“Alright…” Lu Ziyi paused before saying again, “Then let’s… go down together.”
“Mhm,” Ye Chuxiao replied while packing her schoolbag. Smiling, she didn’t notice Lu Ziyi’s expression turn distant.
Ye Chuxiao and Lu Ziyi took the elevator down. Just as she was about to bid Lu Ziyi farewell, her mobile phone rang.
It was Lin Chusheng calling. Ye Chuxiao answered immediately, her voice clear as she called out, “Brother Chusheng, have you reached the school gate?”
“I’m sorry, Xiaoxiao!” Lin Chusheng said. “I have some important matters here and can’t have lunch with you! I’ll pick you up at your dormitory at six in the evening, okay?”
“…Oh.” Ye Chuxiao couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
Lin Chusheng continued, “Xiaoxiao, try to wear a formal dress, a white one. I don’t have time to go shopping for a dress with you either.”
“It’s okay,” Ye Chuxiao said. Although a little down, she still obediently agreed. “Then Brother Chusheng, you go ahead and be busy. I’ll prepare the dress myself.”
“I’ll give you a small gift tonight to apologize to Xiaoxiao,” Lin Chusheng coaxed. “Xiaoxiao, go have your lunch. Eat well!”

The call was from Zhang Jinxian, the previous two student union presidents. When he was president, Lu Ziyi and Lin Chusheng had just joined the student union, starting as junior members.

“Ziyi,” Zhang Jinxian said directly, “I’ve invited Mr. Tang Hong, the Chairman of Handa Group, to lunch today. When we were discussing business this morning, he heard it was my birthday, which is why he agreed to this luncheon.
“Chairman Tang is also an alumnus of our university, so he’s interested in chatting with the younger alumni. I’ve invited a few friends, and among the current students, I’ve invited you and Chusheng. Chusheng has already agreed to come, so you should come too!

I’ll be waiting for you at Yulan Pavilion in the commercial district!”
“Is that so…” Lu Ziyi turned to look in the direction Ye Chuxiao had left. The little girl was walking slowly, looking down at her toes. Lin Chusheng had stood her up, and she was feeling sad.
“I’m sorry, Senior Student Jin Xian!” Lu Ziyi said apologetically. “I have something very important here and can’t get away at noon. I might not be able to make it to the banquet!”
“Is it work-related or study-related?” Zhang Jinxian asked urgently. “Can it be postponed?”

“Alright then.” Zhang Jinxian sounded regretful.
Lu Ziyi said with guilt, “I’m truly sorry, Senior Student Jin Xian. I will definitely attend your birthday banquet tonight.”
“You must come tonight, Ziyi!”
“Okay, I definitely will!”
Lu Ziyi hung up the phone and chased after Ye Chuxiao.
