Chapter 57: Almost Exposed
Xia Minglan informed Xu Jingyi about the situation here, intending for him to make a decision. However, after hearing it, Xu Jingyi flew into a rage: “Are you crazy? How many times have I warned you not to provoke Xia Chenge, why didn’t you listen? Do you still think Xia Chenge is the waste you can easily manipulate?”
Xia Minglan and Xu Jingyi had been married for so many years, and this was the first time Xu Jingyi had yelled at her like this, leaving her stunned.
“Every time you think you’re so clever, you mess things up! Look at how many weaknesses Xia Chenge has on you. Now you dare to incite people to cause trouble at the Xia family, are you an idiot? Are you afraid you won’t die fast enough?” Xu Jingyi’s anger was immense, and he continued to scold her.
“Look at what you’ve done to Yunyun, and you’re still so self-righteous! It’s clear that Xia Chenge is setting a trap for you, and you’re desperately jumping into it. It doesn’t matter if you die, but don’t implicate us and drag us down to hell with you.”
Xu Jingyi’s reaction made Xia Minglan feel he was both a stranger and terrifying.
All along, Xu Jingyi had doted on her, and everyone envied her for marrying a good husband.
But at this moment, she felt as if she had never truly understood Xu Jingyi.
“Where are you now? Get back here immediately and stop embarrassing yourself at the Xia family’s place. Do you think you’ll be any better off if you ruin Xia Chenge’s reputation? The whole world knows that you raised Xia Chenge!” Xu Jingyi’s anger had not subsided.
“Jingyi, you…” Xia Minglan finally came to her senses and said uneasily, “You’ve never spoken to me in this tone before.”
Hearing Xia Minglan’s words, Xu Jingyi choked, realizing that he had lost his reason due to Xia Minglan’s foolishness.
He took a deep breath, suppressed his anger, and said apologetically, “I’m sorry, Minglan. I, I was just worried you’d be schemed against by Xia Chenge, that’s why I got so agitated. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lost my temper with you. Where are you now? Stay put, and I’ll come pick you up right away.”
“I’m still at the Xia family’s,” Xia Minglan said, her expression dazed, not recovering from Xu Jingyi’s apology.
“I’m coming right over, wait for me.” Xu Jingyi immediately hung up the phone.
“What’s wrong with that foolish woman again? Making you so angry?” Luo Yushi, who was beside Xu Jingyi, immediately hugged his arm with a soft, boneless grace and asked in a sweet voice.
Xu Jingyi’s face was cold: “She knows Xia Chenge is no longer the Xia Chenge of the past, yet she still foolishly went to provoke her and ended up being retorted by Xia Chenge. It’s infuriating, being schemed against by Xia Chenge again and again.”
“Husband, you’ve really been wronged, having to play along with that old woman,” Luo Yushi leaned in, gently stroking his chest. “Are you still going to pick her up?”
Xu Jingyi grabbed her hand, his expression softening slightly. He lowered his head and kissed Luo Yushi: “Darling, don’t be angry. This is for our future. Don’t worry, once we get everything we want, I promise you won’t have to see her again.”
“You are the woman I love the most. She’s not even worthy of your toenails, no, she’s not even fit to carry your shoes.”
“Oh, you’re so good at coaxing me. Then, compared to Bei Dongni, who is better?”
Luo Yushi’s coquettish voice made Xu Jingyi’s bones go soft. He couldn’t help but push her onto the desk and kiss her fiercely. Then, panting, he bit her earlobe, his voice hoarse: “Bei Dongni is not as good as you either, my little vixen. I really want to cherish you properly right now.”
Luo Yushi hooked her arms around his waist, her eyes full of allure: “I want you to cherish me too.”
Hearing this, Xu Jingyi almost lost control and tore at her clothes.
However, remembering that he still had to pick up Xia Minglan, Xu Jingyi had to forcefully suppress his desires. Unable to find release, he felt even more annoyed with Xia Minglan.
“I’ll take care of you tonight!” Xu Jingyi could only forcefully pinch Luo Yushi’s round buttocks before reluctantly leaving the embrace of tenderness, tidying his appearance, and departing.
Luo Yushi watched Xu Jingyi leave, the allure in her eyes gradually disappearing, replaced by triumph: She would soon become a superior person. This period was just her final tolerance for Xia Minglan. Xu Jingyi was hers, and Xia Minglan was merely a stepping stone to her ascent to the peak of her life!
Xia Minglan waited for Xu Jingyi to arrive at a coffee shop near the Xia family’s residence. The thought of Xu Jingyi’s attitude just now felt like a lump in her throat.
After so many years of affection, she found it hard to accept Xu Jingyi treating her this way. A woman’s intuition told her that Xu Jingyi might have another woman outside…
“Minglan, are you alright?” Just as Xia Minglan was lost in thought, Xu Jingyi finally appeared.
Seeing his anxious and concerned face, all her thoughts vanished.
He must have been too worried about her, that’s why he got so agitated! Xia Minglan reassured herself.
“I’m fine,” Xia Minglan lowered her head. “Husband, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have made you worry. This was my fault.”
The impatience in Xu Jingyi’s eyes flashed and disappeared. He stepped forward, embraced Xia Minglan, and said gently, “It’s okay, I was just too worried about you earlier, that’s why I said such harsh things. Let’s go home first.”
Xia Minglan nodded and nestled her head on Xu Jingyi’s shoulder.
Suddenly, Xia Minglan’s expression froze: she smelled a very faint perfume.
“What’s wrong, Minglan?” Sensing Xia Minglan’s sudden stiffness, Xu Jingyi immediately stopped and asked with concern, “Are you feeling unwell? Do you want to go to the hospital?”
Xia Minglan looked at her husband, who was as considerate as ever, and her heart was in turmoil.
“Why do you smell like another woman?” she finally couldn’t help but question.
Xu Jingyi’s heart skipped a beat. He remembered that he had come in too much of a hurry and forgotten to cover it up.
“Do I?” He pretended to sniff his clothes, then put on an act of having made a mistake: “Wife, if I tell you the truth, will you not be angry?”
“Tell me!” Xia Minglan’s face was already very grim, and she was still trying hard to suppress her emotions, waiting for Xu Jingyi’s explanation.
“When I was going to a meeting just now, I bumped into a woman at the elevator entrance. I swear, I really bumped into her accidentally. I was in too much of a hurry to get to the meeting room and wasn’t looking where I was going. Wife, I know I was wrong, but please don’t be angry, okay?” Xu Jingyi pleaded sincerely.
Xia Minglan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, her mood shifting from gloomy to cheerful. She feigned anger and put on a stern face: “You were deliberately taking advantage of her, weren’t you?”
“Wife, I swear I really didn’t. Don’t you know me? My heart only has room for you; I don’t see anyone else.” Xu Jingyi held her tightly.
Xia Minglan was overjoyed: “Then I’ll forgive you this once!”
The heavy stone in Xu Jingyi’s heart was lifted.
“By the way, tell me more about what Xia Chenge did to you just now? What happened with them?” Xu Jingyi quickly changed the topic.
“That little waste said the Old Undying isn’t dead,” Xia Minglan’s face darkened. “Our plan might have been discovered by her!”
