Chapter 69: Don’t want to date, then get married
“I don’t want to date.”
After a two-second pause, Lian Li added, “Nor do I want to be a mistress.”
She wouldn’t be a girlfriend, a mistress, or a canary.
Unexpectedly, Jin Shi Yue stated decisively, giving her no chance to escape responsibility: “Then let’s get married.”
A hint of shock colored Lian Li’s bright, dark eyes as she looked at him in disbelief.
Her heart raced, and for a moment, she didn’t know how to respond.
Just then, a phone ringing broke the awkward silence in the room.
“My mobile phone is ringing,” Lian Li said, asking Jin Shi Yue to let her go.
Jin Shi Yue leisurely moved his arm from around Lian Li’s waist and leaned back on the sofa, glancing at her.
Lian Li swiped to answer, cleared her throat, and said, “Senior Sister.”
“Lili.” Xue Shufan’s voice on the other end was hoarse, sounding like she had a headache. “Have you eaten?”
Senior Sister probably just woke up and didn’t realize she wasn’t in her own room. Lian Li breathed a sigh of relief for no reason. “Not yet. You go get ready first, and I’ll come find you to eat later.”
Xue Shufan hummed, “I partied too hard last night, I don’t even remember coming back.”
After hanging up the phone, Lian Li held her mobile phone and let out a soft sigh, tilting her head to look at Jin Shi Yue.
“Senior Sister is still waiting for me, I’m going back now.”
Jin Shi Yue eyed her. “Come here.”
Lian Li remained still. “For what.”
“For you to take advantage of me.”
He said it with a straight face, but Lian Li had no intention of engaging. She simply pretended to be deaf and politely said goodbye: “Goodbye.”
With that, she turned and left without a second’s delay, her steps noticeably faster than usual.
Stepping out of the room, Lian Li stood in the corridor, her heart pounding like a drum. She took a deep breath and exhaled heavily.
Ignoring the soreness in her limbs, Lian Li hurried back to her own room, afraid that Jin Shi Yue, with his long arms and legs, would chase after her and drag her back.
Back in her room, Lian Li went straight into the bathroom. Time was short, so she didn’t take a bath but opted for a shower.
Inside the shower, mist swirled and diffused, the frosted glass faintly reflecting her naked body.
The hot water from the showerhead cascaded down her fair, smooth skin. Lian Li was washed and enveloped by the hot water, the scent of the bath products and… the unique scent of a certain man lingering in her nostrils.
She woke up feeling dry and comfortable, with no sticky sensation. Jin Shi Yue must have cleaned her up.
Lian Li gently touched her, it was a little swollen. A blush-inducing, heart-pounding image suddenly flashed into her mind, and she tilted her head back with a sigh.
She couldn’t figure out what Jin Shi Yue meant.
He wasn’t at a disadvantage in this matter, so why was he insisting on bothering her?
She was feeling agitated.
Couldn’t an alien appear and immediately abduct Jin Shi Yue onto a spaceship and send him to outer space?
On Earth, there was no room for him and her.
Pushing open the glass door of the bathroom, Lian Li grabbed a bath towel and dried the water droplets from her hair. Just then, the doorbell rang.
Opening the door, she saw a woman in a black and white professional skirt standing outside. The woman offered a standard international smile and said to her kindly:
“Miss Lian, Mr. Jin instructed me to deliver this.”
Lian Li took the gift bag and opened it to find brand new women’s clothing inside.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Lian Li closed the door, holding the bag of clothes, and suddenly felt an urge to throw it in Jin Shi Yue’s face.
But she couldn’t.
Life is not easy, Lili sighed.
Lian Li didn’t wear the clothes Jin Shi Yue had prepared. She checked herself for the kiss marks and tooth marks he had left, and finally chose long pants and long sleeves that covered her completely, letting her hair hang loose over her shoulders.
Dong Tan Yi Hao Mountain Villa featured a luxurious restaurant, with a head chef poached from a Michelin-starred restaurant, boasting exceptional culinary skills.
