Nie Qiu smiled, “Then if there’s anything you don’t understand, call me or send me a message.”
“Okay.” Hearing this, Li Kai felt a bit dejected. Was this… the gap between them? However, Li Kai was relieved that Nie Qiu didn’t mention breaking up, and he picked up his book to read.
Nie Qiu didn’t tell anyone about being cornered by Class 5 that afternoon, nor about hitting Ye Haifei. Only when her head occasionally hurt did she feel uneasy. The classmates at school must have had a reason for not daring to provoke Ye Haifei; otherwise, those few girls wouldn’t have been so afraid of him. It could only mean that Ye Haifei was not to be trifled with, and perhaps he would come back to fight her or demand compensation. She didn’t expect that person to show up with others in just a couple of days, but they weren’t here to fight.
Nie Qiu was sitting at her seat that day, discussing a quadratic equation problem with Li Kai, Huang Yan, and Zhang Haiyang, when someone at the doorway called out that Nie Qiu had a visitor.
In the past two days, Ye Haifei had come to school with a circle of gauze wrapped around his head. The wound, which wasn’t serious, could have been treated with just a few pieces of gauze like his elder sister would use, but he made it look incredibly tragic, even using professional blood from his sister’s hospital to dye it. The girls who had caused trouble for Nie Qiu saw this and, imagining Nie Qiu beating up Ye Haifei, shivered in unison.
As Nie Qiu walked out of the classroom, the first thing she saw was a Japanese flag on Ye Haifei’s forehead. She was a bit dumbfounded. What was Ye Haifei here for? To demand medical expenses? To extort her?
Ye Haifei was leaning against the doorway of Class 10, striking a pose he thought was cool and pensive. As soon as he saw Nie Qiu arrive, his entire face lit up like a blooming flower, and he smiled, “Hi!”
Nie Qiu frowned as she looked at Ye Haifei, wondering if he had been dazed by her brick. Or perhaps, would a large group of people jump out from behind him to gang up on her?
Ye Haifei saw Nie Qiu’s wary gaze and continued to smile harmlessly, “I’m not here to fight you. I’m here to… make peace.”
“Make peace?” Nie Qiu raised an eyebrow.
Ye Haifei nodded, “Our two classes had a fight last semester. Today, I’m here on behalf of our class to make peace and apologize.”
“Where’s the sincerity?”
“Wait a moment.” Ye Haifei said, turning his head and shouting, “You guys, come over here and apologize to Nie Qiu. Be sincere and genuine, understand?”
Nie Qiu looked towards Class 5 and saw the girls who were secretly smoking in the corridor. One of them, hearing Ye Haifei’s words, choked on her cigarette and coughed incessantly. Two of the girls were already walking over with embarrassed expressions.
Ye Haifei smiled at the girls who were practically dragging their feet as they walked over, “Hurry up and apologize to Nie Qiu. I’m representing our class to make peace with Nie Qiu’s class! We’re about to graduate, so why hold onto so many grudges? If there’s a class reunion for our grade in the future, our two classes will be like brother and sister classes, understand?”
The girls looked at Nie Qiu reluctantly. One of the blonde girls frowned, “Ye Haifei, are you crazy? Our class and Class 10 are mortal enemies. We got disciplinary action last time we fought, so Class 10 should also get some disciplinary action. What are we even talking about making peace for?”
“What did you say?” Ye Haifei sneered, “So you’re not going to apologize? Then the matter of you cornering Nie Qiu the day before yesterday and demanding money doesn’t need to be punished?”
“Ye Haifei! Don’t forget you’re from Class 5!” the girl shouted, attracting the attention of many Class 10 students who were studying in the classroom. As soon as they saw those girls, Zhang Haiyang rushed out and stood beside Nie Qiu. Luo Xu and Li Kai also stepped forward without hesitation. Peng Yu Yang followed a step behind, crowding with Huang Yan and other classmates.
Ye Haifei glanced at the people standing beside Nie Qiu and smiled brightly, “Everyone, please don’t misunderstand. We’re here to make peace, to make peace.” He then looked at those girls.
Facing the aggressive Class 10 students, the girls’ momentum gradually weakened. The leader didn’t speak. A girl with black hair glanced at the blonde girl, then timidly looked at Ye Haifei before lowering her head and saying to Nie Qiu, “I’m sorry, Nie Qiu.”
Hearing the girl’s words, Class 10 erupted in laughter, with everyone loudly declaring they wouldn’t forgive them unless all five of them apologized. Nie Qiu raised an eyebrow, looking at the girl who had clearly pulled her hair. Indeed… the people from Class 5 were afraid of Ye Haifei.
“Alright, you can go now.” Ye Haifei was not entirely satisfied but no longer pressed the issue, simply letting the girls from his class leave.
The girls didn’t even glance at the Class 10 students and turned away, leaving with arrogant expressions.
Ye Haifei glanced at Li Kai and smiled at Nie Qiu, “So… Nie Qiu, does this count as sincerity?”
Nie Qiu remained noncommittal. Huang Yan squeezed out from behind, recognized Ye Haifei, and frowned. Ye Haifei was someone she knew from the same residential area. She often heard her parents mention that Ye Haifei’s elder sister had a boyfriend who was involved in organized crime. She pulled Nie Qiu aside and whispered, “Nie Qiu, don’t mess with him. I heard my parents say their family is involved in organized crime.”
Ye Haifei found Huang Yan somewhat familiar. Hearing Huang Yan’s words, he remembered that this girl seemed to be from the same residential area? Just not in the same building. He pretended not to hear Huang Yan’s words and smiled at Nie Qiu, “My name is Ye Haifei. I’m a classmate from Class 5. I usually like playing basketball and billiards. Um… my grades aren’t very good. Can you teach me?”
The class bell rang, and students from other classes who had gathered to watch gradually dispersed, preparing to return to their own classrooms. Li Kai looked at Ye Haifei’s eyes, narrowed his own, and took Nie Qiu’s hand, “Sorry, Nie Qiu is busy. But I’m free. How about I teach you after class?”
Ye Haifei didn’t even glance at Li Kai and directly said to Nie Qiu, “Last time I said I liked you, it was true. Nie Qiu, I’m single now and looking for a girlfriend. Would you be my girlfriend?”
The veins on Li Kai’s forehead throbbed. He let go of Nie Qiu’s hand, walked to the front, blocking Nie Qiu’s view, and asked with a sinister smile, “What did you say? Say it again if you dare?”
“Nie Qiu, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?” Ye Haifei repeated obediently, then provocatively raised his eyebrows at Li Kai.
He couldn’t take it anymore! Li Kai jumped up, raised his hand, and swung a punch towards Ye Haifei.
Ye Haifei grabbed Li Kai’s swinging fist and flung it aside, causing Li Kai to stumble a few steps. Nie Qiu stepped forward a few paces, blocking Ye Haifei, who was about to swing at Li Kai, and frowned, “The class bell has rung.” Meaning, the teacher was about to arrive.
