Chapter 43: Issuing a Challenge
Three days later.
Xia Chenge welcomed the first midterm exam after her rebirth.
If Yan Sheng High School was a gathering place for academic underachievers, then Class F of the second year was the worst of the worst.
This was because since the first year of high school, Class F had consistently occupied the last few dozen positions in every exam, with no student’s grades ever breaking out of this range.
And this fact had made Class F the target of ridicule from the entire school during exams.
Before every exam, students from other classes would come to provoke them:
“Hey, Class F, how about we make a bet? If any of you breaks your record, we lose, and we’ll stop calling you the waste class!”
“Perhaps we shouldn’t trouble Class F? One should be kind.”
“I just don’t understand, we’re all human, why do people who enter Class F become so stupid? Is it because this class has Haicheng’s waste, Xia Chenge? So everyone’s IQ got infected?”
“Hahahaha…”
Those people gathered at the entrance of Class F, letting out piercing laughter.
The students of Class F were furious, their complexions turning ashen, but they lacked the confidence to retort because what was said was the fact. They could only grit their teeth and endure, redirecting their anger towards Xia Chenge.
After those people dispersed, the students of Class F unceremoniously took their anger out on Xia Chenge:
“A jinx is a jinx. Whoever gets close to you is unlucky, you’re so annoying.”
“Can you do us a favor and leave, so you don’t bring us misfortune?”
“Damn it, ever since I enrolled, I’ve been ridiculed because of you every day. This is truly this Young Master’s greatest shame.”
…
Xia Chenge remained indifferent to their accusations, sitting calmly.
“Are you not hearing us? You were so sharp-tongued when Young Master Ling was here! Now that he’s gone, you’ve become a quail?”
“Who are you trying to fool? We really hate you, just get out of this class, don’t drag us down and make us be mocked repeatedly.”
“Xia Chenge, get out of Class F!”
“Xia Chenge, get out of Class F!”
In the end, it escalated into the entire class shouting for her to leave.
Xia Chenge slowly stood up.
The angry shouts in the classroom immediately fell silent, everyone staring intently at Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge surveyed the room and said indifferently, “What if I get first place in the grade?”
The classroom fell into a moment of dead silence.
A moment later, uproarious laughter erupted.
“Did I hear that right? Xia Chenge wants to get first place in the grade?”
“I must have opened my eyes the wrong way today. Am I still dreaming?”
“The best joke of the year, hands down.”
“Xia Chenge, you are truly overestimating yourself to the extreme. People with no self-awareness are the most annoying.”
Xia Chenge said faintly, “Whether it’s a dream or not, we’ll see. No one is always the same. The reason you like being mocked is because you’ve never thought about changing.”
“This world is very fair. You will get what you work for. Blaming others blindly proves that you lack responsibility and never reflect on your own mistakes!”
“And I, starting today, will show you what change looks like.”
“I will return every single word you’ve said to you.”
“Their challenge, I accept!”
The people in Class F were so shocked by Xia Chenge’s words that they couldn’t utter a sound for a long time.
They looked at Xia Chenge in disbelief. She was still so thin and small, but at this moment, she exuded a powerful and confident aura, making her seem as dazzling as a star in the night sky.
“Class monitor, go tell them that I, Xia Chenge, accept their challenge and tell them to prepare to receive the title of the waste class.” Xia Chenge looked at the class monitor, Li Yu.
Li Yu looked at the others, unsure of what to do for a moment.
“Oh, no, it should be me issuing the challenge to them!” Xia Chenge changed her tone, causing everyone’s jaws to drop.
What the hell, is today a fantasy? Is Xia Chenge still Xia Chenge?
“Go!” Seeing Li Yu not move, Xia Chenge commanded coldly.
Li Yu’s heart trembled at her command, and she involuntarily obeyed, walking out of the classroom.
When she reached the other classes, she suddenly remembered what she was supposed to do and broke out in a cold sweat.
When the students from those classes saw her, they whistled, “What, is the Class F monitor here to surrender first? Tsk tsk tsk, how come you guys are becoming more spineless?”
Those words hit Li Yu’s face like a slap, burning with pain.
She took a deep breath and repeated Xia Chenge’s words clearly and articulately, “I am not here to surrender, but to represent Class F in challenging you. Prepare yourselves to receive the title of the waste class!”
After saying that, Li Yu left with her head held high.
After being in Yan Sheng High School for so long, Li Yu felt a sense of exhilaration for the first time.
The others stared at Li Yu’s retreating figure, dumbfounded, and some began to understand.
What did she say?
Li Yu returned to the class and walked up to Xia Chenge, bowing deeply. She became the first classmate to proactively show goodwill towards Xia Chenge: “Classmate Xia Chenge, I apologize for what I did in the past. I’m sorry! You can do it!”
After saying this, Li Yu quickly returned to her seat without daring to look at Xia Chenge.
Xia Chenge merely smiled slightly, offering no comment.
At 8:50 AM, Young Master Ling arrived fashionably late.
As soon as he saw Xia Chenge, his face lit up with a smile, and he sat next to her again.
“Go back over there.” Xia Chenge gestured towards the corner where Ling Hanmu had been sitting before.
“Why?” Ling Hanmu frowned slightly. “I don’t want to go back.”
“Today is the midterm exam. I don’t want anyone to gossip after the challenge is successful,” Xia Chenge stated clearly.
“Challenge?” Ling Hanmu was taken aback for a moment. He quickly understood and guessed what Xia Chenge meant.
Although he was rarely at school, it didn’t mean he was unaware of the school’s situation. Before every exam, Class F would become the target of ridicule from other classes, and this time would be no exception.
And she was actually challenging other classes? Ling Hanmu was surprised, but more so, he found it interesting.
He had thought Xia Chenge would remain low-key, but he had guessed wrong.
“Alright, Little Brother, good luck!” After analyzing the situation, Ling Hanmu, for once, didn’t pester Xia Chenge and cheerfully returned to his seat with a smile.
Honestly, he was really looking forward to this midterm exam!
At 9:00 AM, the invigilating teacher entered the classroom on time with the exam papers.
As usual, after distributing the papers, the invigilating teacher sat idly at the podium.
Although the students of Yan Sheng High School were unruly, they also had a sense of pride. They would rather sleep through exams and get bad grades than cheat.
But today, the invigilating teacher was very surprised. Instead of the sound of snoring, he heard the rustling of pen tips on paper.
Someone was actually taking the exam seriously?