Lian Li sat opposite Xue Shufan, propping her chin with one hand, her other index finger stirring the hot coffee in her cup absentmindedly.
She didn’t want to have any further dealings with the Jin Family, yet she had provoked the most dangerous person.
Couldn’t Jin Shi Yue just pack up and return to the Military Region?
“I asked Pei Qingji about it yesterday, and the marriage between the Wen Family and the Meng Family was quite complicated,” Xue Shufan suddenly said.
“How so?” Lian Li asked, gathering her thoughts.
“Their family backgrounds don’t match,” Xue Shufan said. “Meng Yi is a second-generation rich kid. Although her family is wealthy, there’s still a huge gap compared to the renowned Wen Family in Sijiucheng.”
“Then why did they agree later?”
“It’s said that the Old Master of the Wen Family came to his senses. Arranged marriages are all feudal superstitions. They studied abroad and learned about free love back then; times shouldn’t go backward. Besides, Meng Yi is an educated intellectual, not some disreputable girl who can’t be brought to the table, so they agreed,” Xue Shufan explained. “The Wen Family has always maintained a stable position within the power hierarchy. The Prosecutor’s Office emphasizes equality, justice, and openness. If marriage decisions were based on interests, it would likely invite criticism.”
Lian Li didn’t quite understand the deeper unspoken rules of the Beijing Circle, only knowing that those involved in politics were extremely sensitive.
Lian Li nodded. “Shang Lingyu mentioned before that they had broken up and then gotten back together.”
“From lovelorn individuals to a beautiful tale,” Xue Shufan mused.
She took a bite of tiramisu and looked at Lian Li. “Aren’t you moving out of your apartment? Where are you planning to move?”
“I’m going back to where it all began. After my father passed away, the house on Qing Teng Road was transferred to my name,” Lian Li replied.
“Isn’t that house very close to the school?”
“Yes. For now, I’m staying in the dormitory. Professor Lu gave me a large stack of materials, and I haven’t finished going through it yet,” Lian Li took a sip of coffee. “I’ll go back to Qing Teng Road in a few days when I have a break.”
Xue Shufan thoughtfully finished the tiramisu in front of her.
While waiting for the food, people kept coming in. They were all attendees of the party.
Zhong Yang and Pei Qingji entered, their eyes scanning the room until they spotted Lian Li and Xue Shufan at a window seat.
“Yo, isn’t this Li Mei and Xue Shufan?” Zhong Yang drawled casually. “You don’t mind if we join you, do you?”
Lian Li raised her eyelashes and glanced around, not seeing Jin Shi Yue. “We don’t mind.”
Zhong Yang, being a chatterbox, asked solicitously, “How did everyone sleep last night?”
The mountain villa was far from the city’s hustle and bustle, nestled in the mountains, surrounded by water, covered in lush forests and green grass. The air was fresh and quiet, and everyone slept well.
At the dining table, everyone chatted and laughed, their topics uninhibited.
Someone mentioned purebred dogs, and Zhong Yang began to talk animatedly. “Master Yue’s Tibetan Mastiff is a hundred percent purebred. It’s ferocious and violent, and unfriendly to anyone except Master Yue. Once, I saw it and asked him if I could pet it. Guess what he said.”
“Do you want to die?”
“Something like that,” Zhong Yang said. “Young Master gave me four words: ‘Bite and no compensation.’”
Was the God of Wealth ferocious and violent?
Lian Li thought, he’s quite obedient. More well-behaved than me.
“Master Yue.” Suddenly, someone stood up and called out.
Lian Li didn’t look up, her gaze fixed on the coffee in her cup.
Zhong Yang turned his head at the sound and waved at Jin Shi Yue. “Over here.”
A moment later, Lian Li sensed someone approaching her with leisurely steps.
His tall figure cast a deep shadow, creating a faint silhouette on the coffee. Lian Li turned her head to look.
Jin Shi Yue scrutinized her expression, a slight curve at the corner of his lips. “You don’t welcome me, do you? Junior Sister.”
