Chapter 34: A Magnet for Trouble
Hearing this, Xia Chenge frowned slightly: How did this get related to Ling Hanmu?
She looked at Li Yuming, who appeared uneasy and immediately turned her head away, avoiding Meng Yufei’s gaze: “This is my business, it has nothing to do with you. We’re done here. From now on, we’re strangers.”
“If it’s because of Ling Hanmu, you probably don’t know that while we were away from Haicheng these past few days, he’s been very close to a certain girl!” Meng Yufei stared at her intently, “I’m a man, and I know very well what that kind of entanglement from Ling Hanmu means.”

“Then do you know who the girl Ling Hanmu has been so close to is?” Meng Yufei retorted.

The person being named almost fell from the tree.

However, Xia Chenge found it strange that when Meng Yufei mentioned Ling Hanmu, Li Yuming didn’t show the usual infatuation of girls. Instead, there was a hint of anger in her eyes, as if she was very upset!

“Little Miss, you’re back!” As soon as Xia Chenge entered, Wei En greeted her, “I have something to report to you. The Public Security Bureau called today.”
Xia Chenge paused upon hearing this, vaguely guessing that the call was related to Xu Hai, likely that he had been released. She still feigned surprise: “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Wei En recounted the entire incident. It turned out that her kidnapping had been officially filed, Xu Hai had confessed to his actions, and he would soon be transferred to the judicial authorities for sentencing.
Xia Chenge was genuinely surprised this time. On the day of the incident, Xu Hai had adamantly denied doing anything. Yet, after only a few days, he admitted so readily?
Xu Jingyi had been in business for so many years and had a certain network of connections in Haicheng. This matter involved his wife and daughter, and he did nothing? Xia Chenge was puzzled.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll go upstairs and take a bath first, then come down for dinner later.” Xia Chenge didn’t continue discussing the Xu Hai matter with Wei En.
“Yes, Little Miss.” Since she didn’t want to talk about it, Wei En didn’t ask further and respectfully withdrew to arrange dinner.
Xia Chenge comfortably soaked in the bathtub, covering her face with a dry towel, and recalled the day’s events.

Li Yuming was untouchable because she had too many admirers at school, and Meng Yufei was untouchable because he was Li Yuming’s boyfriend. Meng Yufei was tall, sunny, and handsome, and along with Ling Hanmu, they were both crowned Campus Heartthrobs of Yan Sheng High School.
Both of their families were well-off. Rumor had it that after their third year of senior high school, they would directly go abroad to study at university, so they wouldn’t be at school for much longer.
Xia Chenge didn’t understand why Li Yuming hadn’t denied Meng Yufei’s speculation today, and had even dragged her into it.
Meng Yufei seemed to like Li Yuming a lot. If this was the case, it was likely that Meng Yufei would also notice her because of this, which was really not good…

The person had a sinister expression and an unfamiliar face; they were not from the Xia family.
He slipped inside and locked the bathroom door from the inside, raising the knife he had hidden behind him.
He approached step by step, his gaze venomous.
Xia Chenge calmly watched him approach, showing no sign of panic at the approaching danger.
As soon as the person reached the shower curtain, he violently yanked it aside and plunged the knife fiercely into the bathtub.
Presumably thinking he had succeeded, he completely failed to notice that it was just a few folded towels, not a head.

There was no one in the bathtub. He had used too much force and, unable to stop himself, he tumbled into the bathtub.
