Chapter 37: Blacken Her to Death
“Whether it’s now or in the future, I will not go abroad.” Xia Chenge said with a determined expression, “Grandpa Wei, please don’t say these words anymore.”
Wei En looked at Xia Chenge, sighed deeply, and finally swallowed his words.
Nothing he said would matter; she would prove with her actions that Xia Chenge was no longer a pushover.
“I’m going to school, goodbye.” Xia Chenge picked up her schoolbag and bid farewell to Wei En.
“Little Miss, please go slowly. Do you really not need me to arrange a driver to take you to school?” Wei En asked.
Xia Chenge waved her hand as she walked, “No need!”
Once she reached the legal age, she would definitely be the first to get her driver’s license. How could other people driving be as fun as controlling the steering wheel herself?
Xia Chenge walked out of the Xia family’s main gate, and a group of reporters holding camera flashes swarmed her, clicking away incessantly:
“Miss Xia Chenge, for all these years you’ve been pretending to be crazy and foolish, was it all to get a diagnosis of mental illness?”
“Miss Xia Chenge, can you explain the incident at Rende Hospital where you almost choked your aunt and cousin to death?”
“Mr. Xia and Madam Xia haven’t appeared for so long; have you placed them under house arrest?”
……
Sharp questions bombarded her one after another. The reporters were frenzied and excited, with a determined attitude to unearth a major scoop.
Xia Chenge looked at their crazed faces, and her mind was suddenly flooded with horrific images of rivers of blood and corpses everywhere. Her head began to throb violently. Even with her strong willpower, she couldn’t bear the pain, clutching her head and staggering backward.
Seeing this, the reporters instantly quieted down and looked at Xia Chenge. After a moment, they became even more excited, crowding forward and firing all sorts of unpleasant questions, even asking if her original owner’s parents were related by blood.
“Scram!” Xia Chenge suddenly looked up, her eyes bloodshot as she roared. A chilling and terrifying aura emanated from her, making the reporters shiver and instinctively retreat.
Xia Chenge leaned against the wall, desperately trying to suppress the intense pain.
Seeing this, the reporters swarmed forward again, shamelessly spreading rumors:
“Are you asking if you’ve been using drugs?”
“Is it because you have no parents to indulge you?”
“Miss Xia Minglan was just trying to manage you, so you found ways to drive her away?”
……
Just then, a voice with the coolness and presence unique to a young man rang out from behind the crowd: “Are the news media now so idle that they’re chasing after a girl to interrogate her about her family matters?”
Everyone looked back and saw Ling Hanmu walking over with a cold demeanor. Although he was just a youth, he possessed the dignity of a born king, exuding an awe-inspiring presence with every move.
“Young Master Ling…” The reporters immediately recognized Ling Hanmu. “We, we just want the truth, so we wanted to interview Miss Xia Chenge.”
“Interview the truth? To gain eyeballs, you’ve pushed a girl to the brink of collapse without any bottom line. Is your professional ethics to drive people insane?” Ling Hanmu’s voice was stern, causing the reporters to tremble and their faces to turn pale.
Ling Hanmu walked over and looked at Xia Chenge’s pained expression, his heart aching as if pricked by needles. He reached out and pulled Xia Chenge into his embrace, softly comforting her, “Little Brother, don’t be afraid, no one can bully you when I’m here.”
Xia Chenge’s small face had lost all its color, and large beads of cold sweat continuously formed on her forehead. She tightly gripped Ling Hanmu’s arm. Ling Hanmu’s expression was calm, and he endured the waves of pain.
This was the first time he had seen Xia Chenge like this. Ling Hanmu’s anger erupted, “You, you have successfully angered this Young Master. This Young Master hates you media with no bottom line the most!”
As soon as he said this, the reporters felt as if they were in an ice cellar, trembling uncontrollably.
“Young Master Ling, we, we’ll leave immediately.”
“I guarantee there will be no reports about Miss Xia Chenge tomorrow.”
“I’ll delete all the photos right now.”
……
Their hearts were filled with terror, and they quickly grabbed their cameras to delete the recorded footage, wishing they could disappear from Ling Hanmu’s sight immediately.
“Too late!” Ling Hanmu’s face was as dark as water as he simply and brutally announced their fate.
Then, Ling Hanmu picked up Xia Chenge and walked into the Xia family’s residence.
All of this happened in just a few short minutes. By the time Wei En and the bodyguards rushed out upon hearing the commotion, Ling Hanmu had already reached halfway into the courtyard.
Seeing Xia Chenge in Ling Hanmu’s arms looking so pale, Wei En’s anger surged. He ordered the bodyguards to throw out the reporters one by one. Then, he quickly caught up to Ling Hanmu, instructing someone to find the family doctor.
“Grandpa Wei, I’m fine. No need to make such a fuss,” Xia Chenge said weakly to Wei En, having just recovered.
Her mind was very chaotic now. The images that flashed through her mind were fragmented, and she couldn’t recall any connection between herself and those scenes.
“But your complexion is very poor…”
“I was just startled by them. I’ll be fine after a while.”
Ling Hanmu’s lips were tightly pressed together, and he remained silent. The murderous intent in his eyes was chilling.
“Let me down,” Xia Chenge struggled to get off.
Ling Hanmu held her tighter, “Don’t move.”
Seeing this, Xia Chenge had no choice but to give up struggling.
Wei En, watching this scene, had a complex expression.
Ling Hanmu placed Xia Chenge on the sofa and then knelt down, looking at her, “Does anything feel uncomfortable?”
Xia Chenge’s heart skipped a beat at his gentleness, and she nervously avoided his gaze, “I’m fine, I’ll be better in a moment!”
The coldness in Ling Hanmu’s eyes did not recede. He spoke as if to himself, yet also as if speaking to Xia Chenge, “In this world, no one will ever make you suffer injustice again.”
Hearing this, Xia Chenge’s calm heart, like a lake into which a stone was thrown, rippled with circles of waves. However, Xia Chenge quickly suppressed these strange feelings, pretending not to hear what Ling Hanmu said.
“Rest well, I’m leaving now.” After Xia Chenge’s complexion returned to normal, Ling Hanmu patted her head and got up to say goodbye.
“Wait.” Xia Chenge called out to him, “Can I handle this matter myself?”
Ling Hanmu turned back and looked at her deeply, “Okay.”
With that, Ling Hanmu strode away.
Only then did Xia Chenge feel a sense of relief, and the invisible pressure dissipated with it.
Recalling what had just happened, Xia Chenge’s expression gradually turned cold: If they couldn’t kill her, Xia Minglan wanted to use the media to smear her to gain the support of the company’s shareholders? Was there such an easy thing in this world?
“Grandpa Wei, come here.” Xia Chenge beckoned to Wei En. When Wei En leaned closer, she said in a low voice, “Post what just happened online. Remember, take Xia Minglan’s stance and blacken me to death. Fabricate things that didn’t happen, and then secretly fan the flames!”
