s both take a step back.” Hearing Ling Hanmu mention calling the police, the stall owner’s body trembled. Fear spread uncontrollably, and he forced himself to calm down and threaten Ling Hanmu.
Ling Hanmu flashed a brilliant smile: “So what? Do you think you’re the emperor of this place?”
“What do you want?” the stall owner asked through the pain.
“Are you deaf? Didn’t this Young Master already say it? Call the police.”
“You dare! I’ll make sure you don’t get out of here alive.”
“This Young Master would like to see what you can do to stop me.” Ling Hanmu looked down at him condescendingly, “Hurry up and call all your people out. This Young Master hasn’t had enough fun yet.”
Just then, someone in the crowd suddenly exclaimed, “Isn’t that Young Master Ling from Tiansheng Group? Ah, and Miss Xia Chenge! Boss, you’re finished. You’ve really stirred up a hornet’s nest this time.”
“Ah, that’s right! No wonder I thought the two of them looked familiar. It’s them!”
“Hahaha, Young Master Ling and that girl are using counterfeit money together? This is the funniest joke I’ve heard all year! Do Young Master Ling and Sister Chenge lack money? Are they short of a thousand or two?”
…
Once Ling Hanmu and Xia Chenge’s identities were recognized, the surrounding whispers immediately changed. From accusing the trio, they turned to mocking the stall owner.
The stall owner, even more terrified, stared fixedly at Ling Hanmu, his face ashen.
Although he didn’t know how famous Ling Hanmu and Xia Chenge were, the Ling family of Tiansheng Group was a name he’d heard of – the number one enterprise in Country A… He had been smooth sailing for so many years without any trouble, which had made him increasingly bold. He never expected to capsize in a ditch today!
Tiansheng Group… Even if he had the courage of the heavens, he couldn’t afford to offend them!
“Young Master Ling, I was wrong. You are magnanimous, please spare me this once. I have elders to support and children to raise, and I was forced into this, ah…”
Before the stall owner could finish his plea, Ling Hanmu kicked him away.
“What nonsense are you spouting!” Ling Hanmu said impatiently. “It’s too late to regret it now. How many out-of-town tourists have been ripped off by you over the years and dared not say a word? Now you dare to cheat my friend? It seems you’re really tired of living.”
“I was wrong, I was just blinded by greed for a moment. Young Master Ling, please spare me.” The stall owner got up and kowtowed repeatedly to Ling Hanmu.
Ling Hanmu remained unmoved.
“What happened?” Ning Xia and Meng Yufei, having received Xia Chenge’s call, also rushed over, pushing through the crowd and asking anxiously.
Xia Chenge, who had been silent, handed the still-shaken Jiang Feifei to Ning Xia. “I’ll be back in a moment.”
Seeing this, Ling Hanmu briefly explained the situation and asked Ning Xia and the others to stay and handle it, then followed Xia Chenge.
Ning Xia gently patted Jiang Feifei, looking thoughtfully in the direction Xia Chenge and Ling Hanmu had gone.
Xia Chenge concealed her presence, tailing the suspicious figure.
Earlier, while Ling Hanmu was dealing with the stall owner, she had noticed someone in the crowd acting very strangely. So she had remained silent, secretly keeping a close watch on that person’s every move.
The person walked quickly with their head down, weaving through the alleys of the town, and finally stopped in front of a guesthouse inn. They looked around cautiously before quickly entering.
Xia Chenge glanced at the guesthouse, confirmed no one was paying attention, avoided the surveillance cameras, and leaped up, landing on the roof tiles to quietly approach the room the person had entered.
“Back so soon?” another voice asked from inside the room.
“Don’t mention it. We were almost discovered by those two high school brats,” the person said, after drinking some water and catching their breath.
“How did they find out?”
“I don’t know, but tell them to be careful too. If Ling Hanmu and Xia Chenge aren’t alone, don’t make a move.”
“But other than at night, we have no opportunity to act. During the day, there are so many people at their filming site, it’s even harder. If they leave here in a couple of days, we’ll have even less of a chance.”
“I don’t understand, why do they want to capture these two? The Xia family and Ling family behind them are not to be trifled with. Why would the boss do something so reckless?”
“That’s not for us to worry about. Just complete the mission.”
“It’s one thing to offend the Xia family, but if it’s the Ling family, aren’t we really tired of living? Ling Hanmu is the only one of his generation in the Ling family.”
“Hmph, so what? Didn’t Ling Hanmu have siblings back then? But which one survived? Did the Ling family pursue it? Besides, everyone knows Ling Hanmu won’t live past twenty, what are you worried about?”
“Ling Hanmu had siblings? Big Brother, how do you know this?”
“Alright, go to sleep quickly. Don’t ask so many questions.”
“Okay!”
After that, there was only the sound of water splashing, and they spoke no more.
Xia Chenge, crouching on the roof tiles, frowned: Ling Hanmu used to have other siblings? He wasn’t an only child? Damn, this is too much information!
Could it be that his siblings were all killed by Ling Zhongwen?
Thinking of this, Xia Chenge couldn’t help but feel a chill.
For some reason, Xia Chenge felt a tightness in her chest.
Confirming that the two had turned off their lights and gone to sleep, Xia Chenge leaped down from the roof tiles and walked heavily towards the hotel.
“You scared me to death! Where did you go? I almost turned this whole town upside down!” Xia Chenge was halfway there when she was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace. Ling Hanmu’s anxious voice sounded in her ear.
Xia Chenge looked up at him steadily, seeing his eyes, still bright in the darkness, filled with worry and panic.
Xia Chenge reached out and hugged him, leaning against his chest, saying nothing.
Ling Hanmu, who had been angry and annoyed, felt his unhappiness immediately vanish.
“What’s wrong?” he softened his tone.
“Nothing,” Xia Chenge replied listlessly.
“What exactly happened? You seem very unhappy.” Ling Hanmu became anxious again.
Xia Chenge looked up and reached out to caress his face: “Xiao Mu, you carry many secrets, don’t you?”
Ling Hanmu froze for a moment.
“It’s okay, I’m with you.” Xia Chenge hugged him again.
If what those two people said was true, then the facade Ling Hanmu had maintained all these years wasn’t just to make his parents happy, but also to protect himself and his family.
Ling Zhongwen is truly not human!
He might have become a devil who recognizes no kin…
